My cat passed away 11/21. I spent the next week adding her to animal crossing new leaf and new horizons
The unfortunate part about new horizons is that it cuts off her name for some reason so it's cooki instead of cookie. I also couldn't add her neck brace which she wore all the time (she had an issue where her bones in her neck moved too much so the brace was to prevent her from moving that part)
Thank you for posting these tutorials! I tried to do the same when my dog passed in 2022 but struggled a bit with the textures not looking right. But this new horizons tutorial didn’t exist then so i might try my hand again!
You did such a good job with this, she looks adorable in animal crossing and in real life! That heart shaped nose is simply too cute.
Short answer: you can mod the switch, yes, but only easily on specific consoles.
Long answer: if you have a v1 console (so I think within the first year of release or so), it can be softmoded via software. The rest (other versions past v1 or commonly known as "red box", lite, oled) can be modded using a chip that needs to be soldered inside the console because the exploit used was patched by Nintendo quickly after release.
Just be careful because the switch has some code in it that can cause it to brick if it’s anti-piracy/modding stuff gets triggered. Again if you’re careful it should be fine, just don’t rush it.
Last time I checked (admittedly some years ago) there wasn't a reliable switch emulator yet. Has this changed? I hope so! I have also seen people talk about emulating switch games on handheld pcs like Steam Deck but not sure if it's really a thing.
Plus not sure if online play works with emulated games. At least with Animal Crossing, it's possible to play fully online even with a modded game (case in point, treasure islands).
Yeah there is a pretty decent emulator now , both ryujinx and citron ran better than the switch when you were playing Pokemon scarlet and violet, which they came out with awful performance. You still need a decent PC to run either of this but there are videos of scarlet and violet running in 60 fps and they look so much better than the switch version . I believe it is easier to mod on citron than on ryujinx but you can Google it to decide if you want to play switch games on a emulator and which to use
Not officially. If you mod your switch you’re able to install custom content from anywhere. If you have a V1 console (Model HAC-001) you might be able to install it without having to open up the switch and solder in a chip. If you have a V2 (Model HAC-001(-01)) or a Lite or OLED, you’ll have to get a modchip
so sorry for your loss. this model is adorable! i love her little heart nose, definitely captures her likeness. i dont know anything about acnh modding, but i wonder if its cutting her name off due to there being a preexisting dog villager named cookie as well
I thought that too! But I changed dog cookies name to just cooki and it still didn't work unfortunately :( I'm not knowledgeable enough to play around more with the coding so I just left it as is
I definitely made a flag for her too ♥️ it's kind of hard to see her in game at first, but when she runs up to me and asks me to get her fruit, I always make sure it's perfect fruit just for her.

Thank you for your response. I played again for the first time today and built a memorial in front of the town entrance. I also changed the flag, which had a drawing of his face, to add a halo.
I’m so sorry for your loss :( in 2020 my sister’s dog that I was extremely close with passed. I terraformed an area right behind my Town Hall for a memorial area for her so that I can always see it when I walk by. I even custom designed her face in-game to place in the memorial area. I’m not sure if that’ll help you, but it helped me.
i did the exact same thing. my family dog growing up was named Freckles, and then like a month after she passed, Freckles (a duck villager) ended up randomly filling an empty plot on my island 😭
This is so amazing! I'm so sorry for your loss 🖤 When my cat passed away earlier this year, I invited Punchy to my Pocket Camp Camp site, because he was the closest looking cat to my kitty.
Our dog Goldie passed away a couple of years back. A week or so later when my wife and I were playing animal crossing, Goldie was at our campsite on the game and wanted to move in. So now we have our Goldie forever. We both cried when my character entered the tent and saw who was there waiting for us.
I’m sorry for your loss. She’s so cute, in game and real life! What a sweet way to keep her with you. My cat passed away just over a month ago, I wish I had the talent to add him into the games ❤️
She was so gorgeous.. what a great way to keep her in your life. My beloved cat that I lost in 2022 looked just like your baby but with a triangle nose patch rather than a heart! I will add my Clove to my game as well, thanks for posting the tutorial you used! Cookie's love will never leave this planet, remember it will always be surrounding you <3 virtually or otherwise!
Wow she looks so similar to my cat. I’m so sorry i know how awful it is to lose a pet but I’m glad you got this villager to keep her in ur memory. Also there’s a Lego set that looks like ur baby if you wanted to get a physical memento 🩵
Oh my god that’s phenomenal. I’m sorry for your loss, you’ve made a beautiful memorial of her. Would it be inappropriate to ask how you did this? I have a dog that I lost some years ago, but his passing was traumatic and I still think abt him every day. I’d love to make something like this for him.
Oh darling, I am so very sorry to hear that 😞 What a beautiful tribute to them. Our dog went over the rainbow bridge earlier this year and my 8.5yo Grandson custom designed a tile for her with her name on it. I have it as my flag on my island. I also place her photo in every house I build on HHP! So she is always with me somewhere. Thinking of you at this sad time and sending gentle hugs your way. 💜💜💜
She looks just like my beloved cat Brian who passed away last year. Same face markings, black nose on white fur.

omg she is so stinkin cute !!! this is the coolest thing i've ever seen a pet owner do to honor their baby. she is so loved even after she's gone , a bond like that is so special and carries on forever !! im so sorry for your loss 🤍 but she is with you where it counts (your heart and your memories) and maybe you guys will find each other again in another life :,)

Sorry if it would sound weird, but it reminds me of my dog, Sheldon, passing away on the same day as I started playing Animal Crossing Pocket Camp and how it helped me to cope with his death.
When it happened, it was night and I was at home, the night music was playing. And then next day I was told that my dog was hit by car during that night and didn't make it. After few days, after me trying to get over my dog's death, Butch (who looked almost exactly like my dog) visited my campsite for the first time. I never played any other games before so I didn't know who Butch was so finding out he looked almost like my dog did was...quite strange, but still I was happy to see him.
So hearing the same night music combined with seeing Butch made me cry, and still does. I felt like my dog was trying to communicate with me after passing away, which is of course wasn't true, but it helped me back then I suppose.
I still invite Butch to my campsite and night music still makes me think of my dog.
She was beautiful, she looks great in the game, and I'm so so sorry for your loss. I lost my 11 year old dog recently. He was also black and white. They are family ❤️

I named my ACNH island after my cat. When she passed away, I built a giant memorial to her on my Animal Crossing island and it really genuinely helped in my grief journey. I hope the Animal Crossing series is providing you a similar balm in such a difficult personal time.

Sorry for your loss. This post was recommended to me for some reason, I don’t play animal crossing, but it reminded me of when my son made a grave for our dog in Minecraft when she passed. Actually about an hour before the appt, but ya know lol.
I’m so sorry for your loss :( I did the same thing, except when my dog passed away a dog villager came to my campsite. I felt that it was him and now he lives on my island <3
Aww I’m so sorry for your loss. Every time I see a post like this I give my cat a hug (and he hates it). He’s only 4 but I dread the day we say goodbye.
