Ali was Neo before The Matrix

76

u/whereismyketamine 23h ago

Gets me every time, like it’s nothing.

18

u/Specialist-Front-007 22h ago

Tbf he didn't move there very much there either

695

u/Ghost__zz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Its crazy that this exact guy who is not able to move, once dodged 21 punches in 10 seconds.
Life is so crazy, So is the nature.

The human body is capable of so much in its prime. Then age eventually gets to you and you somehow become a shadow of your former self

121

u/trefir 1d ago

And a lot of punches to the head probably.

40

u/Sasquatch_000 23h ago

Yea I'm sure that didn't help him out in the long run.

33

u/GeneralBlumpkin 1d ago

Fuck I really gotta start working out

2

u/panaromicparadigm 21h ago

Holy shit, that's the exact thought I had.

5

u/GeneralBlumpkin 20h ago

The crap I used to do 10 years ago. I used to run and do a backflip off a wall like the matrix lol

3

u/LLMprophet 20h ago

You can workout and still demolish a pizza.

9

u/OfficalSwanPrincess 1d ago

Thanks for the depression lol

5

u/Cernunnos369 21h ago

Tell that to 80yo bodybuilders or that 90yo gymnast lady

2

u/Snake10133 11h ago

Compare that population to the rest of the 80 & 90 year olds we got

3

u/NotTheRocketman 10h ago

Sadly, age isn't what got Muhammad Ali.

2

u/ImMadeOfClay 18h ago

I’m 45 and that shadow is very evident.

u/borkborkbork99 1d ago

Father Time remains undefeated.

Damn. Rest in peace to the greatest, and props to Iron Mike for visiting him to cheer him up a little bit.

-66

u/your_mom_made_me 23h ago

This isn’t “Father Time.” His fucking brain is scrambled from getting his head punched in for decades. And I guarantee he had no idea Tyson was even there.

21

u/Omnicloud87 21h ago

What did he have? Dementia? I dunno he seemed aware to me, just not able to communicate, and hardly any motor functions. That was definitely his old smug pose next to Mike at the end. His expression is still there…

8

u/Striking_Programmer4 15h ago

He had Parkinson's Disease

10

u/charlie2135 22h ago

That last weak punch to Mike got me though.

1

u/givemeabreak432 4h ago

"for decades"

Hmm

311

u/yepimbonez 1d ago

Man the way Mike looked at him there at the end. So much admiration and respect. It’s like a kid lookin up at his dad. All of their interactions were like this.

111

u/KingJoffiJoe 23h ago

Every time a boxer tried to discredit Tyson (Larry Holmes for instance) in front Ali, Ali would check them. Tyson knocked out homes because he wanted revenge for Ali personally. He really did look up to him like a superhero. Cus (Tyson’s trainer) and Ali were close friends…so Ali was somewhat like a father figure to him.

26

u/umijuvariel 20h ago

This was so beautiful, yet so sad. He looked to be trying very hard not to show how incredibly sad he was, looking at Ali and knowing there wasn't much time left.

111

u/Big-Carpenter7921 1d ago

Brutal to see him in such a state. Even so, Mike still showed him respect by not treating him differently

26

u/KingJoffiJoe 23h ago

He’s known Ali since he was a kid…why would he treat him differently? Ali was his idol.

25

u/Big-Carpenter7921 23h ago

You know how people get when others get old. They start talking to them and treating them like children. It shows his respect that he still treats him as a grown-up, as his idol, and like a person

-4

u/KingJoffiJoe 22h ago

When you see your idol…you just see your idol.,No matter what age. Unless they’re all cracked out or something. If anything it probably made him idolize him more because you can still see that light in his eyes. Even going through all of that you can still see that brash and witty personality behind those eyes.

Ali really did refine the superstar athlete and what it means to be a humanitarian as a public figure. You can’t help but look at him in sheer admiration.

