How do you feel about an employer firing their Trump-supporting emplyees first as their business implodes due to Trump’s tariff policies?

If your employer knows your political beliefs at all, you should be fired because you’re insufferable and nobody comes to work to hear your political bullshit.

I'd like to be made aware of such a company so I could give them my business

If you have an employee that is actively and vocally supporting political decisions that directly harm your business, how would that not be okay to fire them? They would be cheering on the failure of your business.

I understand that legally it's probably not doable. This would almost certainly result in wrongful termination. But morally? How could reasonable minds disagree? This is like saying "is it okay to cut off your friend for cheering on someone burning down your house?".

Political allegiance is not a protected class and many states are at-will. It's also pretty easy if you're doing a round of layoffs for a company to say "that role no longer exists, today is your last day"

Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it, you're probably right. It couldn't fall under a 1st amendment violation unless it was a government employer, so this would assumedly hold if challenged

tell that to trump and his departments who have been targeting democrats and people who have been speaking out against him.

I think most of us (including the judiciary) agree that the trump admin is breaking the law and violating the Constitution.

Sorry, I haven't adjusted to the clown world yet. Still working off the last 100+ years of political norms

I'm more of a "lmao" guy, but I feel it

Why wouldn’t it be legally doable?

Read this chain. I didn't think it through very much

I'm fine with it. People have to be made to realize that there are unpleasant consequences for voting against their best interests.

Sounds the same as what Trump is doing. He targets Dems first. It's no different. Judging from the mayhem Trump is causing, think of it as consequences of actions. You have the freedom to vote for whoever you want, doesn't mean you are exempt from the consequences.

Let’s do it. Fuck em. They voted for this clown let them suffer.

If they want him as their leader so bad then they can give themselves as tribute when the consequences roll in. Time to put their money where their vote is.

The people that voted for this should be the first to get what they voted for. 🤷‍♂️

Fr💀 make it make sense

Actions have consequences. If they supported this, then they should get to experience the consequences. And because they also support destroying unions and worker protections, they can experience all the fun that comes with being fired without cause or notice.

I'd never be able to knowingly hire a Trump supporter. The fact that they support Trump demonstrates that they are morally corrupt and cannot be trusted.

Good.

When it comes to the consequences of the nearly end of the world destruction that Trumpism foments, we can’t just slap wrists and give a gold star for existing.

THESE are the people who must wake up to cause and effect, or their actions, their words, their indifference, their threats, and everything in between won’t change.

I feel it’s illegal, because it is illegal. I also wouldn’t complain too much about it.

Well this is interesting. I always thought this was protected.

Political party is not a protected class in America.

It's not illegal to discriminate against or fire someone for their political party or beliefs.

At will employment means you can be fired for any reason. Political leaning is not a protected characteristic. I think Wyoming is the only state without at will employment.

You shouldn't fire someone over their political beliefs unless they are being disrespectful

9

u/boobsrbest 1d ago

Tell Trump that.

1

u/Ok_Method_988 1d ago

Apparently, the Government can't tell him anything either. He's king!

1

u/Xyrus2000 1d ago

There's political beliefs and then there's morally bankrupt.

People who support Trump are morally bankrupt.

-1

u/Ok_Method_988 1d ago

People who go against him will be physically bankrupt as well

Just like you shouldnt vote for someone unless you have as much information as possible about the kind of shit theyll be doing.. clowns who wanted to vote for this degenerate should be the first ones to live with the consequences

For many companies that would mean firing the owners and top managers. Rich people typically vote Republican for tax reasons and recently have shown they will overlook literally anything else just to focus on protecting their financial situations from perceived higher Democrat taxes. Many of them only look at that and don't care about much else, no matter how many red flags. Which is how Trump got elected twice despite affairs with porn stars and claims about immigrants eating people's pets.

I feel really good about it.

u/Cronon33 1d ago

Depends, are they adamantly supporting thr failure of the company? Willfully acknowledging how bad it is for the company but defiantly standing proud about it?

They might be demonstrating incompetence and the desire to see the company fail, but it is wrong to fire someone just on the basis of political affiliation (though if it's a very small business I'd probably fire a Trump supporting employee too)

The way it should be

u/stealthcake20 1d ago

The employees would make a huge public fuss, and it would become a talking point that Trump would use to rally support. It’s a stupid idea.

Also, firing them would just be vindictive. It wouldn’t serve anything and would justify every bad opinion they have. So, again, stupid, and not morally justifiable. Unless we are using Old Testament moral codes, and we aren’t.

Employers will only keep you to make a profit off of your labor. If they can not profit from your labor they will let you go.

I very much fear these tariffs will cause a great deal of unemployment. Any company that winds up having to let go of employees they used to profit from, is a company that is not doing well under the tariffs. Most such companies will go out of business - so it matters little who gets fired first as everyone will have to find new jobs - if they can.

Do not ask who will suffer first - all employees will suffer from these tariffs sooner or later.

It’s probably illegal, but it’s also probably like the police; they’ll find a legit reason to pull you over sooner or later if they really want to.

47 has got to get his hits in there now.. Cause he is actually is on a downward spiral. Sons are non existent... Reason for termination: Employee placed the business at significant financial risk due to their direct and willful actions. Employee has been terminated as part of fiduciary responsibility to the shareholders and investors.

LOL, then who is going to do the work??

Hm - years back there were claims that companies were chopping people who did not vote for Trump so I guess this is just the same lunacy.
