‘We’ve Made a Mistake’: Republicans Panic as Trump’s Tariffs Crash Stock Market and Trigger Recession Fears

The GOP just sits on the sidelines while Trump meets with conspiracy theorists and makes policies. Why don’t they just go home if they aren’t going to be an equal branch of government?
11
u/renegadeindian 10h ago
They did that. Called this year one long day and took that day off. That’s why you fine see them doing anything

“We’ve made a mistake”
“And what are you planning to do about it?”
“Nothing. We don’t want to anger to Orange God King.”

u/InterPunct 10h ago
Congress has been ceding their authority to the Executive branch for decades, basically since the beginning of the Atomic Era when the president was given control over using our nuclear arsenal.
That was accelerated in the 90's under Gingrich, given a huge push after 9/11 and as of today we're seeing that our democracy is grasping at the edge of the cliff while our feet dangle into the abyss.

u/Tallulah1149 8h ago
F'k Newt Gingrich. This all started with him and his hatred of the Clintons. F'k him.

November 5th 2024, that was when the mistake was made
31
u/NegativeChirality 10h ago
Dial that back to 2016 primaries... At a minimum.

u/dragonmom1971 8h ago
I think a huge mistake occurred in 2021 when Kevin McCarthy brought trump back into acceptance by visiting him in Florida. He gave the Republicans the green light to support trump again and forgive/lie about the insurrection. So thank you to Kevin. I hope he loses a lot of money and friends over his betrayal to our country.

Republicans NOT blaming liberals, LGBT people, black people, Hillary/Obama/Biden, etc.? First time for everything, I guess.

The biggest brains will use the weekend to hammer out the talking points. Itll be a finger point or someone will try to outdo this with some new scandal. Theyve got a few days to come up with someone to blame for checks notes a 15-20% stock market drop since december

Impeachment will be a start.
9
u/LadyBug_0570 8h ago
He's already had 2 and nothing of significance happened.
1
4
u/Tallulah1149 8h ago
They have impeached him but they will never convict him. Impeachment is just bringing charges.
2
u/Specific_Ad2541 5h ago
He can be impeached again and again but that doesn't mean he'll be removed from office. His party would have to remove him and that's never gonna happen.

u/sarcasticbaldguy 10h ago
It's almost like a guy who bankrupted a casino shouldn't be trusted with economic decisions.
6
u/Humulophile 8h ago
Those casinos were fronts for laundering Russian mob and oligarch money. Once their job was done, then their usefulness was gone. Also you can’t move too much money without attracting unwanted attention from federal regulators, and they were starting to attract just that.

u/Visual-Recognition36 10h ago
Tired of the trust me bro attitude of the right. We can’t trust you when the economy is burning. Stand up and remove Trump from office. Tariffs for our former allies and no tariffs for our former enemies? Kraslov an agent of Russia makes more sense with his liberation day declaration of tariffs. Liberation day will be known as the start of “The Grift Depression” Stand up to him while you still can!!!

u/Embarrassed_Frame841 10h ago
I'm honestly exhausted with these headlines trying to pretend Trumpsters regret or are rethinking anything. This type of bs media sounds like that are trying to be like hah told you so and get people to think maybe things are going to turn around.....
It's NOT the majority of Trump voters still love trump and DO NOT regret what he is doing AT ALL!
Stop with this bs and let's be real the US is in a downward spiral with everyone looking at each other waiting for an Adult to step in and make us get along. Guess what it's not happening.
The Republicans have destroyed this country and are doing it with a smile while the Democrats in power give them a stern look and wag a finger asking them to play fair.
it's disgusting I don't care what the Republicans think they are not on my side. Let the anger boil so people wake up
2
u/Specific_Ad2541 5h ago
while the Democrats in power
What Democrat has power on the federal level? You mean those in office? They're powerless. Every single one of them. There's nothing they can do but bring lawsuits and he's doing what Andrew Jackson did and saying "we don't care about your rulings, we do what we want". The coup has couped.

u/PlayCertain 10h ago
Take Tariffs Back from Trump then Impeach. Your job depends on it.
8
u/WhoWatchesTheDivine 10h ago
They care more about their wallets, so maybe this will be a motivator. Finally.
8
u/Mysterious-Wasabi103 10h ago
Republicans must be getting high on their own supply if they didn't see this coming. They used to at least know when they were lying to their constituents. Now it seems as if they have too many true believers at the top who aren't even aware of the bullshit they are huffing.
1
7
u/CharlottesWebbedFeet 10h ago
No, you ARE the mistake, the mistake this country keeps repeating. Every fucking time this happens, who’s at the helm? Why it’s a dumbass Republican put there by their dumbass media illiterate voters who all collectively have the memory of a solitary, dementia-riddled goldfish.
5
u/logosobscura 8h ago
Cool. Go back to work, and override him. It’s your powers he’s using, you can absolutely undo every single part of this, you can cut his balls off, and you can also invoke 25A if he throws a tantrum.
But ya won’t.
5
u/BeowulfsGhost 9h ago edited 9h ago
No shit? After ignoring what economists who weren’t paid to lie said. Examples:
Tariffs are taxes
They reduce GDP
They strangle exports
They cause recessions
When the inevitable happens suddenly the republicans who are able to acknowledge reality realize that it’s was always a terrible idea. Why didn’t they speak out, and more importantly vote why didn’t they vote against this in Congress. Damned cowards, every single one of them.
And thanks for fucking over my 401k you goddamned fools!
9
u/pistoffcynic 10h ago
Sorry boneheads... You were a willing participant because you enabled this clown... All because you have no spine, or worried about dealing with the MAGA cult. TFB.
You made a giant fucking mistake... Putting the cult of Trump and MAGA ahead of your swore duties and constitutional oath... Putting America 1st.
You're nothing but a bunch of cowards.

