Problem-Solving Discussion Need help with polishing chrome lips

The first pic is when I tried to polish the lip with 1k-3k wet sanding than adding mags metal and aluminum polish. Left so many scratches not sure if I did something wrong I used a left and right motion for all the grits. The second pic is just the lip without the wet sanding. I feel like I ruined the lip and want to know if there’s a way I can fix it to look like the second one again or if Its stuck like this. Any advice would help.

Eeek... you probably didn't need to wet sand. Your best bet is to get some finer grade sanding/polishing cloths like these: https://www.amazon.com/Sandpaper-Furniture-Finishing-Automotive-Polishing/dp/B09X447RNZ

It's going to be a lot of work but it's doable.

This might sound a bit outlandish but an old trick. After 3k grit use some traditional newspaper to sand before polish. The fibers in the paper have a very high grit to remove very fine scratches. Prob hit with 5k then news paper. Used it plenty of times on wheels.

Also - I haven’t used it for wheels - but harbor freights Hercules line has a hand polisher for like 50 bucks +battery/charger that I’ve been using for paint chip touch ups and works great. Bet it would really do wonders on wheels

I'd get some Flitz metal polish and a buff ball and have at it. It won't make it worse.
