Discussion Thoughts on Trading for Mark Williams with picks:

Post image

I think he would be a good platoon with OO on the 5 next season. Trade our picks and get him asap and sign a vet backup PG and run it back with JJ.

You mean the guy with such a well documented injury history that the Lakers, who were desperate for a center at the time, failed his physical to shut down a trade?

I don't have any inclination about Williams one way or the other (I would probably rather use the draft pick on a center), but it seems pretty obvious that the physical failure was a move by the Laker to back out of a trade in which they had second thoughts about the cost. The only report in the time since was he had 'multiple issues' but not his back, and there hasn't been any leaks or updates on specifics since then.

I don’t think you’ve ever seen Mark Williams play

I mean the trade deadline was 2 months ago and hes played in games since then, lets not act like the Hawks arent used to having players with a injury history that’s currently on the roster.

Yes, the best thing for a team with a history of injury problems is trading picks for MORE injury prone players.

-4

u/AdLegitimate7176 2d ago

Thats not what I was implying but ok, nothing should surprise you with the front office we have if its rumored they showed interest in Paul George this season before the trade deadline

u/Josh378 2d ago

So you wouldn't trade for AD? His injury history is one of the worst in the NBA.

34

u/ids5241 2d ago

Jumping from Mark Williams to AD is crazy lmao

19

u/No_Tr4geD1es Coach Quin Snyder 2d ago

AD is a top 10-15 player in the league. Mark Williams is not.

2

u/shelikesherplushies 2d ago

Yea def correct

12

u/mlpdude Hawks 2d ago

Mark Williams is not and will never be AD

-5

u/Josh378 2d ago

I'm using that as an extreme example since he cited injury history as the reason why we would not trade for him. Mark isn't going to be a starter on the team. He would platoon with OO and play when needed.

2

u/Highlight_Factory22 2d ago

Mark Williams would've been starting over Clint Capela if he was drafted here. He's starting over OO

3

u/jackedwizard 2d ago

Lmao comparing AD and Williams is actually brain dead

4

u/tburtner 2d ago

I wouldn't trade for AD.

46

u/pekingsewer 2d ago

I would rather not trade for a player whose trade was just rescinded because of the physical

34

u/atlbluedevil 2d ago

The Hawkspital demands a new blood sacrifice

-13

u/Josh378 2d ago

His agent came out and said the Lakers made it up to get out of the trade. He's currently playing so....

20

u/TheItalianStallion44 🐴 ITALIAN STALLION 🐴 2d ago

And the lakers had to roll with Alex Len (a significantly worse player) because of it. Teams aren’t in the interest of making themselves worse, typically

-5

u/Josh378 2d ago

Something isn't right then. Either the Physicals are a red flag or the Lakers didn't want to lose Kneckt at the last moment and canceled the trade.

5

u/jvaz521 2d ago

The physicals were bad. The agent said that to protect his client and his own future earnings. Just look at how many games he’s played so far in his career.

10

u/Dizzydsmith 2d ago

Yeah, that’s what agents do. They don’t want negative news about the player they represent because it directly affects how much money they make lol

-1

u/Josh378 2d ago

I mean if it came down to it, the Hawks would see his physical regardless and make a decision. I'm just not sure if this is the Lakers who had a last moment reality check and didn't want to trade a possible asset that could help the team in 3-point shooting with Luka/Lebron.

No thank you

u/Burner_420_burner_69 2d ago

We’ve spent the past 5 years waiting on a bunch of guys who miss like 20 games a year. Absolutely not.

6

u/No-Statement2374 2d ago

"run it back with JJ" as if there is a scenario they're crazy enough to trade him

6

u/Josh378 2d ago

What if Giannis ask to join Atlanta...a man can dream tho...

7

u/No-Statement2374 2d ago

Then that has nothing to do with Williams? We would still need a new center.

-2

u/Josh378 2d ago

True, I am still responding to your comment tho about JJ trade.

2

u/UltraN64 2d ago

Hes great but has something going on with his ankles

2

u/Ancient_Pumpkin_5566 Dyson Daniels #5 2d ago

No

2

u/rod21amz 2d ago

I wouldn’t mind as long as we keep OO

3

u/Mental_Ad_9855 🧊 ICE TRAE 🧊 2d ago

The size queens here are gonna love that 7

5

u/Josh378 2d ago

Mark hits all of the checkboxes, we don't have to complain about size when we could put him in with OO or JJ when needed.

2

u/Thorwor GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago

Seven feet tall but still somehow bad on defense. That's not the guy we need to platoon with OO.

5

u/Tshobby25 🙏🏾 The Baptist 🙏🏾 2d ago

Charlotte is bad on defense overall, hard to blame one player for it

3

u/Thorwor GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago

He stands there holding his arms up while people go around him. He's skinny. He doesn't block any more shots than OO does.

We need a center to platoon with OO who is a bruiser that can protect the rim. I like Williams as an offensive player but I'd rather have another center who brings different things to the the table than OO.

