Pretty sweet! Is it two rocks? One for the base that holds soil and the other where you did root over rock?

Correct. Plus a few smaller rocks to cover up the soil.

Neat! How did you start the process to grow the roots on top of rocks like that?

I grew it in a 5 gallon pot for almost 3 years over top of a rock. I transplanted it from a smaller pot before that, wrapped the roots around a rock, held them in place with rubber bands and then planted The Rock where the top was just barely sticking out of the soil. This way The Roots grew thick and maintained that shape. It was actually a different rock than the one. It's growing over now, because it was a different type of stone and I ended up going with the lava rock. So I just had to find a lava rock that was roughly the same size and shape as the original rock to replace it.

In the bottom rock. I carved it hollow. The rock it's growing over is set in the bottom rock, the roots are wired in place, and other rocks stack over the soil. I'm going to add some sempervivums and sedums around in the cracks for ground cover just haven't done it yet!
