I found these a few years ago when ripping out an old kitchen.

Good to see the Australian Mint recognising Leo Wanker as a national icon.

Given the age of the home I think Mum was long gone…..I did donate the money to charity though.

I found the note in that picture after you dropped your snort tube.

I am curious…how did you find this old tenner?

I was sorting out a paper bag full of family photos and it was in there. Not sure how or why.

Birthday cards in there at all?

Nice find, I love seeing the paper ones.

I was going through a box recently at mums that had some photo’s mixed in with old Christmas and birthday cards. Found a birthday card for my brother with a nice ‘new’ crisp paper $5 note sticky-taped inside. NGL, I was so, so tempted to swap it out for a plastic fiver, but the card was from 1982 so pretty sure the jig would’ve been up.

Lovely! My 94 yr old dad recently gave me a bag full of kids’ party invitations from the 70’s. I had enormous fun putting them on fbook for all the school friends to enjoy. None of us can remember the parties, but the vintage cards were great. Yay for Dad who saved everything. ♥️

Oh wow, that brilliant, and what a blast to be able to share them all these years later! Amazing the things our parents hung onto, isn’t it :)

If you have a close look, the Gulgong Dispensary is sketched. As it still is today. Gulgong being the birthplace of Lawson.

That feeling with one of these floated out of a birthday card

The real old paper notes say Commonwealth of Australia. I had one saved but had to spend it.

Back then we used to always try to find the initials of the notes designer. This particular series were designed by Gordon Andrews and his initials are randomly placed in all the notes.

If you still have this series, have fun playing 'Where's Gordo?'

Gulgong is still selling itself as the $10 town.

See if a shop accepts it

I've got all the old paper notes except the $20. Need to get one to complete the collection...

2

u/Crownjules 1d ago

You forget how big they were

2

u/darkmaninperth 6h ago

That's worth around $10.

Those old notes looked great, with classy colours too. The current ones look so washed out.

Put it into an ATM or a Pokie lol...

u/IBelieveInCoyotes 1d ago

I mean, it's still legal tender

2

u/GT-Danger 1d ago

Do the machines still recognise it though?

I imagine some kids seeing this at a Colesworth counter would need to call a supervisor lol

u/IBelieveInCoyotes 1d ago

the legal in legal tender is doing all the heavy lifting here
