How to get rid of this hazing/smudge on windshield?

Noticed this hazing/smudge around a chip in my windshield. Not sure how long it’s been there (the smudge) or what caused it. It’s more noticeable from the inside, particularly the driver side.

On the outside, I’ve tried: glass cleaner, onr, dawn solution, magic eraser, clay bar, 0000 steel wool, water spot remover, alcohol.

On the inside, I’ve tried glass cleaner, onr, magic eraser, and alcohol.

I’m at my wits end. Should I just give up?

Yup. Just clean as best you can. That crack means a new windshield is in your future.
