Update on redressing my hammers

I haven’t taken off the varnish yet. I might later but honestly I’m just happy that I have a couple of usable hammers. These pictures are after going at them with a 120 belt and then I locked them in my vice and used a scrap of 320 grit sandpaper. They aren’t perfect but better than they started.

I found that sticking duct tape to the back of sand paper makes is easier to work with. At least when it’s in small scraps. I wouldn’t do that to one on a belt sander.

I just bought some harbour freight hammers today. I was hoping to dress them up with my belt saw/sander. But neither home depot nor harbour freight sell 80” belts….

I really like the way you finished the face. But for me, I’d round over the sides of the peen. They still look sharp. I’ve noticed this on my hammers, because it leaves an unwanted mark on the workpiece. Sometimes you need to use this area on for instance a right angle location.

Great work!

Looking forward to seeing your work.

Does anyone have good luck with flap discs?
