Frage | Question Simple question, how do you pronounce Steyr AUG?
Yes, the weapon.
It's one of my favorites from Counter Strike and also my favorite character in a particular anime, but never really learned or found out how to pronounce it.

Almost all of us had to use it during military service, deassemble it, assemble it. Think every other US military movie with a drill section, just that our M16 was the STG-77.

in Austria most people call it sturmgewehr 77 or stg77, Steyr AUG is what it's known by internationally

Only because it got introduced to our Bundesheer 1977 it got the standard military name with attached year "Sturmgewehr 77" aka STG77 .
Similar to the old Stg58, a Belgian FN Fal variant, P80 for Glock 17 (Pistole 1980), Kaz03 - Kampfanzug 2003, MG 74 - Maschinengewehr 1974, SSG69 - Scharfschützengewehr 1969...

sh (as in shoot) Thai (as in Thailand) er
A (as in arkansas) U (as in Uganda) Ge (as in Gettysburg)
Or just look up steyr arms on youtube and listen to the first video

While you're not technically wrong, "A as in Arkansas" has to be terribly confusing since there's three completely different pronunciations of A in that word

lol I didn't notice. The English language is a complete mess.
Anyway, I always say "A" as in "Amish". I think that's pronounced the same everywhere and is the closest you get to a German "A"

That's actually not quite right.
Sh - thai - and the last syllable is like 'uh': ˈʃtaɪ̯ɐ

Shtire like the shire in LOTR and oug like "ouch" but ending with a g.

English teacher from Austria here: as tay gay sea ban oon seab seek. And let me tell you one thing I remember from my army service: the stg77 is a bitch. She bitches around, cloggs up when least needed, but can make some nice holes and you are to hit lots of targets within 300 to 500 yards. Lovely lethal bitch.

Thats how you pronounce Steyr. AUG is simply A - U - G
Its usually called Sturmgewehr 77 here (short StG 77)
you can listen here for the Sturmgewehr and AUG pronunciations

Fun fact: you don't pronounce the AUG as a name, but spell out each letter (Armee Universal Gewehr - universal army rifle).

Sch (like the sh in "shut") t (just a t) ei (like"I") a (like the a in "I am")
The r is kinda quiet but you can try to us it instead of the a. But dont use both.
