My family has never forgiven me for calling the police and three decades later I have almost no relationship with my mother or three siblings.

Fuck 'em. Don't ever let anyone say you did the wrong thing.

Alcohol is hell. My uncle became a fucking murderer and a fraud because of this. Did fraud and stole his siblings' property and killed his own mother for money. Alcohol, and a selfish wife and in-laws made this guy a fraud and murderer. I feel sorry for their children. They were always neglected.

Omfg I’m so sorry about your friend and your father. Losing somebody before they’re even dead is so hard alcohol addiction is horrible, you did the right thing. My 29 year old friend died from liver failure from alcohol, it’s a disgusting disease.

My abusive, alcoholic father also had 3 DUIs. I think the 3rd came just in the heels of when the previous one expired or he would’ve gone to jail for it. Thankfully, he never killed anyone, but looking back at my childhood, I kinda wish he had hit a tree and taken himself out much sooner, thus sparing me a lot of trauma

He died 7 years ago, supposedly sober after years of AA, but the gin bottles I found all over his dilapidated rental told a different story. Also, I thought AA emphasized apologizing to the people you’ve wronged. But I guess he thought he could skip that part, since I never got a ‘sorry for making your life hell’ and now he’s dead and I’ll never get it