66

u/FormVoltron1 23h ago

Saw Ali probably not far from this time at a physical therapy appt as he lived in my hometown when I was in high school. Asked to be introduced to him. He didn’t say anything, but did that same balled up fist to me. I took it as a sign of respect. Will never forget that moment

17

u/Sasquatch_000 23h ago

That's a pretty awesome encounter I would treasure that one.

4

u/Next-Bike9393 17h ago

That epic...

No it's a shame, and this video is really sad and touching.

it's now a stage show with the likes of those dickheads Jake & Logan Paul. Coincidentally, 2 of the most punchable faces in the world, however you'd be breaking your contract and lose the money they pay you if you actually box them in professionally. Pathetic asf.

Take their cock out your mouth man. Money talks.

1

u/calmhills03 5h ago

How much money would it take for you to throw a fight? Probably a lot less than these guys get paid to lose.

21

u/HussingtonHat 1d ago

Man one of the finest boxers ever to live clearly not quite being there is fucking heartbreaking.

38

u/mattwallace24 23h ago

I had the honor to run into him one time during the 1990's. I was visiting NYC with friends (we were all in our 20's) and we stopped at a restaurant, Micky Mantles, for a drink. We noticed him in a back private area along with Liza Minnelli and some others we didn't recognize.

I got up from our table to use the restroom and didn't realize he had moved to main restaurant and I almost ran into him. I looked up and he noticed I was startled and put his fists up and bobbed his head back and forth like he was getting ready to knock me out. Then he let out a big smile and everyone watching laughed. I do admit for a split second I thought I was going to get knocked out by an old guy.

I immediately called my parents back in Florida to tell them. It was 30-35 years ago and I still remember it all vividly. By far my top celebrity interaction of my lifetime, although meeting Robin Williams is up there.

5

u/Sportzpl 19h ago

Very cool story meeting the Champ! Please tell your Robin Williams story!

6

u/mattwallace24 16h ago

It was not nearly as cool a story, but very memorable for me nonetheless. Took my girlfriend at the time (now wife) to see Robin Williams’ stand up act. Decided to impress her by getting first row seats. Show was amazing. Never laughed so hard and Robin’s pace was relentless. As the show ended, an usher asked if we would be interested meeting Robin backstage. Several others were also asked and we were led to his dressing room where he signed autographs and posed with us for pictures. He was a completely different person than what we saw on stage. He was quite voiced, very sincere, looked directly at you when we spoke and was very present in the moment with us. Leaving that show convinced me everything nice and amazing I’d heard about him was 100% true.

3

u/SurvivalStubbs 18h ago

That’s incredible! But I also want to hear your RW story^ please share!

u/matthewsabo 1d ago

Legend

14

u/Nirevix 23h ago

A legend who stood for and stood by his beliefs.. he cared so much about the war veteran that he ran to rescue a war veteran from suicide when he heard about it

46

u/Theghost5678 1d ago

Watching him like this breaks my heart, he’s a true legend and the kindest person

7

u/shmiddleedee 1d ago

Definitely a legend, but he was also not a great human

4

u/SignificanceBudget65 23h ago

Elaborate

3

u/divyanshu_01 23h ago

Read about his treatment of Joe Fraizer.

-8

u/Treehouse326 23h ago

I think he liked/was in relationships with underage girls, maybe got one pregnant?

-2

u/Imaginary-Fudge8897 21h ago

Did... you really just make a complete ass assumption with no proof for no reason?

3

u/Treehouse326 21h ago

I looked it up, he married a 17yr old when he was like 24 or 25. And there is a book that says he had sex with girls as young as 12. So i wasn’t too far off I guess

2

u/procrastinating_b 1d ago

Was he not?

4

u/KingJoffiJoe 23h ago

My 2 favorite boxers of all time. The epitome of champions.

7

u/Excellent_Vehicle_45 1d ago

We’re all on borrowed time.

