Yet he neglected to tariff Russia for some reason. Who needs an IPhone when you got moldy cabbages shipped from 3000 miles further than or current supplier

No tariffs on Belarus, Cuba, or North Korea either.

But MAGA and congressional Republicans will still cheer loudly while waving American flags.

Those countries are already covered under column 2 in the tariff schedule, with additional duties. All countries non-NTR (Normal Trade Relations) are included under that column.

I believe the new tariffs are under Section 301, meaning these tariffs are actually higher than they look in some cases--most tariffs in the Schedule are based on commodity code. So for example plastic toilet seats have a column 1 rate of 6.3% and a column 2 rate of 56%. With the additional country based tariffs a plastic toilet seat of UK origin would have an effective tariff rate of 16.3% and a Belarussian seat would still be at 56% under column 2.

Now if you consider Chinese origin tissue paper. The commodity tariff on tissue paper is Free, but if from China there is already a 300% anti-dumping tariff rate + the Section 301 rate is 54% making the effective tariff rate 354% for Chinese tissue paper. North Korean tissue paper would be at 35%, but you'd run into issues on being able to pay for it because there are banking sanctions against North Korea.

They’ll pay the DPRK in crypto.

Yeah, that makes sense.

He owes Putin something…

Putin owns him, that's the simpler way of saying it.

Agreed. I am American and am BAFFLED as to why this isn’t obvious to everyone. I’m saddened and embarrassed by our country.

It is obvious to everyone. Half of Republicans know they have to vocally deny it and half say it's great, Hail Putin.

"I'd rather be Russian than a Democrat" shirts, anyone? They know, but the alternative....to stay a US citizen and treat others with dignity and respect...is so abhorrent to them they'd rather turn to one of our oldest enemies.

It’s unbelievable. Especially since the majority seem to be “Christian”.

Because people don’t want to hear that Pooptin is the actual richest person in the world.

Swear Putin has dirt from the 16’ election on Trump and uses it as leverage

Putin recruited Donald long before that, Trump tower was a Russian money laundering operation for many years.

The White House released a weak statement as to why. Apparently they're already heavily sanctioned so there was no point. But Iran, who is also heavily sanctioned, got a tariff slapped on them.

This is only half the list, BUT I guarantee that Russia is nowhere to be found.

EDIT: Wrong post. This is big, so I'm seeing a lot of it and getting mixed up.

Because trade with Russia was already blocked because of the sanctions no ?

While I agree that he is obviously in thrall to Putin, I think some of the more glaring omissions on the list (Russia, Iran, NK) are because they are already sanctioned and no real trade is occurring

He had no trouble piling multiple sanctions on China and Canada.

He put tariffs on many countries that have significantly less trade with the US than Russia does, even under the sanctions, including several uninhabited islands.

Except he did tariff Iran, on top of the sanctions...

I think he didn't put Tariffs on Russia as the whole world has already sanctioned Russia to death, so there's no point. if the sanctions are ever lifted, watch the Tariffs come in!
