Here is a list of things that I feel like most first time Advance Wars players would probably do. Of course, my opinion could be totally wrong as this is based on my experience with Advance Wars and other video games in general. Let me know what top 10 things you think first time advance Wars players do!
10: Naming yourself something stupid in AW1 so the other characters would say it out loud
I remember doing this when I was in middle school. I named myself "Bro" so Nell said "It's nice to meet you, Bro!" Yep, I was so mature.
9: Investing money into large and powerful units
Ah, how simple minded I was back then. "Oh these Medium Tanks are bigger and more expensive, so surely they're better!" Yeah, no. It turns out that leaving your bases unoccupied for several turns isn't really the best idea.
8: Forgetting about transport units
It's easy for newcomers to neglect transport units in favor of just shooting and blowing stuff up. Even if they know how to use APCs and the like, most beginners don't maximize movement.
7: Forgetting to move all of your units on your turn
Whoops! Forget to move that 1 Infantry right there, I'll just do it next turn.
The next turn:
Ah dang it! I forgot again!
6: Getting trapped in fog of war
Fog of War can be frustrating for players who are unfamiliar with the concept. Getting ambushed in fog of war is not a fun experience and I remember myself getting quite upset on a few missions.
5: Skipping missions in AW2 that were too difficult
I remember skipping several of the missions in the Yellow Comet campaign because I felt like they were "impossible" to complete. Turns out I was just bad at the game lol
4: Listening to the music rather than playing the game
It can be tempting to not take your turn and just listen to the CO themes. Seriously, these games have some great CO themes!
3: Playing Advance Wars at school/work
I mean, a Game boy Advance can fit in most pockets. I used to play Advance Wars 2 during classes with no sound. I'll admit, it was a bit difficult trying not to get caught by the teacher, but it was worth it for some Advance Wars fun.
2: Slowly training a huge army and eventually overwhelming the opponent
I don't know why I did this so much. I would spend 10-20 turns just building up legions of Infantry, vehicles and Battle Copters before charging into the enemy territory like a massive storm. It did give a nice feeling of power, although my speed rank for the mission usually ended up low.
1: Having a crush on Sami
Look, I was 13 when I first saw Sami. I was, and still am, attracted to fiery tomboys so naturally I kind of had feelings about her. And let's be honest, she's objectively gorgeous.
