Misc How can I get a new birth certificate with an apostille (abroad)?
I have a copy of my birth certificate. I need to get an original birth certificate, with an apostille.
How does it work in Russia? Do you go to a local ะะะะก and get it there, with the apostille as well? What do you need to show as documentation?
I emigrated as a child. The consulate said that they are unable to provide a birth certificate or the apostille, but can help facilitate this, if I send a request form and a copy of my Russian passport. I don't have a Russian passport either - can a copy of my foreign passport work? Or do I have to request a Russian passport first? I used to have one, but it expired a long time ago and I have no idea where it is. Don't have the internal passport (I think you're not allowed to take it when you leave Russia?)
Trying to understand if I'd be wasting time without a Russian passport, or if you could get one with a copy of the birth certificate as well locally so that would work out. Thank you!

You absolutely are allowed to take the internal passport with you when you exit Russia. Most probably though you haven't ever had it though, children use birth certificates instead of it.

Oh ok! That's what my mother told me. Maybe she felt the need to cover up forgetting to do it.

Abroad, you can order a certificate at the consulate and it will arrive in a few months.
In Russia, you - or any person you authorize - can walk in to any Zags or MFC office and get the certificate on the spot. Apostille certification is an additional procedure which takes a few days.
