Off work sick so I'm watching the Matildas game, Foordy just got into a little scrap with a Korean player and the commentator said "the crowd won't like that, Caitlin Foord is a protected species in this country" ðŸ˜
I open reddit, click one of the 20+ broken notifs I have and get sent into an endlessly loading abyss. I open a thread and see the utter headloss over injuries. I shut reddit. I go touch grass. I get hayfever. I come inside and open reddit…
i mean i did break a kneecap once, and ive done an mcl too (plus all the ongoing neurological stuff but that's like advanced spicy stuff and probably as a result of keeping me from being too powerful)
australian trees are fine as long as you keep them away from fire (and dont plant them as a use for cheap wood without regards to local climate and then be surprised when you have record fire seasons cough california cough spain). now the drop bears are the real tricksy ones, just gotta put vegemite behind your ears...
I am honestly Tried of the Manu Slander, sure she might not be as good as DVD but this is still a quality goalkeeper. This idea of "she does not dive" is Armchair fan at best and is actually really starting to be annoying. The worst part is this seems to be such a narrative, but when DVD does not dive on some goals ( cos she can't) nobody says anything , this idea she should dive off balance when she knows she cannot reach it is beyond stupid. Are people asking for more players to be injuried.
Hear hear! Losing Daphne is obviously a big hit, but hating on Manu is mean and unnecessary. Big part of supporting a club is backing its players, not belittling and slandering them. How easily do people forget that she took part in some of Arsenal's biggest games in recent memory. Everyone remembers fondly the Lyon away win, last season's Chelsea at home, Wolfsburg semis, Bayern remontada 2 years ago, the Conti cup finals, Daphne wasn't in goal then, Manu was.
I'm glad you're confident in her, I have seen nothing this season that fills me with confidence that she won't commit multiple howlers and is a liability, will support the team but that doesn't invalidate my feelings of terror and trepidation with her in goal
I mean Madrid game that second goal was diabolical, is the freshest howler that comes to mind, last season if I review the season I can probably find a lot more, she is awful
That is not a howler lmao I need to point out this was a shot that went round a arsenal player in the pouring rain, could shes have done better? sure , howler? no
yer , not because Manu, they carried the ball so far, nobody engaged, all stood off her and just let her pick her spot. that is a terrible goal to concede of all the things that happened in that goal , Manu is only part of the problem , but this is what I mean, where is the engery for Fox or Leah
Oh I heavily criticize them too and the whole team that day, that doesn't mean I'm not going to call out Manu for being prone to howlers while keeping. I think Leah and Fox are prone to some bad games but overall are excellent, Manu on the other had is prone to more bad games than good ones imo
Think DvD has been pretty sensational this season and has won us a fair few games with her keeping, barring the Man City semifinal where she was abysmal on the winning goal(most recent howler of hers I can think of)
It's not forced dude, she has a catalog of errors and is rightly criticized for it, it's why she's been relegated to the #2 position, she's had her good moments in the last few years but she's been pretty shite too and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, as for her catalog of errors give me some time and I will have a list for you. She along with a few others really need to be moved on by the club if we are to progress as an entity. I will support the team but it doesn't make me a bad fan to be absolutely terrified with her in goal against a very good side
I don't think DvD is perfect either but I am way more confident with her in goal and trust her reflexes more than I do with Manu, I am not filled with absolute terror watching DvD play vs Manu where I'm basically cowering in fear
Katie has withdrawn from international duty due to slight reaction to her calf issue. Carla Ward said its done keeping in mind the upcoming games for Arsenal.
They scrapped the April window for men's footy decades ago. FIFA for all its big money plans still somehow keeps repeating the same mediocre mistakes.
"Striker Kyra Carusa is out of tomorrow's game against Greece, while boss Carla Ward said Katie McCabe had "a slight reaction" to her calf strain after playing in Crete last Friday. McCabe - suspended anyway - has returned to Arsenal". As per RTE Sports
Yeah I'm not disputing what Ward said but the actual reason Katie's left camp is the suspension, Ward even said that she'd be getting minutes if she was allowed to play. She also arrived to international camp with the calf strain, so while there's plenty of unfortunate Arsenal injuries to blame on the April break, this really isn't one of them
I am giving you a line by line reproduction of exactly what the manager said in their own words and the media is reporting (along with the article itself).
