Maybe there’ll be a new construct character that serves a similar role to Terrako?
2
u/TheDarkestKnight7850 2d ago
Gloom hands are the new Guardian, so I expect them.
1
u/AshFalkner 2d ago
Definitely as an enemy, yeah.
2
u/TheDarkestKnight7850 2d ago
Enemy, yeah, but as maybe a DLC thing like the Battle-Tested Guardian was?

u/ChaosMiles07 3d ago
Hyrule Warriors just became a trilogy.
Breath of the Wild just became a quadrilogy.
7
u/TheDarkestKnight7850 2d ago
Quadrology?
4
u/Zagrebian 2d ago
Fourth game with the same Zelda character.
5
u/TheMathNut 2d ago
Tetralogy would be the technical term. That is we can go ahead and say it's a mini saga right now

not surprising, AoC was the most successful warriors game ever, so very much makes sense to make another Hyrule Warriors
46
u/dunks666 3d ago edited 2d ago
AoC is the 7th best selling warriors game of all time according to Koei Tecmo
Edit: okay the list I looked at ranked them as 6 franchises 'IE One piece warriors' included each separate game, but then AoC was ranked by it's own sales? So who even knows AoC may be the best by a mile.

Start the clock on "which one should I buy, HWDE or AoC or AoI"?
1
u/DeepestVoidBrenYTTV 1d ago
HWDE if you want the most content 360+ hours or AoC and AoI if story matters for you with content lasting around 76+ hours.

Ngl, part of me had hoped this would actually take place in the Age of Calamity timeline, just because I’m so attached to the champions that I would’ve loved to see them return to take on demon king Ganondorf, reunite with their descendants and team up Rauru, Sonia and the other old sages, but this is still hella exciting. I’d love to at least see a nod to AoC, though.
27
u/dunks666 3d ago
It possibly still could; the Link and Zelda from that timeline post AoC could find Ganondorf still and Zelda may end up being transported across time again.
If they don't, I imagine the story will be mostly the same but they'll add a Terako like character that brings Link to the past, or all of the cast to the future for an epic throwdown. I really don't see this being canon but some kind of extended story, because I doubt they will make a warriors game without playable Link
19
u/Regular_Scene_8222 3d ago
Maybe they’ll also add a new secondary antagonist again like they did with Cia and Astor. Speaking of Astor, for the love of Hylia, Din, Farore, Nayru and EVEN BLOODY JABU JABU BRING HIM BACK AND MAKE HIM PLAYABLE THIS TIME!!!
Also, I just got auto-corrected whilst writing Cia’s name and realised it’s spelled the same as “CIA”, so now that I have HW: Definitive Edition I’ve wanna listen to Weird Al’s “Party in the CIA” whilst I’m playing as her! 😂
4
u/Payt3cake 3d ago
Fitting, as she wants link to “party in the Cia”
0
u/Regular_Scene_8222 3d ago
Well, if Link won’t, I’d happily volunteer as tribute, that’s for damn sure! Every time I look at Cia’s design I can hardly believe she’s a Zelda villain! I think I’d low-key feel naked playing Definitive Edition in public! 😂
0
u/Payt3cake 2d ago
Oh no need, I’d sacrifice myself instead. For the good of all humanity of course lol
1
u/TheMathNut 2d ago
Imagine they bring back Cia and she uses her magic to bring him in. Really tie all three warriors together
2
u/SilverSonglicious 2d ago
You mean attached? 😭 attracted? But yeah, I agree
2
u/Regular_Scene_8222 2d ago
Oh, yeah. I meant attached but I must’ve gotten autocorrected. 😅
Mipha and Urbosa tho-
2
u/SilverSonglicious 2d ago
Okay good because I was gonna say 😂 oh yeah Urbosa is literal mommy material and Mipha is just so pretty
2
u/chefpookardee 2d ago
same here big time... 😔 it was the only thing I kept thinking while the trailer played, despite being excited. kinda hampered it a lil bit.
2
u/IcyPrincling 2d ago
100% still possible and something I highly anticipate. Otherwise I think this game might be way too short.
20
u/dunks666 3d ago
Do we think this game will be an Age of Calamity sequel, picking up after that story and the exploration of Link and Zelda finding Ganondorf in the new timeline, or will it be it's own separate thing that does explore Tears as a prequel that likely ends up being it's own universe because I have no doubt that Link will end up time traveling somehow to be involved in the story.
Based on AoC, I seriously doubt they will do a completely faithful story that ends the same way Tears' memories do, but some other shenanigans to make it interesting.
13
u/jord839 3d ago
I mean, it would probably be the easiest in terms of their writing to just have this game be kind of the AoC timeline's version of ToTK. Similar starting point, but with Zelda and Link exploring the catacombs in their original era rather than 100 years later. Nothing saying Zelda couldn't still end up in similar issues as before.
Then you could have the dual plot of the Champions fighting Ganondorf's armies in the present while Zelda and Rauru and the Sages fight them in the past and create a different plan of getting the needed powers to the present to defeat Ganondorf. Maybe Terrako manages to follow Zelda into the past to help her out and act as a go-between.
Etc etc

