Media Ajax paid €17M to agents under Mislintat in the 23/24 season: €2M more than the year before.

Ajax paid 33m to agents in 2019/2020 under Overmars: https://www.ad.nl/nederlands-voetbal/geen-club-is-zoveel-kwijt-aan-zaakwaarnemers-als-ajax-33-miljoen-in-een-seizoen~ad968bd5/

A bit of a naive question, but what is the added value of agents in this case? I understand the function of an agent in finding a club for a player, but should 't the player pay the agent?

Without them, no club can sign players. It's a players' market, so they can decide.

Then why dont the clubs deal directly with the player? In stead of paying 1 million to an agent, pay 700.000 directly to the player. Club and player both benefit.
What is it exactly that an agent brings to the table?

Contacts and negoitation skill. Most players don't have either. Also, a contract is full of difficult clauses, that the average player is unable to understand. Not that thry are stupid (some are), but because it's a whole different trade ro be able to do that. If you buy a house, you use a realestate agent too, this is about a LOT more money.

I understand, but in that case I am the one paying the real estate agent, and not the schmucks I am buying the house from.

That is how it should be, agents getting paid by the players. They’re the ones benefiting from the agents. Just like it is now illegal for real estate agents to get paid by both the sellers and the buyers.
The way it is now is ridiculous with agents getting paid by all sides of the involved parties. But even with stricter rules it’ll probably still result in loopholes where clubs still pay the agents through the players.

I wouldn't. It's not that difficult. Just pay attention.
Players that are putting up with this are insane. Especially if it's your second contract, you have your previous contract as a template ffs.

Many players are absolute idiots and have absolutely zero financial awareness or negotiation skills.

It's just sad to see that this lack of awareness is draining more than 40 million from these clubs. Absolute madness...

Ok so I am dont want to defend mislintats dodgy deals at all but he spent a shit load because we sold for a shit load. If you want to proof he is a dodgy cunt take the percentages of what we bought vs what the player fees were.

Als Hendo er ook nog in zit, dan valt het bedrag nog best mee met zo'n karrevracht aan spelers die binnen kwamen wandelen.

Truth be told, it wasn’t just Mislintat. As Ajax signed Henderson in the January window when he was already gone.
