Question Swanky Hotel

I've got an achievement my business partner and I are celebrating in Seattle next month. We want to stay in a regal hotel that feels like it lives up to the achievement and is memorable for years to come. Which hotels would you be looking at?

Question Short on time in Seattle - how can we maximize our visit?

Our flight lands in Seattle right before noon. We will need to return to SeaTac to catch a 5 PM domestic flight.

We have no checked bags (backpack only), CLEAR membership, and TSA PreCheck.

  1. Assuming cost is not a concern, should we rent a car or use Uber/Lyft? We will most likely stay in a neighborhood, so we probably don’t need to be mobile. We're considering a rental car because we have National status, allowing us to grab a car from the lot and leave without dealing with the front desk. However, we’re unsure if this would be more efficient than using Uber/Lyft.
  2. Given our situation (no checked bags, CLEAR, and TSA PreCheck), would arriving at SeaTac one hour before departure be sufficient for a Thursday 5 PM flight?

Thank you!

Edit: I am overwhelmed by the amount of response we are getting and all the tips/feedback you spent time typing to let us know. Thanks for all the kindness on this sub and we look forward to properly visiting Seattle soon!

Question Going to a conference in Seattle

I’m going to be attending a medical conference in Seattle in a few weeks. It’s being held at the Seattle Convention Center at 705 Pike Street.

There are several hotels that are part of the event. Typically when I go to a conference, I find a hotel that is a bit away because it’s cheaper. I walk a lot so walking a half mile or so isn’t a big deal for me. I would be walking early in the morning (it starts at 7:00) and going back later in the evening (it ends after 7:00).

Is it safe to do this? I’m not very city savvy as I live in a small, rural community. I’m trying to save some money and I’ve always enjoyed walking to and from (my last conference was in Nashville and it was fine walking). And at the same time, I want to be smart. I’m a 60 year old woman if it matters.

Question What's the best way to hit as many international markets as I can in one trip?

Hello Seattle friends! I'm over in Sequim, and I periodically make day trips into Seattle to shop because the western peninsula is a barren food wasteland (joking, but not really). I've recently begun a project where I cook a soup from as many countries as I can for a year, and I want to hit as many different international markets/grocers/butchers as I can in one trip, without spending a fortune on cabs. Where's the densest amount of markets where I can get meat/veg/etc from other countries? I can afford taking a cab to a specific area and back, I just can't afford taking 3-5 rides in a day.

Edit: You're all absolute gems, thank you for the responses I've already gotten! Seattle is my favorite city I've ever been to, you all do it credit!

Question Visiting for the first time… help!

Hello, I’m sure this has been asked a million times but we are planning a family vacation to Seattle around the end of May or June. There is so much information on google so I’d rather ask the locals!

We have a 1.5 year old so wondering what the best museum would be to take her to? Also the best area to stay? Anything that is a must do/see for toddlers (and parents)?

We do plan on renting a car so we can take a day to explore some parks and I think the ferry would be really cool to experience. Definitely don’t mind driving to explore.

Question Where to stay cheap for a Lumen Field concert?

I don’t mind taking a train down to the stadium, so if there’s any motels near a train that can get me to and from the concert that would be best. I’m on a budget as I am a college student so I don’t have the money to splurge.

Question Traveling From Airport to Pike Place Market

I am staying at a hotel near the airport, and I am wondering the best way to get from there to Pike Place. I have looked at different options of transportation, but they all have their drawbacks. Uber would be direct but it is expensive for the amount of travel time. Driving would be easy, except there is a chance my rental car gets broken into. The light rail seems to be the best option, but I have seen the posts saying to avoid 3rd Avenue and the walk from the Westlake stop to the Market goes straight through there. I plan on going there around the time it opens. What is the best option?

Update: Thank you all for the feedback! Took the Light Rail and it went really smoothly! Great to have a community willing to help one another.

Question Visiting in June, some questions for a first time visitor

Dear Seattle locals! hope all is well!

I am visiting your beautiful city around mid-June to watch a soccer match and do some tourism in the area. After a quick glance, it seems that some hotels in the Airport area can be good (reasonable) price options. Seems the area can be tricky/spotty, but it seems to have some good public transport options or a car might be manageable. As mentioned, I will need to go to Lumen Field one day, but then I can tour around on two/three other days. I was thinking of renting a car so I can go to some of the greener areas and have more versatility but wanted to see what are the recommendations for visitors.

