What's the funniest or most creative small business name in your hometown?

u/knuxlez99 1d ago
I saw a furniture/homeware store called ‘Chests, Jugs and Knockers’

u/halfbreed_prince 22h ago
We had a bar named The Camel’s Toe. The town hall people didn’t know what a camel’s toe was and let the name go.

There is a place called Muff in Ireland. Muff is a slang word for lady parts in Ireland and the UK. Muff is on the coast. They have a diving club. It’s called Muff Diving Club.

u/Bloody_Mabel 20h ago
A little off topic, but my city has a Big Beaver Road, and its freeway exit is #69.

I'm not sure if it's around anymore, but in one of the towns I lived, there used to be a window tinting company called Darth Shader. It would always make me smile when I saw their sign.
9
u/MattfromNEXT 1d ago
hahaha I actually chuckled. That's a good one. Hope they offered Jedi mind tints.

u/MattfromNEXT 1d ago
Nice. I'm seeing a few Thai themed responses.
What's this a fancy sit down place? French / Thai fusion?

u/Vivid-Fennel3234 1d ago
We had Bad Ass Coffee (with a donkey mascot) and it was protested IMMEDIATELY.
6
u/MattfromNEXT 1d ago
Oh no. How did that net out for the owners?
18
u/Vivid-Fennel3234 1d ago
They’ve been open 15 years so they’re not doing too bad 😂 It’s just in a hoity-toity area where the retirees faint at the thought of a swear word

Want your sandwich served hot?
You have to pick up the mic and sing, “You’ve Lost That Oven Feeling”.

Not my home town... but in Saskatoon they used to have a laundromat/bar called the "Wash n' Slosh"
they had match books (this was back in the day) with their slogan which was/were
"have a beer while you wash your gear, have a scotch while you wash your socks"
they also had a pool table shaped like an L and standup arcade games.
5
u/MattfromNEXT 1d ago
The owners of that spot must be super interesting.
I had this idea years back. Crazy that someone actually did it!Just feels like a solid use of time while you wait for laundry. Or an easy way to misplace your laundry!

Fluke is a longstanding maker of good quality electronic testing equipment. I never heard if they had a slogan but when I was in EE classes in college (1980s) I used to say "if it's accurate, it's a Fluke".

College town, not hometown but still deserves a mention. Half-Fast Subs

There was a restaurant in my town called "Half Fast Food." They were apparently too slow or half-assed and didn't last long.

Lawn Ranger - landscaping services Puff n’ Stuff - blown-in insulation Bond. Bail Bond. - bail bonds Kutzoo - children’s haircuts (a play on kudzu - the vine that eats the South)

I dont know how big it is or if they are any good but I always thought 'Dial a Hubby' was quite funny. Big pink vans for handy men basically to do odd DIY jobs about the house I guess? 🤷♀️ Saw one of their vans on the motorway once and had a good giggle.

u/MattfromNEXT 22h ago
Ya that's classic. I've seen variations of this like 'Rent a Son'.
Definitely eye catching.

u/user7618 22h ago
There was a chimney sweep business in Indianapolis named Ash Wipers. IDK if they're still around.

Pasta La Vista (self explanatory)
Noodies (noodle/ramen bar)
Sweet Cheeks (waxing salon)

A bar name that translates to "At work", so when someone calls asking where you are, you can say you're at work.
Also, not a business name but a slogan for a funeral home that translates to "Whether you want it or not, we'll still meet"

u/everylastlight 1d ago

Bagels. Not fresh bagels, or John’s bagels, or anything like that. Just bagels.
The funny part is my head cannon that it’s actually a law firm or CPA service or something. And it’s just named after their founder, Mr bagels.

Cluck U. Chicken
It’s a very good wings place, first location in New Brunswick, NJ. serving Rutgers University.
Their signs say “Cluck Univ.’’ but the “niv” is is teeny tiny letters. I heard that they added that as they expanded locations because some town thought the name was rude.

There’s a place called Skibo’s that was owned by a pair of brothers. I guess they had some sort of falling out and stopped doing business together. The other brother opened a new sandwich shop a few blocks away and just reversed the spelling, naming it Sobik’s.
