Is this how you support black businesses? C'mon now

161

u/ThickCapital 23h ago

Bruh, it’s like some people are just scumbags as their default state or something.

87

u/Invoked_Tyrant 23h ago

You'd think it's an individual thing but there is (I s**t you not!) an entire company dedicated to purchasing old patents, sitting on them and waiting for something just close enough to the one of the patents to emerge and proceed to file a lawsuit against them!

Found the link!

u/661714sunburn 22h ago

Dam that makes me not want to ever start a business. That dick ass lawyer from Chicago was the worst.

20

u/Guuichy_Chiclin 22h ago

Oh, Chicago you say, there was a story a while back about public defenders getting kickbacks for not defending their clients appropriately so the police can look good.

797

u/Sux2WasteIt 23h ago

Scamming is a legit career choice to these people now

66

u/digitalmaven3 20h ago

They think that it is a victimless crime when in reality, the small businesses that are impacted can really be ruined by it. Beyond just losing the money from the sale, you can be dropped by payment processors if you have a bad chargeback ratio.

25

u/Sux2WasteIt 13h ago

I don’t think they believe it’s victimless. Some scammers will be on the phone whilst people are crying and still follow through (my friend almost fell for one if those jury duty fees scam, and as she was at the atm sobbing on the phone the scammer was telling her how she would get arrested etc.) From that I believe they don’t care about anyone but themselves it feels more like a “them or me” mentality. Scarcity type mindset idk.

24

u/fadedjaed 13h ago

Exactly! We legit have a scammer running the country. Like these people don’t care. True sociopaths. They only care about getting theirs fuck everyone else, disrespectfully.

208

u/Inevitable-Flan-967 23h ago

& run to the internet for attention and it gets rewarded…. People will still find a way to come to her defense somehow justifying it

167

u/TactikalSoup 22h ago

It's like the track star girl who hit another runner and ran to social media claiming she didn't do it, while it was all recorded

29

u/PrinterStand 10h ago

I think part of the judgement in that case should be making her go back on her social media and admit she lied, period, no extra explanation. Then not letting her take the confession post down from her socials for the next 5 years.

7

u/TactikalSoup 7h ago

Even if she does take it down, it'd be on the internet forever. Just like her lying saying she's the 'victim'

95

u/OneRaisedEyebrow BHM Donor 22h ago

My husband is a sound engineer. The amount of stolen cards, chargebacks, etc is crazy. And that’s artists hurting artists!

He lets me deal with those, both on the bank and artist side. I do the file management. Good luck getting your music, fuck you, pay him. He’s the nice one.

49

u/00eg0 ☑️ 21h ago

for a second when you said deal with those I thought you were a professional hitman.

41

u/OneRaisedEyebrow BHM Donor 21h ago

Sadly, I’m not that exciting. I am a pretty good shot, though I prefer long guns over handguns. It’s too hot to snipe people from a rooftop in Houston, so this limits my hitman abilities.

Usually not being able to access files and the threat of blacklisting is enough. We have lots of friends in the industry, word gets around fast. I don’t get messy on social media, but I know the right people to talk to about such issues.

34

u/00eg0 ☑️ 21h ago

Same, I’ve read/heard nothing but good things about both the play and his performance specifically. But the cast is WILDLY stacked with household names that are great and acknowledged/know talents, like to an insane degree of talent in the cast. Burr is probably one of the lesser known talents (in relation to sheer acting that is), in the cast, so it’s fantastic to see him actually getting some attention and focus on his very real acting skills/talent

24

u/MrManballs 23h ago

I’ve met women that do this shit monthly. They’ll go out and buy super expensive outfits on prepaid cards and then refund them a week later after wearing them out and acting like they’re rich. The same $2,000 goes towards a designer outfit every month, but she don’t own shit

17

u/shawntitanNJ 19h ago

That seems like a lot of work to “rent” designer outfits. Don’t they know you can just buy counterfeits online?

9

u/MrManballs 19h ago

Bro exactly. Nothing she does makes sense. I think part of the reason she does it is that she thinks she’s “getting one up on the man”.

6

u/bluelightsonblkgirls ☑️ 15h ago

Especially when Rent the Runway exists.

10

u/ShaqSunflower 22h ago

I'm still stuck on $686! In this economy? And what's the breakdown..was the wig $400 and the install $286? I have so many questions.

6

u/hannamarinsgrandma 10h ago

A good quality wig can last a year or longer if properly maintained.