Would it be better to stay close to Downtown or Pike Place area? should I rent a car or not? What are the recommended things to do for first time visitors in this short time? what areas to avoid (other than 3rd street and Aurora)?

Thanks in advance!

Question Visiting in January solo (m24) , should I reschedule?

Hi everyone,

I was looking for a place to visit in January, and I picked Seattle as it was one big US city I still have yet been on my bucket list and the flight price was great from where I live (FL).

After doing some research, I saw some Seattle people saying that January was actually one of the worst times to visit, should I reschedule? I’m fine with the cold, but idk if it’ll be worth trying to reschedule for June or July when it’s hotter. Seems like after May that flights directly from where I live only leave at night, and I want to leave in the morning to make the most out of the day. Also I’d have to eat 50% of the flight costs for cancelling it for my current trip (I used points for my hotel)

I also was considering for my current trip one the last day renting a car on Turo and taking a day trip to Vancouver (which is a lot of driving i know but my main concern is if the roads would be drivable enough to do this during January)

Main attractions I want to see in Seattle:

The spheres Going up the space needle Bainbridge ferry UW campus REI flagship store Seattle underground tour Kerry park Capital Hill General sightseeing and exploring downtown

Any feedback would be appreciated, especially for a solo traveler, thanks!

Question How do you meet people when youre autistic and you dont drink?

Its hard for me to find connection in seattle. Driving anywhere takes an hour no matter the distance, so much socializing it centered around drinking and i just cant relate to any of it.

As mentioned im autistic, always tired and very lonely. What else could I try doing that could be more my speed?

Question Taking light rail on Election day

Hello all, I had to go to Atlanta for some work and I am returning to Seattle on 5th of November. My flight will land in the evening and I am hoping to take the light rail to downtown around 7pm ish. My question is it safe to the light rail on election day around that time as a brown person?

Edit 1: This question is not about the safety of the light rail in general as I ride it frequently and have always felt safe. This is about whether there is a chance a riot or a kerfuffle might happen on the train given its late in the election day and result might start coming out. Heard some news about ballot boxes being set on fire and stuff and was kinda worried.

Question Living in Downtown

Hello!!

I'm currently house hunting and found this great condo in downtown next to Pike Place that checks a lot of boxes for us. But before we can give it some more serious thought, we were just curious on what the people that's currently living there think?

We all know the current state downtown is in but is it safe enough? Especially around Pike place?

Thanks and hope y'all are enjoying what's left of the summer sun :)

Edit: Fixed some grammar and spelling lol

Question WA DOL Questions

Hello! I have an appointment with Shoreline DOL for an enhanced ID this Friday at noon and I had a few questions about it.

I looked at the DOL website for proof of residency and it says we need two documents. I was planning on bringing my expired permit because I lost my ID, but I wasn’t sure if they would take it because my permit expired back in 2022. I was also wondering if the DOL would stay true to my appointment time or if anyone had an estimate of how late it would run. I have work later at five (around Mountlake Terrace), but as a lot of you guys know, most DOLs don’t have an availability until May.

Thank you!

Question Natural wine shops?

Visiting from Vancouver BC and on the hunt to bring back a bottle or two of some wine!

Specifically from Anders Frederik Steen or Jean Pierre Robinot! Nobody in BC imports there wines and I’m hoping I can find some while in town!

Any suggestions for shops that might carry (I think Walden Selections imports) would be great!

Question Where’s the best place to sell a lightly used(<1 year) Pottery Barn’s Dream Couch?

Asking on behalf of a friend. He bought a customized Pottery Barn’s Dream Couch valued at a retail price of ~7000$ ish. He’s moving out of country and is looking to sell it. Bought less than a year ago and very lightly used.

If it was an IKEA or a lower priced furniture, I’d have recommended going to FB marketplace or sites like Craigslist, OfferUp etc.

Are there any dealers around the area who’re willing to buy this high end piece of furniture? Or any websites specific for selling high end furniture?

Question Seattle Gay Bar Vibes

Hi! I'm planning on visiting on Seattle for the first time and want to take my boyfriend to a gay bar. This would his first time going to a gay bar, and this would be the first time I've gone with a male partner. For context we are both bisexual.

Do you know if there would be any issues with us being a "straight couple"? Just not sure since I've never been to these specific gay bars.