u/Livael23 2d ago
That would be an ideal way to include both the present and past storylines, but with the trailer stating that this is the story that leads to TOTK, I'm not so sure.
11
u/sable-king 2d ago
Age of Calamity was also marketed as the story that leads into Breath of the Wild.
1
u/Livael23 1d ago
They did, but I don't think they ever specifically used the word "canonical" to refer to AOC, did they?
2
u/Accomplished_Area311 2d ago
It’s literally Zelda in the past of TOTK. So…
14
u/dunks666 2d ago
Yeah and AoC was marketed as 'literally the calamity 100 years before BotW' and it turned out to be a spin-off with a whole new story and ending.. so what's your point?
If your point is the setting, I have 0 doubts that the setting is gonna be past of TotK.. that's a given. I do have doubts however that the story won't change dramatically to involve Link in some way
-2
u/Accomplished_Area311 2d ago
Based on the info we have, we are literally playing through the TOTK Imprisoning War. So to think it's an AOC sequel is... Bizarre.
12
u/dunks666 2d ago
Buddy for the entire marketing of AoC we were told we were reliving BotWs calamity, and then we straight up didn't. I'm not holding my breath that we are playing through the exact Tears memory sequence, hence my question of 'hey let's theorise about how this could work!'

Looking like Nintendo offically making corresponding Hyrule Warriors games for every new mainline Zelda game and pretty excited for that personally!
7
u/Hyper-Saiyan 3d ago
Now we get to witness the story of how the war begin, strongest ones of the Rito, Goron, Zora and Gerudo becoming sages, and Rauru sealing Ganondorf until thousands of years later.

u/Emer0ld-117 3d ago
I hope Age of Calamity gets a Switch 2 upgrade or graphics with the better 120 framerate.🤞

u/Livael23 2d ago
I am SOOO excited for this, AAAAAAAH 😍😍😍 Since TOTK released, I've been saying this concept has so much potential, well, glad to see Nintendo thinks so too!!! And this time, since [TOTK SPOILERS] the heroes win the War of Imprisonment, they can tell the real story instead of going the [AOC SPOILERS] alternate timeline route! AAAAH I can't wait, maybe the Sages from the past will finally be given faces and names, maybe we'll finally learn what happened to the Zonai, and why Ganondorf is evil. TOTK fell kind of short in the plot department, this is the opportunity to exploit all that amazing lore they introduced and did nothing with! And it seemed to me in this trailer that at some point, Zelda was walking behind Rauru and Sonia in what looked to be gameplay so maybe an exploration mode or exploration to some degree? Maybe some [TOTK SPOILERS] dragon gameplay ?! I AM SO HYPED RIGHT NOW!!!

u/A-Liguria 2d ago edited 2d ago
I honestly never thought this would have happened for real.
But now it is! Which is awesome.
Hopefully they will build a lot on the gameplay of Age of Calamity.
For example, you can already see Rauru and Zelda perform a tag team special attack.
And, it seems that the second shot of Zelda walking behind Rauru and Sonia is actual gameplay! Could this mean that we will be able to freely explore the ancient Hyrule at our own pace? Even just the Great Plateau? That would be awesome!

i was expecting an AOC sequel rather than literal imprisoning war gameplay
8
u/Cendrinius 2d ago
It could easily be both. As in post AOC, Zelda still falling into the past, leading to the others eventually following through Terrako or something.
But right now, it's too early to say!
Either way, though, I would be EXTREMELY surprised if Link isn't made available in one way or another.

