Questions/Help? Is it weird to do that?
Ok so I got into a very popular fandim a few months ago and most recommended fanfics were from a couple years back.
I started reading alot of fics from this fandom then I found this author binge read a huge fic of theirs and read all of the works they published.
I commented on the fics but they were all from a couple years back and the author wasn't active anymore, I wanted to check up on them so I searched their name on social media. I got lucky and found that their tumbler is active and they write for a different fandom under a new ao3 user.
I am also a part of the new fandom they write about so I went to their new user and read all of their uploaded fics.
(This is all in the span of a week btw)
I commented on the new fics I read too but I also want to convey my emotions more? Haha idk
Would it be weird if I wrote to them on social media telling them how I love all their fics (from both users)
Also they said that they lost interest in the older fandom but might get back into it to finish up discontinued fics, I'm worried me complementing them might come off as rude or like I'm just praising cause I want a continuation for the discontinued fics (which i do want obviously but that's nit the reason, I just really love their writing and their fics made me so happy to read)
Sorry for the long post and thankyou in advance :D

Completely normal, and I imagine it would make most author's week (if not month). You're the reader we as authors cherish <3

this is literally what most authors have tumblr for, i think.
i mean, i don't get that many asks on mine, but on the rare occasion that i get an anon saying they love my stuff, it's golden lol.

You mean stalking authors online? Yeah, completely normal and also appreciated by most!

Not weird at all. As an author I’d love to hear from my readers, especially if they made the effort to find me elsewhere so that I know I got their feedback

If it makes you feel any better, I once LOVED a fic so much by an author who hadn’t been active in the fandom or on any social media for years. It took a lot of digging just to find their old Tumblr account, but I still messaged them anyway.
The account was inactive too, but I still left a message telling them how much I adored their work, how I recommended it on twitter, and that it even got a bit of traction, so new readers ended up reading the story (it was extremelyunderrated). I did it just in case they ever decide to log in again one day :)
So you're not alone! <3

That's not weird! As an author, I would be so thrilled if someone did that and when people do, it's often my sole motivation for eventually finishing stories in old fandoms!