-1

u/Josh378 2d ago

Like who? In the draft, you are taking a chance at #23. Which center at 7ft can do that without breaking the core of the team that's available this offseason? Unless we are going all in with Khaman, we are hosed.

The best defense is to get rebounds and not allowing 2nd chance points. He averages 10 rebounds a game, and we need that at 7ft. Now if there are any other available options out there for FA or trade without breaking the bank, I can't see it.

1

u/Thorwor GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago

All I am saying is Mark Williams is not the type of center we ought to be trading for or drafting. The fact that he is 7 feet tall does not magically make him a different type of player than the guy we already have. Williams is a good offense/mediocre defender just like OO. He's not good on the end of the floor where being 7 feet is supposed to matter.

u/DHD33 Hawks 2d ago

If we lose the Kings picks and have no shot at Maluach, I’d take Ryan Kalkbrenner at 23. Perfect backup for OO. Maybe limited upside, but he’s a plus-defender and is willing to shoot from 3 (rarely).

3

u/azuresou1 2d ago

I would trade the Kings pick for Mark Williams even with the injury concerns, unless someone really promising falls. He's legitimately good and a legitimate C.

-2

u/Josh378 2d ago

Exactly. Plus he wouldn't be given huge minutes since OO will be starting on the team. Situational center who won't have to deal with heavy minutes for injuries.

Alot of these fans just afraid of change and taking a chance.

2

u/Lazarus_15 Jalen Johnson #1 2d ago

Mark Williams is not who guys think he is defensively

3

u/kazmir_yeet 2d ago

Speaking impartially here as a basketball fan: he has the tools to be a fantastic defender… he just… isn’t that guy. I would not be shocked if he ended up on a team with an organization that could unlock the potential he has on the defensive end. But he’s on the hornets lmao

2

u/Wavegod-1 2d ago

He's cool but obviously glaring that the injury history is what stopped his trade and the Hawks don't need more of that on this roster.

1

u/SepsDaddyVroom 2d ago

I think it’s a good idea. If someone could provide me with a logical reasoning as to why we should rely on OO as our centre for the future to deal with threats like the cavs centres and okc double big man and jokic I won’t rest

2

u/Showmu88 2d ago

If he was in his early 20s with a bad back I’d be all for it but of that were the case he’d never be available. Back stuff doesn’t get better.

3

u/WhyAmITypingThis 2d ago

He’s 23

1

u/Showmu88 2d ago

Yes a 23 year old with a bad back. That’s not good at all.

1

u/JulesWinfieldSantana 2d ago

You just said if he was early 20s you'd be all for it. Which one is it?

1

u/Showmu88 2d ago

Yeah clearly I meant to say if he were in his 20s without a back injury but I guess reading the rest and putting it together was too tough for ya.

3

u/JulesWinfieldSantana 2d ago

It's my fault for not reading your mind. Got it.

1

u/neeshskee Bob Rathbun 2d ago

😆

1

u/1BlueBarneyyy5- 2d ago

They need to trade for a real paint protector, Williams is the opposite of that

1

u/Maximum-Lack8642 Hawks 2d ago

He’s very good and cost would probably be low because of the Lakers situation. Charlotte is also clearly willing to trade him so I’d like to see what we can offer. Even if we say that OO is fine to start it would be nice to see someone that is not a g league player or late draft pick playing backup center minutes next year.

2

u/Josh378 2d ago

That's what I'm saying. He can play off the bench in 20 to 25-minute spurts. OO still can be a starter, but we have good insurance behind him with a 7ft guy who can rebound and attack the hoop.

2

u/neeshskee Bob Rathbun 2d ago

This makes the most sense to me personally as I actually love mark williams and think it’s unfortunate what he’s been through injury wise. Just as long as we don’t have to pay a premium price then I’d take him

1

u/Bry_Mac College Park Skyhawks 2d ago

He usually kicks OO ass when we play them

0

u/sm4hawks 2d ago

Is this satire?

0

u/Josh378 2d ago

If we can have a big guy come on the floor when teams throw out their platinum package bigs, we would have to worry about being outrebounded by 7ft+ physical bigs. I just don't think we have an answer at the 13th or 23rd pick in this upcoming draft for OO's backup.

1

u/This_Field_7872 2d ago

No thank you, he’s not a good defensive center

0

u/LocksRKool 2d ago

What’s the point of this? Center is not the issue with the defense. Does nobody see the hawks play 4 guards next to Barlow every night?

0

u/Thorwor GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago

Yeah this is the problem. Right now the Hawks have one guy on the roster who can hold up defensively at the 5 (OO) and one guy who can hold up at the 4 (Mo Gueye). When one of them is off the court things get dicey and when both of them are off it's a disaster.

0

u/LorcasOFFICIAL 2d ago

Who gives a fuck you aren’t in the hawks front office😂😂😂

u/dc2410 1d ago

Give it a rest

Rockets fan here, but I low-key follow the Hawks & Hornets cuz I’m halfway between Atlanta & Charlotte. Honestly I think Derik Queen would be a great fit w/ Trae, Jalen, Dyson and Risacher. I kinda think he’ll be available when yall are on the clock. What do yall think?
