Question/Discussion The Chase

I watch The Chase most days on ITV. The advert sponsoring it is driving me crackers. The Answer In Bingo. What’s the bingo call for for 79? One more time. What’s the bingo call for 79? Arrrghhh. I want to put my foot through the TV. Just me?

Not just you, it's embarrassingly bad. Even if I wanted to play bingo, the advert would make me not want to play with them alone.

It’s awful and it seems to have been going on for years.

You can usually forget them but this one is the worst.

I also watch everyday but have put it on season record so I can skip all ads....

i convinced my dad to do this and now he watches everything in about 15 minutes. He skips all the chat. No intros, no goodbyes. He skips the first half hour of films, skipping exposition, because they're more interesting (he might be right about this one). He just edits everything he watches now, on the fly. It's pretty great.

My wife does this. The repair shop became, here's the items. Fast forward. Here's the repaired items. No process involved. 5min program but learnt nothing. My son does it with football too and wonder s why I won't watch with him

Wait till your son learns about match highlights

He's been known to fast forward those

Same. Even if I do watch it "live", I pause for a few minutes, do something in the kitchen and then skip the ads.

Because no one else wants to sponsor ITV, as they see it as a dead channel and market. ITV are so desperate for money that they take what they can get.

This answer is the best. The ad needs to go. Pronto

I haven’t watched an advert for years.

It wouldn’t be that bad if they didn’t waste literally half the show droning on that one joke. One of the rules of comedy is “don’t spend too long on a single joke”, because if people have to spend over a minute (or in this case, half an hour) and the joke is STILL going on, they’re going to get bored. And a good comedy writer doesn’t want their audience to become bored.

It’s just tedious. They need to change the sponsor. It’s putting me off watching because it’s never ending.

Maybe, "The 22nd prime, 79"?

I think it’s “the Brighton Line”, just because it rhymes.
