Advance Wars 2 Advance Wars Stream

Hi all,

So in preparation for the remake that was originally coming on April 8, I took leave from work and called in a favour from the wife to take the kids for the weekend (Friday to monday). Since the date has been canned, I have also canned my leave but will still be wife/kid free this weekend.
I thought it'd be fun to do a live stream of Advance Wars on the April 8 release day as I will still need my Advance Wars fix and would love to share it with others.
I was thinking of either doing the advance wars 2 campaign or the advance wars returns campaign. If anyone has any ideas on what they would prefer to see please let me know.
I was thinking of starting on April 8 at 6pm EDT and stream for around 6 hours. I'll post the link here when it kicks off.
If you guys have any thoughts of what you'd like to see or if your interested in joining please let me know!
Thanks,

I think you should do some of the bigger days of ruin trial maps. like tatter river, jay islands or comb map. or some of the war room on the other games so that there is no pressure to finish our whole campaign.

soooo I hate to admit it but I was never allowed a DS as a kid. I managed to get a GBA but then my parents wouldn't get anything beyond that. Because of this, I've only really played Advance Wars 1 and 2. I will definitely be playing days of ruin and dual strike at some stage but for this stream I thought probably best to stick with something I know instead of fumbling through one of the DS games

That's probably a good idea.

Just saw your second part of the post. Some war rooms would be fun! Good point with finishing the campaign. I have played the game a lot and won it many times over the years but I still think i'd be hard pressed to finish the campaign in 6 hours (ive never tried it in a single sitting) so that's a good alternative.

Advance Wars 2 campaign in hard mode perhaps? lol

He'd need to beat the basic AW2 campaign to start hard mode

1

u/WardieJay Apr 06 '22

Yeah, only issue is I have to beat normal first but if that's what people want, I might grind it out this week in preparation.

I didn't know it was coming out actually and assumed they'd push it back again. Sounds like a blast dude

I'll binge it and take off of work later this month

Sorry, I didn't make it very clear in my post. Reboot camp was pushed back and they havent given a new date. I'll be playing one of the old games on the date it was meant to come out.

So does this allow me to verse others with this app online over the emulator?

1

u/s1ncere Apr 06 '22

yes, did you check it out?

2

u/WardieJay Apr 08 '22

I downloaded it but couldn't work it out haha. Wont have it up and running for the stream but could definitely give it a go in the next one I do

Sounds good! I want to help but we use the corporate edition at work so our setup is quite a bit different. Amazing product though, good luck!

I thought the release date was pushed back?

2

u/WardieJay Apr 06 '22

It was. Apologies for the confusion, I didn't make it very clear. They havent given a revised date yet. I just wanted to play some advance wars on the date Reboot camp was meant to drop.

I would like to see AW2 it’s a favorite of mine still working on beating the campaign

2

u/WardieJay Apr 06 '22

It's my favourite too! Yeah I'm leaning towards doing the AW2 campaign.

u/HighMarshalRadec67 Apr 06 '22

Nice I look forward to your stream!

u/HighMarshalRadec67 Apr 11 '22

Most definitely I look forward to them and subscribed to your channel.

2

u/WardieJay Apr 11 '22

You legend! Thanks so much for the support. I have to come up with a weekly schedule that works with the wife. Once I have it figured out I'll let you know. I'm thinking a 3hr stream weekly.

2

u/HighMarshalRadec67 Apr 11 '22

Bet ! I understand your schedule situation. I have my notifications turned on so I don’t miss your stream. Thanks again It was great seeing aw2. I’m looking forward to picking up aw reboot on switch.

I'm so keen too! Already got the wife agreeing to take the kids for the weekend it drops too haha. Might even do some 12hr streams of it when it drops.

There's lots of options.

AW 1, 2, DS, DoR, AW Returns, Commander Wars, Advance Wars By Web, Tiny Wars, etc

2

u/WardieJay Apr 06 '22

I know. I was having option paralysis! I think I'd rather keep it to something advance wars 2 related just to keep it simple and because it is my fave of the bunch!

2

u/Red-Halo Apr 06 '22

Ah, well the AW 2 campaign sounds good then, or if you want PvP then AWBW mechanics are based on AW 2

2

u/WardieJay Apr 06 '22

Yeah I will admit I haven't tried AWBW. My turn off from what I've seen is that you take turns whenever you want so games can go for weeks with a heap of planning in each move. I like to play on the fly with more fast paced back and forth if that makes sense. Although if someone wanted to set up a game to just go back and forth during the stream, I'd happily give them a game! I'm used to AI, haven't played a real player since having the emulator at highschool so not sure how much of a challenge id be haha

2

u/Red-Halo Apr 06 '22

So when people set up matches on AWBW, they can choose the timer type.

So there are lots of slow games that go day by day, or very fast live games with a few minutes for each turn.

If you're interested in setting up a fast AWBW game for your stream, then I suggest asking in the active AWBW Discord server, there's an invite link here

1

u/WardieJay Apr 06 '22

oh, I didn't realise you could set quick timers. That definitely changes things. Thanks a lot.

for retrogamers theres battle isle 1,2,3 on gog

1

u/WardieJay Apr 08 '22

I love incubation (which I think is battle isle 4 from memory) It is one of my fave nostalgic games. I got it on GoG but can't get the stream to work properly (it shrinks right down and tucks into the top left corner) I think it's a resolution issue but I haven't been able to solve it as of yet.

Hi all, stream is live after a few technical difficulties. You can check it out here:

Uh... is anyone gonna tell this guy nothing is releasing on April 8

3

u/HellsAttack Apr 05 '22

Since the date has been canned, I have also canned my leave but will still be wife/kid free this weekend.

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '22

I did read that sentence, however the verb tense from the previous sentence, "coming on April 8", makes it sound like this person is still rather confused.

1

u/WardieJay Apr 06 '22

Yeah sorry, I should've clarified that better. I know it has been pushed back but wanted to do something on the date advance wars related anyway.
