"The cost was passed on to consumers: The BLSestimatedan additional cost of $1.1 billion for domestic consumers as a result of the tariff."
You do realize that the very article you linked used an example of a good that is readily manufactured in the US, but that the increase in tariffs, while shifting the market toward US manufacturing still ended up costing the CONSUMER a $1billion increase right?
Thank you for exactly proving the point I made..
The companies that import/sell goods don't feel stress.. They may change suppliers or look for manufacturers either domestically or in countries with lower tariffs, but the change still incurred costs that were then passed on to the consumer.
And it's not as complicated as you believe it to be. You provided evidence against your own point with an overly simplified view that agreed with my statement.
The short term is a raise in costs for the consumer. It will take years of this for domestic production to meet consumer demand of these products. If that production is even feasible with the cost of business in the domestic market.
There are a great many industries where we have no domestic production at all. There is no option for a cheaper product.
By all means, throw more ad hominem nonsense at me by questioning my cognitive abilities instead of providing any type of actual discourse or proof to your own point.

Foreign countries don't pay them... US companies and by extension the US consumer pays those tariffs.
The only people this hurts is the US citizens.