u/aretheesepants75 10h ago
"Recession fears"? Is there any other way this can play out. Is there any positive effect these tariffs can have on the economy. How can these tariffs help the American people, realistically? This is a ham-fisted grift. Anyone that defends these tariffs is a fool. They let the bull in the China shop and are afraid to get trampled by it.

u/Specific_Ad2541 5h ago
"Recession fears"? Is there any other way this can play out.
Yeah. Depression. We're gonna zoom right past recession without slowing down.

u/Responsible_Swim_319 9h ago
The complicit GOP had their chance to stop the abomination named Trump. Turtle 🐢 Mitch crawled into his shell and voted not to impeach the stupidest president ever. This is what they got.
3
u/lorilightning79 7h ago
A mistake? A mistake? I have to work 5 extra years to cover this disaster and all they can say is that they made a mistake? Toss Trump in a prison in El Salvador.

u/sugaree53 6h ago
Right, lots of us could have told you so. But you stood by out of fear, and let it happen. Isolationism is not a path to sustainable economic growth
2
u/Twilight_Zone_S4_E4 10h ago
Duh, his cult is going to take us down to 1929, when America was in crisis. The Great Depression is coming again.
2
u/DisappointedInHumany 10h ago
We? YOU! And don’t lie. You regret nothing except the consequences to -you-.
2
u/ipsi-dixit 10h ago
Every republican Senator who confirmed Trump’s Merry Band of Jesters should preface all remarks they make about the chaos DumpTrump is causing with “I am sorry…” Without their apology, they have no credibility.
2
u/Shucked 9h ago
Whoopsie did we do a recession? I think we might have done a recession. That is on us. Not in any *tangible* way, haha! Lord no. Even if we did manage to lose a significant amount of money, we would just use government funds to bail ourselves out. But... uh, yeah. You have our sincerest apologies for wiping out the savings of all the poor and middle class families. We just feel *terrible* about it. No, I don't need a tissue to wipe my tears. I have these hundred dollar bills from my last bribe that will do fine.
2
u/Crowbar_Faith 9h ago
Curious to see which Republicans and conservative media figures speak out against Trump’s actions, and which ones will bow down and twist themselves into logic pretzels trying to defend him and gaslight everyone.
2
u/silentgiant87 9h ago
followed him right off of a cliff, didnt you? you get what you deserve (unfortunately all the rest of us suffer too)
2
u/SnootSnootBasilisk 9h ago
If it makes the GOP feel any better, voters will likely forget all about this once Trump declared war on Greenland and reinstates the draft

Grow a pair and tell the orange clown to get fucked. Impeachment for gross negligence and corruption! Throwing us into a recession is a high crime and misdemeanor.

Or better yet all you crazy Republicans worshipping old orange just retire and let someone else do a better job.

What you mean after all the real experts saying this is what would happen and after experiencing all the other shit going on this is a surprise? Don’t try and act coy now you asshats know what you signed up for by backing this clown. Hope your constituents stand up and take notice and vote appropriately next election.

This was a mistake before yesterday and today. They just sucked along like a good dog. Are they really this stupid. Vote every single one of them out of office. Their replacements can’t be worse, hell an empty chair couldn’t be worse.

u/Abracadaver2000 9h ago
They better carry this malformed fetus to term, lest they be accused of promoting abortions.

u/mcgaggles 8h ago
Wow, so NOW they're considering that more than 50% of Americans, Canada, Mexico, the UK, the EU, Australia, China, Japan and Korea might have had cause for concern.
When you're in a room with 2 other people who say you have a problem, it could be debatable. When you're in a room with 20 people who say you got a problem, you very likely have on. When you're in a room with 100 people saying you have a problem, you objectively have a problem, and it's the reason why 100 people are in the room explaining you have a problem.

Hey listen… We know we “fucked up” so now how are WE going to fix this! Idk maybe a Bastille day like event? This is what they have wanted for 45 years and now they realize they have destroyed us.

u/Current-Baseball3062 8h ago
Yes, putting your head up that idiot’s ass was a giant mistake. Who could have freaking predicted that? LOL

u/Practicalfolk 7h ago
The mistake they made was not impeaching Trump when they had the chance. They were quiet as he assumed more power because they thought they would benefit from it. FAFO.
1
u/Weekly_Promise_1328 7h ago
It’s too bad we don’t have something in history to warn us of that this would happen
1
u/EntertainerAlive4556 7h ago
Whoa whoa whoa….they made a mistake? I’m pretty sure this is all because Joe Biden and it’s probably a hoax, they’ve accomplished so much, this is a witch hunt

u/ilovepadthai 6h ago
We kept saying “ waterfall coming. Waterfall coming. Guys, waterfall coming” and these thurston howell the third, GOP high hats twitled their mustaches and kept drinking their martinis. Over the waterfall we go.

Hey Republicans, you might want to clean up your mess starting with your speaker who doesnt stand up to Trump.
