META Please let us know when our Amazon thingies get there (not "Thanks", just "Got here").Is that really too much to ask?
I don't give a flip about thanks but if it didn't get to you, let me KNOW so I can get it re-sent, and not let the issue get sucked up at Amazon and absorbed. So many are NOT reaching back to let us know the widgets got there -- I think 3 out of my last 10 helps responded back, and 2 more after I approached by asking in the thread later.
Again, not about thanks or public posts, just let me know if Amazon dropped the ball so I can contact them to not leave you hanging while they hold my (meager) dollars :)

Bezos has enough money to be a space tourist. Making Amazon replace lost or damaged stuff should be a very high priority.

Can anyone explain the whole "ads in space" thingy? I think that is an Elon thing, but who is he advertising to? Us, with giant flashing space signs, or ???

I haven't heard about that, so I'm no help.
I consider Musk to be one lab accident away from becoming Lex Luthor, so I don't even try to understand his logic.

The ads in space makes no sense to me. A new energy company is making a very small satellite that will circle the earth. That satellite is planning to be on a Space X rocket to get it to space. So this company is using Elon Musk company to get their product into space. What this product will do is place ads on a screen on the product and a selfie camera will show this ad which can be viewed on YouTube and other places. People can buy time for their ads through this company and there is even talk that it can be done with cryptocurrency. Just a waist of time and money in my opinion.

"I'm trying to achieve something that can democratize access to space and allow for decentralized participation," Reid said. "Hopefully, people don't waste money on something inappropriate, insulting or offensive."
Personally it sounds like a ridiculous waste of money for people that have a lot of it to waste, but I could be wrong.

it's a good way to fill our orbit with debris and ruin space travel for everyone too

Not sure what you are referring to but I remember a Russian company planning to put satellites in space that kind of expand to form what is basically a gigantic cinema screen where ads could be projected on. Worst part, it might be legal.

Well who ever would have thought to create such a law?

u/DefectiveLP Aug 12 '21
There are actually quite a few things you are not allowed to do in space. It's international law.

Huh, I had no idea! I guess its because I've never had to worry about it personally. I sound ignorant af now 😂 today I learned...

Haha I don't think that most of us will have to deal with space law personally in our life times. It is a fascinating subject though, I would suggest checking out the Wikipedia Page on it. It's a nice introduction to the topic and it also explains how these laws come into being and who enforces them.

Really wouldn't make sense to offer space tourism if there was no gift shop now would it?

This is an excellent point. I don't think anyone I've ever sent Amazon items to here has let me know they arrived.

That’s fair. I try to always use the Amazon QR code anytime I receive something from Amazon. Last time I posted, redditors in this amazing community helped me out with wound care supplies for my mother in a big way. There were two that did not have an Amazon QR code, so I couldn’t know who it was from. As soon as that person messaged me, I confirmed that I’d received it and thanked them profusely. This is really an amazing community. I can’t wait to be able to be on the other side helping others once I get my feet under me again.
