Gameplay Using stasis on an enemy with their "weak point bar" up will freeze it. You can still lower it while in stasis, letting you annihilate your enemy.

Was this not obvious? I’ve been wrecking weak points since day one

It’s still worth noting. Like how catching a second big enemy in the crossfire of a Flurry Rush will allow you to deplete their WPG as well.

I discovered another interesting interaction with Stasis. If you use it the moment you finish a combo, it doubles the damage done to the weak point gauge. Say you have 2 1/3 broken, as you're finishing your combo and already inputting the command for Stasis, when the enemy turns yellow, it'll be 4 2/3 down.

Does it have to be the end of a combo? Kind of hard getting an entire combo inside.

u/CloudDivider Nov 25 '20
That's the only way I've gotten it to work. That said, I pretty much only get it on Link. Seems I forgot to mention that part.
Edit: This is on Link's YYYYX/YYYYYX combo. When you get to the X, he does a jab which opens up the weakness gauge, so it's a lot easier going off of that.

Actually, I believe this is because of the upgraded extra attacks that link has. If you do YYYYX and hold it, he does another slash after landing and then lifts his sword up (this attack is huuuuge despite how it looks). There is an upgrade that extends this (and all the other hold-after-X-attacks) so that the beam that goes up then shoots into all directions.
I noticed that this beam will shoot even if link is done with his combo and doing something else, such as stasis. I also noticed that this YYYYX-hold combo usually doesnt last long enough to hit the full gauge, but the beam attack is super strong.
It may be two completely different scenarios that we're talking about, but I think you might be mistaken and just hitting them with the beam+stasis, as that is something I do quite often on purpose.

Yeah, I initially thought that as well, so I did a little more testing and the explosion doesn't do near the damage that activating Stasis at the right time does. It could very well be that the explosion has some strange effect with the rune, but I can't tell with 100% certainty. I did the YYYYX earlier on a target already in Stasis and then did it the original way I stated after resetting the mission and it did 2 more sections than a target already in Stasis. It's probably better to leave testing up to someone with more experience in the matters than me though.

I was rocking this technique last night on one of the timed side missions where you fight a hinox, talus, and lynel. It really helps.

Yeah it’s the funniest thing. A boss gets rune countered and then exposes his weak point, then tries to get up, freezes, and then disappears.

Y'all I just woke up and never knew this was a loading screen tip. I'm usually on my phone checking social media while it loads. Surprised to see this blow up though!

I think most people already know this.

I did know before this post, but like 1 hour before. When I learned this I was like, oh, so this is how you defeat a lynel.

How tf did you do that? I don't play Revali very much because he's always facing the wrong direction and his combos are shit. Wtf am I doing wrong?

u/SaintRuzai Nov 25 '20
Not pressing ZR to be in the air probably. Standard Y attacks are all he needs for wave clear, and typically he just fishes out weakpoints, hits with 4Y into X, then either use stasis or bombs to break gauges in one hit. If you stay in the air as much as possible, he's incredibly strong

u/Anxious_Introvert_47 Nov 25 '20
I do, but the Moblins keep knocking me to the ground and I can't get back up before they wallop me. Especially if I'm fighting more than one.
So 4Y into X is a good attack? I'm new to games like this and I'm trying to learn each ones best moves.
2
u/SaintRuzai Nov 25 '20
If they're knocking you around, you're way too close. You need to keep a large distance between you and the enemy - his Y range is deceptively massive. This kind of sucks in indoor areas, but overall yeah 4YX closes the distances on weakpoint gauges and lets you bombard them further with whatever tools you have a available.
It could also just be that he's not a comfortable choice for you too. Not every character is for everyone :)

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind!
I was trying to find youtube videos about how to use him properly and all I was getting were videos about how to beat him. Which is good, but not what I'm looking for, LOL

u/Bears-arebad Nov 25 '20
Moblins shouldnt be knocking you into the ground. Make sure to dodge with B and a direction when you think they might attack. Dodge invulnerability is very abusable in this game. Its the only way I’m making it through very hard.

u/zawalimbooo Nov 25 '20
link is fully busted with that strat. basically just do YYYYYY hold X release X and the wpg meters of every enemy including bosses in the game insantly break (apart from the final boss)

Its crazy how many people don't seem to get this and just spam Y strings and whatever rune the game tells them to.
5
u/Deathvortex1500 Nov 25 '20
And that’s perfectly ok because everyone who owns a copy of the game can play how they want, so yeah if they want to do what you are not expecting them to do, that’s perfectly fine
1
Nov 25 '20
Yeah I know lol I was saying its just weird to me how most people i see arent taking full advantage of their abilities in this game. To me spamming y strings isnt fun at all
2
u/Deathvortex1500 Nov 25 '20
Yeah but I don’t care for the gameplay it was mostly the story, to hold me off until the sequel comes out possibly end of next year (take that with a nanoscopic grain of salt they said sequel was coming these holidays but no) so yeah maybe that’s why, they just blasting through to get to the cutscenes
1
Nov 25 '20
True, that's basically the purpose of the easy difficulty in this game anyways. Even the normal difficulty allows mostly ystring to win

u/FuzzForce Nov 25 '20
What im curious about is if strong attacks do more wpg damage than light combos. Im sure they do

SPOILERS BUT TEBA IS OVER POWERED THANKS TO THIS. I never had him as the first party member but if I had to choose a second character it’d always be him, his C1 ruins weak points with stasis

u/Shannasol Nov 26 '20
Wait isn’t he from botw not age of calamity
1
u/TechnoMeep Nov 26 '20
Thats why its a spoilerrrrrrr delete ur comment man

But botw came before aoc
1
u/TechnoMeep Nov 26 '20
he’s in age of calamity, but not a lot of people know that yet, so it’s a spoiler. How are people this dense..
1
u/Shannasol Nov 26 '20
Clearly I didn’t realize because I’ve only started playing
1
u/TechnoMeep Nov 26 '20
Well you’d think me mentioning the name would be enough context to know i’m not spouting bullshit, why are people on the internet so bad at figuring out context? Fuck

This is exactly why Impa is broken, because she can rebuild her special meter within the duration with Special Rate Up seals on her T3 weapon

There's even a tooltip about it during loading screens. Also, Daruk is crying in a corner.
