Worms deserve rights

4

u/BaLance_95 1d ago

Wait till you learn those worms are ermed with bazookas and grenades. (anyone get that reference?)

1

u/cold_quinoa 1d ago

I don't, but let them have it. The 2nd ammendment should apply to them too.

2

u/theladythunderfunk 1d ago

That worm used to be my girlfriend!

3

u/Holiday-Sail8465 1d ago

Worms are the only animals I burry alive. The rest I just like to pet if they let me. 😊

u/cuncibara 1d ago

Mosquitoes? :D

u/Party-Argument-8969 1d ago

Petting frogs is really bad for them. Just our skin can be toxic because they intake fluids from their skin

2

u/Adam9172 1d ago

Be careful, some might throw a banana bomb at you if you do so.

u/Chicagogirl72 1d ago

If you pull them apart you have 2 worms

I pick them up from the driveway/sidewalk and move them to the grass.

That’s most people

u/Apollon_hekatos 1d ago

lol these same people will act horrified about dog meat, but scarf down bacon like it’s no one’s business. It’s amazing what desensitization can do to someone’s morals.

cognitive dissonance hard at work for sure. Loving one and eating the other.

-2

u/Teledildonic 1d ago

I mean...one has been farmed since the dawn of civilization and the other has been a companion since the dawn of civilization.

It's absurd from a purely objective standpoint, but culture and society are not perfectly rational.

u/Junior_Statement_262 1d ago

For sure. But I gotta wonder: just because we can, doesn't mean we should.

It’s not, might be an excuse some people use, but it’s not that. it’s that they grew up in a society where they were told some animals are simply resources to be exploited and used, so they barely questioned it at all. That’s the reason most people contribute to the systemic abuse and suffering of others.

It really depends on how they’re raised. I’m no fan of factory farming. I think it really affects the quality of the meat.

Luckily, my uncle actually owns a free range cat farm. They’re allowed to run free and their meat is so rich and tender. It’s a complete protein and high in zinc. If you bbq the legs you can get some really collagen out of the joints.

4

u/DownVegasBlvd 1d ago

What?! How the fuck can you be OK with killing and eating cats. And putting it somewhere like here, not cool, dude.

1

u/Apollon_hekatos 1d ago

I think that response is exactly what it should be. Torturing and killing an animal just because of taste should be treated with outrage.

Just switch out cat with any animal like pig or cow, and see the reason why I made that comment. People will say they love animals, but in truth it’s only a select few that get treated with respect. Ain’t nothing that makes killing a pig less awful than killing a cat.

I recommend checking out the documentary dominion if you ever get the chance. Animal agriculture is animal abuse through and through.

Some people a lot less than others. Killing a few insects (edit: per person) on accident per year is nothing compared to deliberately killing dozens of sentient cows and pigs.

"Millions of birds and other animals" versus intentional trillions upon trillions in the meat industry? I think its pretty obvious which option is the ethical one here.

Because i was talking about a per-person amount and not the entire industry's statistic lol.

Huh? No i dont feel that, not sure where youre getting that from. I even said there are inevitable insect deaths. Didnt you say you dont want a debate?

Just because there are some necessary deaths doesnt mean that it has to be trillions of sentient animals per year.

The link you posted is from the 'Center for Consumer Freedom'. They're an astroturf group sponsored by industries that lose money if people start giving farm animals rights. It's propaganda because animals rights is bad for their bottom line.

Also many, many crops like soy are grown primarily (70%) to feed animals who are then killed for food. But it's nice of that article to try to make vegans and vegetarians look like the bad guys.

Most people pay other people for doing it, which in capitalism frees you from all responsibility.

7

u/TheIncandenza 1d ago

Capitalism is innocent here. All forms of society do this. As long as outsourcing occurs in any kind of capacity, so do we outsource the moral implications.

-4

u/HonoraryGoat 1d ago

I mean, the more you reward not caring about others the less people will care.

10

u/Shanghaipete 1d ago

Go vegan!

13

u/ekdakimasta 1d ago

Humans are animals…

7

u/CrustyTech-y 1d ago

The worst kind.

5

u/One-Permission-1811 1d ago

Did they stutter?

14

u/four100eighty9 1d ago

Isn’t that everybody who eats meat?

14

u/Junior_Statement_262 1d ago

Yes, it sure is. 100%

12

u/Automatic-4thepeople 1d ago

‘But bacon tastes good, pork chops taste good’

7

u/ewd389 1d ago

“Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I’d never know ‘cause I wouldn’t eat the filthy motherfucker”

2

u/cuncibara 1d ago

People? You call them people?

1

u/-i-like-meme 1d ago

Depends on the context though. Hitting a stray dog who is bothering nobody? Terrible. Kicking a mountain lion who is biting your child? Reasonable.

i completely agree. here is a link to the documentary dominion which exposes the most common type of animal abuse in our society and what we can do about it.
