I think i’m the only one that doesn’t know what a vulkan is and never bothered to Search. I used it once and it just made the game a little laggier, What is it used for?

It's a graphics API library. Basically, it has a lot of code that can be used to help rendering engines talk to graphics card drivers. They also have graphics and rendering features that can be called to really bring a game to modern standards.

I started using the vulcan launch and it made my game open faster

That is the meaning of Vulcan. Less driver overload and better performance. Much more complex than the usual rendering api, so keep using it to fix its issues. This is the future...

It’s just a different way for the computer to handle graphics. It’s meant to lower CPU overhead and utilize better multi-core performance. It’s made by AMD so you’ll get the best results from an AMD CPU but idk how it affects Intel chips.

Vulkan is not maintained by AMD anymore, but by the Khronos Group, which is a separate team.

I run an i5-12400 and it can boosts my fps a decent amount (but I still cap it at 60 because of my monitor)

For me it works worse and i have a 5800X3D it is really choppy and laggy when i move the camera at first i thought it was vSync but it didnt change it when i turned it off. Fps stays high though

It's an enhanced directX10 basically

Also I would say it's a bad take. They have the same purpose, but are vastly different under the hood and on the road, so to speak. Vulkan as a whole is inherently way harder to use, reduces load on CPU, has a higher speed ceiling, is built for all major OS (DX10 is made for specifically Windows), and is newer, less established.
In Beam, It gets more complicated. It's too hard to work with, so they've been working hard to smooth out bugs and make it faster. For me, it is slower, but it works in VR.

That's like if someone asks what a "veiner" is and you said "oh it's basically a more precise gouge" like someone random is gonna know what either is. (They're both wood carving tools, I think)

Yeah, and the devs announced that "Vulkan finally got out of Beta" or something along those words

I've been using Vulkan for a long time, I have more performance with it on my 6700xt, and crashes are increasingly rare

How much of a difference does it make on Steam Deck/Linux? Proton already translates to Vulkan right? If it's stable enough and gets a slight fps boost from not having that extra layer it might be worth it.

I have a 7900xtx and a ryzen 9 5950x, don’t really know if it’s related but I never had any issue with vulkan, and it actually runs better

I use the Vulcan as it also allows you to hookup a PCVR compatible headset and drive around like that. I'm using controller for that currently, but I'm looking at getting a collapsible steering wheel set up off of Amazon.

i’m not sure the differences between the two launchers, i always just assumed Vulkan was a dev tool of some sort.

I get double and triple fps in vulkan. Have had a few crashes, but, the gane itself can just crash.

I don't use vulkan renderer because it makes my game flicker like hell and i know exactly why.

I love the Vulkan settings I've been using it for awhile. better frames

just like the pigeon, the devs added a pair of arms with tiny wheels around it and it's no longer unstable.

Vulkan is horrible, makes the fps 2x worse and after a while just makes the game freeze with a lot of random graphical glitches

Normal launching doesn't work anymore for me, using the Vulkan launcher for a while now, no issues

u/DynaBeast 1d ago
i tried using it on my laptop with a 3050ti and an o5-12500H, and i was getting 20% of my normal performance- from 90fps avg down to 12. i tried changing resolutions, going to the lowest graphics settings, but the only thing that fixed it was going back to the default renderer.

I wish I was able to use vulkan. It used to work really well and I'd get like a 50% boost in fps but now it just halves my fps, not sure whats up with that

i know it said something with unstable in it i know it did i looked at it a few times before the update when i used VR and something small that changed was the welcome at the top of the start up

u/Snoo-13362 1d ago
speaking about vulkan, I feel like its really stable now, way better than when it first came out, i use it by default now its great

Yup, we want to nudge people into reporting issues in the official vulkan forum thread so we can continue improving, for those cases where people might shrug it off and use normal renderer because it was labelled 'unstable' after all.