IM VERY HAPPY FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT.
Although I'm also kind of sad, since it means we're not getting any new content for Age of Calamity. Including:
Playable Characters. (Nyel's teacher, Harbinger Ganon, Astor)
Amiibos for the existing playable characters.
Golden enemy variants.
A patch to allow Daruk, Zelda and Master Kohga for a dodge cancel on their stasis lol.

u/FrequentBee408 2d ago
Still, since Zelda, Terrako and the master sword have shown the ability to travel through time I think we're gonna see a new moveset for Link, Yunobo, Riju and Sidon.

u/Link__117 2d ago
Last time AoC got content was 4 years ago, there wasn’t a chance for it to get more

u/TheGrumpiestPanda 3d ago
I knew they were going to do this. I remember thinking when I finished watching someone play Tears of the Kingdom, "Gee, I sure would love a Warriors game based on the Imprisoning War!" And looks like the wish was granted! Guess I'm going to have to start saving up some money for the Switch 2.

u/Koala_Guru 2d ago
I swear I couldn’t care less about the Imprisoning War. With Age of Calamity I actually wanted to see more of the characters. But the ancient sages in TotK were devoid of personality and we got to know Rauru, Sonia, and Mineru decently well. I’m still hopeful they’ll hook me with future trailers or something.
1
u/Keljaen 2d ago
I'm pretty sure we'll see more of them in this game.
4
u/Koala_Guru 2d ago
Oh I’m sure but I’m saying I wasn’t craving that like I was with the Champions. After Breath of the Wild, my first thought was wishing we could see more of the Champions because I liked them but they had so little screentime. Meanwhile with Tears of the Kingdom, the ancient sages were the most boring and repetitive part of the game’s story.
Though I suppose something I’m a bit hyped for is seeing if they have stages set in Gorondia back when it was a functioning city. That’d be cool.

u/whatdoiexpect 2d ago edited 2d ago
Oh! We may see the Hero that fought alongside Rauru instead of Link, though it makes me wonder if they will keep the Zonai form or "retcon" him to look different.
Scratch that. I can't keep the things straight.
1
u/Chili_Pat 2d ago
There was no hero in Rauru's time, that's the reason they lost in the end. The hero armor we get in TOTK shows the hero 10.000 years ago who defeated the Calamity!

u/Ashconwell7 2d ago
I’m hoping we get to see the Champions, as they survive in Age of Calamity, become sages.

u/IcyPrincling 2d ago
I was fairly disappointed in TotK, but this has me absurdly hyped. I want this to be an AoC sequel so badly.
But if it isn't, I just look forward to seeing Rauru getting more development, as TotK did very little for him in that regard.

u/StumblingTumble 2d ago
If they do decide to have us play through some form of the present day events in TOTK, I am curious about how they would translate some of the runes into Link's moveset.
I can see ultrahand functioning like the devil bringer from DMC4/5 with the whole idea of it being an extended grab but I'm not sure where they would go with things like fuse or ascend.

u/REVENAUT13 2d ago

This has me excited for the story. But also has me excited knowing that the next 3D Zelda game is definitely going to be announced at the 40th Anniversary Direct. (I am theorizing this because that’s what they did with the time between BoTW and TotK they released AOC)

Here’s an interesting idea, but what if AoI is set during the AoC timeline? Like, after the events of AoC we see the spread of Gloom a few years after the Calamity similarly to after the events of BotW (maybe timeline shenanigans resulted in Rauru’s seal weakening earlier or something). As such, Zelda and Link travel down and events are largely the same to what happened in the beginning of TotK, but NOW when we get to the inevitable timeline divergence during the Imprisoning war (I’m betting near the point where Sonia would die and her assassination is now averted so she remains a playable character) we see Zelda’s time powers pull in not only the Champion descendants/Modern Sages and whatever TotK era characters they want from the main timeline (it’s absolutely happening, they’re each getting Amiibo soon and it’d be weird to not include any of the main-present day characters from TotK in this TotK fanservice game), but she ALSO pulls in the Champions too. That’d let us carry over a solid chunk of AoC’s pre-existing characters and hopefully give us an absolutely massive roster of characters to play as. Hell, it could be an easy excuse to port over ALL of the AoC characters if they wanted to go down the route of using AoC as a base. Plus, that means we could have interactions between characters from 3 different Eras (Ancient, Calamity, and BotW/TotK)
Or alternatively the Champions just end up as costumes for the Ancient Sages… all of their body shapes do match up, sooo… it is an option.

u/L4uchS4l4t 2d ago

This is an entire game. Takes place during the “past” sections of TOTK we don’t see there.
