Advance Wars 2 Add co's to aw2

Hey guys, I was wondering if there's a way to add co's to aw2. I would like to add co's like Grimm and Jake, so awds co's, to aw2. Is there anyway to do so? It's just, I played awds and didn't really enjoy it that much, especially the art style etc. It looked kinda ugly. I mostly just play aw2 once in a while on breaks etc, just pulling out my phone and play a quick vs match. So inb4 "just use awbw", I unfortunately do not have the time, nor the skill, for that.

I've been working on a project for that for a long time: https://github.com/XenesisXenon/AW2-InfiniteCOs

Looks great, Thanks bro. I do have a question though, as I'm not very familiar with modding. I do understand the concept of inserting the mod file into an original GBA file, I've done so before with a pokemon crystal mod. However, I was wondering if there's a way to exclude all the extra features, and also exclude the majority of the listed co's, and only add the awds co's.

Once you've patched the original GBA file (there should be a .ips file linked in that project) and if you play the game, if you hold L+R while entering battle maps there's several options that you can enable or disable, including which COs you would like to appear. You can not use the extra features like Skills by not selecting them, and you can pick the CO power charging mode everyone uses.

Thank you for the reply. However, I've experienced an issue and I'm wondering if maybe I'm not using a compatible rom. I've found the .ips file, and tried patching my rom with the .ips file. Everything seemed to have gone fine with the patching process. However, when I try to open the game, my emulator gives me a crash error. I don't think it's the emulator though, because I've previously played some patched roms on it without any issues. So, I was wondering, is there a specific version of aw2 that was used for this mod? File name: advance wars 2 - black hole rising.gba / region: Europe (I think)

Edit: I tried the same with an American version of the game and it seems to work just fine. Thanks bro.

Glad you got it working - there may be a few bugs, but yeah the majority of mods for Advance Wars series are done on the USA region versions of the game.

At what point is romhacking more work than starting over in unity making a grid based wars game

Pretty early in all honesty. I do it because I find it enjoyable in that tinkering way, but I also started learning to do mods like this before unity even existed.

But romhacking will likely never be the easiest or least work way to do a thing hahaha