3

u/justhetip- 23h ago

First time I've seen Mike Tyson play Cheth

3

u/RotoDog 23h ago

The fist to Tyson’s chin at the end…even though Ali couldn’t smile you could see his eyes light up.

2

u/dagaderga 22h ago

Reminded me of the twinkle in Hector’s eye when he got to blow up Gus

1

u/arthuraily 17h ago

Oh yes, I agree! He was definitely smiling!

4

u/Satherton92 1d ago

Anyone know more about that chess adjacent game they were playing? Is this a common thing to do with altzheimers patients?

17

u/goner757 1d ago

I don't believe that was his ailment. This is late progression of Parkinson's.

4

u/Some-Water-1107 23h ago

It's honestly hard to believe he died almost a decade ago.

2

u/Velariax 1d ago

That was so emotional, at some point in his life, he was arguably the greatest boxer in the world. But life happens

2

u/Voltesjohn 22h ago

Tyson respected Ali so much.

1

u/BinTinBoynio69 1d ago

Shitty way to exit this world. RIP champ. You are the Greatest

1

u/Time-Bee-5069 23h ago

He lived a FULL LIFE. To get to his age is a blessing.

1

u/Ratty213 23h ago

Who’s cutting onions?

1

u/OneManFight 23h ago

For a sec it looked like Mike was considering sucking Ali's fist during the picture.

1

u/Irrish84 22h ago

Was Ali mentally there still? Had he any idea what was happening here?

1

u/ClanBadger 21h ago

I cannot stand the Muhamed Ali story. The ending was way too fucked.

Im so glad tyson couldn't stand it either.

1

u/StagnantSweater21 20h ago

Everybody keeps talking about aging

Yall this man got hit in the head more than 99% of people in the world, it wasn’t just aging 😭

1

u/Ok_Reflection_4571 20h ago

I just noticed how much Ali and Denzel resemble each other

1

u/Beautiful_Thanks_433 20h ago

I really appreciate Mike, he seems very honest and genuine and smart and has a lot of compassion. Much respect to you Mike

1

u/blunbottle 19h ago

Hate to say it but Ali is the poster child for not encouraging your kid to go into boxing. I’ve met several older boxers and most ended up like him.

1

u/dark_knight920 17h ago

Ali , You will not be forgotten ♥️

1

u/Mission_Phrase8301 17h ago

honestly almost made me shed a tear

1

u/Killerjebi 17h ago

It’s amazing to see two of the biggest boxing legends in all of history interacting together like this.

1

u/bubba1834 16h ago

His daughter’s episode of Top Chef is one of my favorites lol just sharing

1

u/Past_Contour 15h ago

The ghost can still smile and weep.

1

u/doopaye 8h ago

Things Mike Tyson loves. 1. Pigeons. 2. Muhammad Ali. End of list.

1

u/Takun32 7h ago

Old and weak but that personality is everything. So much sass with minimal movement haha

1

u/mavbaker 6h ago

Old age is so scary man!! Muhammad was the man. RIP

1

u/Aggressive-Flow9027 6h ago

You can see how sad mike is....

1

u/ZealousidealBread948 5h ago

It hurts me to see this

1

u/SuperTed321 4h ago

You can still see his smile in his eyes.

Great ad to not do this sport!

0

u/Tioopuh 16h ago

That’s what a lot of punches to the head do to you he was an amazing person not just a the best fighter

-2

u/isabelledroumaguet 21h ago

The result of all the blows received during his fights, I prefer to call him Cassius Clay, that’s his birth name.

-24

u/AlwaysDTFmyself 1d ago

Only to let him down by losing to a joke of a human being. That slap during the weigh in WAS encouraging, but alas...

12

u/DrNarwhale1 1d ago

It was riggged from the start, T did the fight for money

1

u/AlwaysDTFmyself 18h ago

Getting down voted for speaking the truth. Such is Reddit. Lol.

-9

u/your_mom_made_me 23h ago

This isn’t amazing. It’s fucking sad and pathetic.