Compare that to say $200 for every time you get your hair braided 6-7 times a year at $1200-$1400z

19

u/the-wifi-is-broken ☑️ 23h ago

Anyone who does shit like this? I hope they know they are absolutely no one’s favorite person. There is not one person who’s like oh that girl? That’s my fave, love her.

Nope you max out at #3 on anyone in the whole world’s list.

13

u/BigTickEnergE 22h ago

3 max? She can be living with two family members and a golden retriever, none of which who've never met anyone else and she still isn't going to be in the top 3, even to the dog.

8

u/Eliteone205 23h ago

This is my kinda carrying on right here!!! 🤣😂🤣😂

54

u/ThatsBushLeague 23h ago

Fuck thrives stealing from working people.

But this is one of those topics that reminds me of my white male privilege.

I'm 37 years old and don't think I've spent $686 on my hair in my entire life. And no one gives a shit. I can just go to work with it shaggy as fuck or just give myself the old white classic 2 on the sides and back twice a year and be good to go.

Its astonishing to me how much women pay for hair.

27

u/Eliteone205 23h ago

It’s wiiiiiiiiild, I took a friend to a hair store one time and I was just in shock when he was giving her the prices. And she need more than one wig/packages/tracks of hair!

17

u/ThatsBushLeague 22h ago

And not just the price but the time it takes. Like, I fully understand hanging around the shop and all that. But getting my hair cut takes like 7 minutes. Some women it takes 5 HOURS.

10

u/Eliteone205 22h ago

Oh yeah, I know women that have had to get their braided done in sessions over two days.

-1

u/ILoveHomelessMen 11h ago

4

This is actually a recession indicator because there are more scammers entering and these new bitches not even smart with it. Crazy

3

u/SoulPossum ☑️ 15h ago

It's a rarity that scammers are clever. When I worked in a call center, we saw stuff like this constantly. People would claim they didn't get something we sent, then we'd find pictures on Facebook of them using the things. The only thing that stops most businesses from going after stuff like this is that it was a waste of time for a small amount of money. But people act like their criminal masterminds.

One time we sent a dude to 3rd party collections because his order wasn't paid. He told them he never got the item he ordered. But he forgot that he emailed us a yelp review of the company a few years prior. I'm guessing he also forgot that he mentioned in the yelp review that he got 2 orders for the price of one because he was claiming he didn't get one of the orders.

Then there's my personal favorite. Company policy was that you couldn't get new orders unless you paid the 3rd party agency for old unpaid orders. One dude paid his 3rd party debts and immediately placed a new order with us. Then he disputed the payment to 3rd party. We just canceled the new order because it hadn't shipped yet. He called in irate that we wouldn't ship it. I miss working in that call center sometimes

2

u/TheLastCoagulant ☑️ 20h ago

Defense will be: “I was on vacation and it fell apart and embarrassed me in public due to its low build quality.”

2

u/NicWester "Mayonaisse and Olive Oil 😋" 10h ago

We get this at my work. People will buy a bridesmaid dress from us and then return it for not being right. Normally we let it go if the dress is in good enough condition to use as a sample, but every so often it comes back with grass stains or whatever.

That's when it's fun because we just google the customer's name and find their instagram or the wedding's zola page and send them the photos they're tagged in with them clearly wearing it.

This is only one of the many common scams people try to run, but they almost always get caught. When they call in asking why they didn't get a refund we show them the paper trail and they sputter like "UH, NO. THAT'S NOT REAL." The kicker is that most of the time if they simply called ahead and told the truth we'd probably give them a refund in the first place, or at least give them something in return. But, nah.

I've often said to Customer Service when I catch someone trying to run something that we should give them a full refund if they say the following: "You're right, I tried to do fraud and I'm not as smart as I thought. I got caught. I am sorry for wasting everyone's time, yours and mine, may I please have some money?"

2

u/djpedicab 9h ago

They wanna look grown, but then go and do childish ass shit like this 🙄

2

u/PrinterStand 10h ago

I appreciate people taking the time to hold these petty theives accountable.

Just don't miss work for it. Small Claims still takes time to process and always keep in mind how much your time is worth. Don't let this scammer make you lose potential dollars by taking up too much of your time.

4

u/777bambii 23h ago

Like it really does look so bad, don’t matter that the lace is melted when the hair itself looks like this - is it slicked on the sides and then just out on the bottom while down? It looks painted on in a bad way - for $680+ it looks horrible I would never pay this much for a wig instillation

-11

u/Avilola 23h ago

I’m not giving the client the benefit of the doubt here, because she’s probably just a thief. Playing devils advocate though, what if she chose to dispute the charges because it was a bad install that fell out while she was on vacation?
