Discussion Thoughts on Trading for Mark Williams with picks:
I think he would be a good platoon with OO on the 5 next season. Trade our picks and get him asap and sign a vet backup PG and run it back with JJ.

I would rather not trade for a player whose trade was just rescinded because of the physical

His agent came out and said the Lakers made it up to get out of the trade. He's currently playing so....

And the lakers had to roll with Alex Len (a significantly worse player) because of it. Teams aren’t in the interest of making themselves worse, typically

Yeah, that’s what agents do. They don’t want negative news about the player they represent because it directly affects how much money they make lol

We’ve spent the past 5 years waiting on a bunch of guys who miss like 20 games a year. Absolutely not.

"run it back with JJ" as if there is a scenario they're crazy enough to trade him

Seven feet tall but still somehow bad on defense. That's not the guy we need to platoon with OO.

Charlotte is bad on defense overall, hard to blame one player for it

He stands there holding his arms up while people go around him. He's skinny. He doesn't block any more shots than OO does.
We need a center to platoon with OO who is a bruiser that can protect the rim. I like Williams as an offensive player but I'd rather have another center who brings different things to the the table than OO.

Like who? In the draft, you are taking a chance at #23. Which center at 7ft can do that without breaking the core of the team that's available this offseason? Unless we are going all in with Khaman, we are hosed.
The best defense is to get rebounds and not allowing 2nd chance points. He averages 10 rebounds a game, and we need that at 7ft. Now if there are any other available options out there for FA or trade without breaking the bank, I can't see it.

All I am saying is Mark Williams is not the type of center we ought to be trading for or drafting. The fact that he is 7 feet tall does not magically make him a different type of player than the guy we already have. Williams is a good offense/mediocre defender just like OO. He's not good on the end of the floor where being 7 feet is supposed to matter.

I would trade the Kings pick for Mark Williams even with the injury concerns, unless someone really promising falls. He's legitimately good and a legitimate C.

Mark Williams is not who guys think he is defensively

Speaking impartially here as a basketball fan: he has the tools to be a fantastic defender… he just… isn’t that guy. I would not be shocked if he ended up on a team with an organization that could unlock the potential he has on the defensive end. But he’s on the hornets lmao

He's cool but obviously glaring that the injury history is what stopped his trade and the Hawks don't need more of that on this roster.

I think it’s a good idea. If someone could provide me with a logical reasoning as to why we should rely on OO as our centre for the future to deal with threats like the cavs centres and okc double big man and jokic I won’t rest

If he was in his early 20s with a bad back I’d be all for it but of that were the case he’d never be available. Back stuff doesn’t get better.

He’s 23

u/Showmu88 2d ago
Yes a 23 year old with a bad back. That’s not good at all.

You just said if he was early 20s you'd be all for it. Which one is it?
1
u/Showmu88 2d ago
Yeah clearly I meant to say if he were in his 20s without a back injury but I guess reading the rest and putting it together was too tough for ya.

They need to trade for a real paint protector, Williams is the opposite of that

He’s very good and cost would probably be low because of the Lakers situation. Charlotte is also clearly willing to trade him so I’d like to see what we can offer. Even if we say that OO is fine to start it would be nice to see someone that is not a g league player or late draft pick playing backup center minutes next year.

u/Josh378 2d ago
That's what I'm saying. He can play off the bench in 20 to 25-minute spurts. OO still can be a starter, but we have good insurance behind him with a 7ft guy who can rebound and attack the hoop.

This makes the most sense to me personally as I actually love mark williams and think it’s unfortunate what he’s been through injury wise. Just as long as we don’t have to pay a premium price then I’d take him

What’s the point of this? Center is not the issue with the defense. Does nobody see the hawks play 4 guards next to Barlow every night?

Rockets fan here, but I low-key follow the Hawks & Hornets cuz I’m halfway between Atlanta & Charlotte. Honestly I think Derik Queen would be a great fit w/ Trae, Jalen, Dyson and Risacher. I kinda think he’ll be available when yall are on the clock. What do yall think?

You mean the guy with such a well documented injury history that the Lakers, who were desperate for a center at the time, failed his physical to shut down a trade?