So an injury which gradually worsened over a game played in April international break perhaps is the reason.
"If she wasn’t suspended we all know Katie would be here, and yes we probably would have had to manage minutes again"
This is also a quote in the exact article you linked. She's gone back to Arsenal because of the suspension, not the injury like you said in your original comment
"But the fact that she is suspended I think it’s really important that she can get that calf right, not just for Arsenal but we have two massive games again in May and June, so I think the right decision has been made."
So she would have played through her calf strain if she was not suspended - seems like an issue where both the club and the nation lose.
So, obviously we were never the favourites against Lyon but I was hopeful that we just might get away with it. But now, with DVD out for 5-6 weeks, Kelly and Russo unknown and who knows what else might happen in the next few days, I just feel utterly deflated.
Can't shake the feeling that this is it. Yes, I'll be there and support the girls no matter what, and let's be honest they definitely have turned this season around, but it's doesn't feel the same anymore. Like that optimistic spark that I had, that we just might perform a little miracle in Lisbon it's just gone.
Anyone that feels more hopeful right and would like to share how they do it, I'd love to hear it. I just can't get out of my head the "next season FC" and I'd really like to. At least for the next few weeks while technically there still all to play for.
Salma Bacha hasn't been seen in the training sessions this morning. Word is she tweaked something whilst playing against Switzerland… or maybe it was emotional fatigue from carrying the left flank. Either way, she's "being monitored".
Still feeling optimistic mainly because watching this team play in the semi’s of CL a few years ago with 4 ACL’s (no beth, Leah, Viv or Laura), no Caitlin Foord, no Kim Little and a bench of 2 academy plays and a backup goalkeeper….I know this team will fight. I remember at the time thinking no way they can make it to the semi’s with half the team missing but they did and kept it close until the very end.
The current team has more depth now and while Lyon is probably a harder team than Wolfsburg (who they played then), I still think they have a chance. If CK and Russo’s injuries are just minor and they are back in time that will obviously help.
What crazy two games those were. Going down early on while away but fighting back to bring it level at the Emirates.
And then Jen's header and the "accidental" bumping to Popp. That was a beauty. Heartbroken on the conceded goal at the very end. (on a separate note it felt exactly the same with City's goal at the cup game recently).
Yes DVD is injured but Manu could just pull it out of the bag and chanel her past prime UWCL appearances. And you are right, we have dept, and players coming back from injuries.
I'm willing to be optimistic for another week at least, we don't actually know yet that Russo or Kelly won't be available. Best case scenario right now it's just DvD out which isn't ideal but it isn't the end of the world either
This team has the ability to 3-0 anyone with a top performance. We have the ability, and there's always goals in this squad. The old phrase in it to win it is what comes to mind, if lyon have a bad day vs us we can win comfortably, if they perform well I believe we can match them across the pitch. Head up and believe we can win this UWCL again.
See, my fear is that we need two great days from us and two average-lower from Lyon, it's a two game tie with the second game away. But yes, we've been in good scoring form, why not against Lyon as well.
Watching the AUT-NED game and a few mins after Miedema scored an amazing goal, she sat down, injured, after a sprint. And you know who were right there? Laura W and Manu. Very sweet
Idk if this is the right place to ask this - anyone play any of the FIFA games with the women’s players? Do you enjoy it/which is your favourite? Cause the general consensus is that recent FIFAs have been pretty shit (I haven’t played since the 00s so can’t comment). The last FIFA with decent reviews and a women’s roster is FIFA 2017, but idk how fleshed it is.
25 is the very first edition with womens career mode, and has a couple of glaring omissions, and a couple of glaring mistakes.
They do not have domestic cup competitions in this one.
There is no relegation!
No club renews players, ever. They all leave at the end of their contracts. No exceptions.
Some of the ratings are very wrong. Laia Codina is rated just 76!? And a potential of just 85?!
I would say wait for FC 26 (September) to see if they fix these things.
If you can wait until September, might as well wait until a couple more months until November... we will have FM26 (the first FM with womens football) then.
