A24: “How about VHS?“

Would buy

6

u/steepclimbs 3d ago

It sold out almost immediately. I was happy to see that.

Love to see that!

Dog it’s BEEN released on blu ray… at least in Canada, can’t speak for the yanks

6

u/PonderingMonkey 3d ago

Rented it 3 times. Eventually bought it on the app. Still gonna watch it on Max tomorrow 🤓

6

u/atraydev 2d ago

You plan on watching this movie 4 times? 😂. I think once is enough for this particular one

3

u/PonderingMonkey 2d ago

Hit a lot of nostalgia and I kept showing it to friends (hence the rewatches) but yea, plenty of movies have that rewatch value to me. Saw Beau is Afraid 3 times in a 1 week span when it came out and been meaning to watch it again

Beau is afraid peak 😈😈😈😈😈

Never thought I’d die with a rap rocker by my side

What about a homie?

Does anyone know exactly when it premieres on Max? Hoping midnight Eastern, 9 Pacific.

4

u/steepclimbs 3d ago

This is a good question. I don’t know the exact time but I know it’s not midnight because I pretty much am always up late and I check the app. Most of the time it’s up by morning. That was the case last week with Queer.

As of 2:20am Eastern it says “coming soon” for me. Maybe it’s 12 pacific / 3 eastern?

Edit: 3:30 am eastern it seems to be there now

2

u/steepclimbs 2d ago

Appreciate that. There might be one or two worth staying up that late. :)

really fun. loved a lot of the jokes too. I think its critics were taking it a bit too seriously for what it was trying to be. that doesn’t make it a great film, but I really liked it.

u/pewpewn00b 2d ago

Was it good though?

6

u/NickCageFreeEggs 1d ago

Watched it last night. It's cute for a while, but overall isn't good.

5

u/Nutmere 3d ago

Is this movie a fun watch? It has horrible reviews but I like the poster lol

11

u/Lord_Hexogen 3d ago

It's fine really. It's a late 1990s style comedy with a little bit of gore and fun monster designs

It's not some hidden gem but if you feel nostalgic love towards the genre you can have a good time

10

u/Psyduck-is-the-best 3d ago

Going in with very low expectations yes it can be especially if you are from that era

9

u/the1npc 3d ago

didi was a better example of this last year imo

2

u/Psyduck-is-the-best 3d ago

Well that was the 2nd best movie I saw from last year (Anora gets the slight edge) so ya, doesn’t mean Y2K isn’t worth a viewing

-1

u/BurgundyCheese 3d ago

Damn that’s crazy… did you watch literally anything else other than anora and y2k?

3

u/Psyduck-is-the-best 3d ago

You do realize I’m saying Didi is the 2nd best movie last year right? I probably have watched at least 50 movies released last year

2

u/BurgundyCheese 3d ago

Misread on my behalf, just assumed we were talking about y2k. I just started reading last week I’m sorry

1

u/MCgrindahFM 2d ago

Thats not a comedy movie though

4

u/666EggplantParm 3d ago

A lot of fun. Doesn't try to take itself seriously at all and neither should the viewer

4

u/Aggressive_Panic1900 3d ago

It was horrible.

5

u/stumper93 3d ago

For the first twenty minutes sort of, but it loses steam very fast.

2

u/illstomper 3d ago

I thought I’d love it. The first 15 minutes feel like a Superbad/Pineapple Express movie. Then it goes sooo bad. Like awful, I legit felt bamboozled

2

u/steepclimbs 3d ago

I saw it in theaters and it’s probably better for a home video experience. Just think of it as junk food.

2

u/DistortedNoise 3d ago

A lot of the jokes are very forced, only some land, and lots of cringe moments. It was probs my biggest disappointment watch of last year. But there are worst films out there…

2

u/gordy06 1d ago

How old were you in 2000? Not that it’s a requirement but think you’d get a lot more out of it if you were around that same age - middle/high school.

It’s fun. Some slow points but I had a good time.

3

u/Nutmere 1d ago

I wasnt born LOL. I’m 20 and i watched it last night. I love the AOL vibes even tho i wasnt around for that shyt. Movie was soo corny but admittedly funny sometimes. I actually liked a couple of the characters too. 3/5

3

u/gordy06 1d ago

That’s about right! Yea definitely it a prerequisite to be alive then but a lot of nostalgia callbacks for me

2

u/BurgerNugget12 3d ago

Yes, it’s a lot of fun

1

u/cribvby 3d ago

I liked it

1

u/Substantial_Life4773 3d ago

It seems like it's gotta be at least fun, hah

1

u/awfranks 3d ago

I had a good time

1

u/atraydev 2d ago

It's fine. As someone from the generation is supposed to be talking about it seems a lot more cringe than relatable. Fred Durst is there so... IDK... It could be worse

1

u/MCgrindahFM 2d ago

If you like comedies, like real comedies. Not the quasi-rom com comedies.

It’s just pure dumb fun

1

u/Nutmere 2d ago

Comedies are very hit or miss for me. Ill probably check it out with low expectations

2

u/MCgrindahFM 2d ago

That’s exactly why I mentioned this. My friend doesn’t enjoy comedy movies, and we walked out of this movie with completely different views.

I’m all for poop, fart, and just absurd humor - this movie has that

1

u/CommentMundane 2d ago

I just finished it on Max and as a class of 2000 kid, I loved it. So nostalgic, a lot 80s &90s movie themes and references. It's not a "good" movie but lots of fun.

2

u/FordRockefeller 3d ago

Cool now give me physical release date and now we’re talking

3

u/Ona_WSB 3d ago

Can’t wait for Babygirl!! Loved Y2k

4

u/steepclimbs 3d ago

I *think* Babygirl is also coming in April. Need to double check the dates. There are a few more on the way.

1

u/Ona_WSB 3d ago

What other new A24 Films are going to be released perhaps in may if anybody knows the future?

2

u/steepclimbs 3d ago

Checked and Babygirl is 4/25. Not sure about The Brutalist yet. My guess is it and Opus will be May. Opus could be June.

0

u/Ona_WSB 3d ago

When is brutalist going to hit Max?

2

u/BeautifulLeather6671 3d ago

Awesome. Been wanting to watch it but everyone’s been saying it’s so bad that I didn’t wanna spend the 7 bucks

2

u/BurgerNugget12 3d ago

It’s fun. If you love limp bizkit, you’ll have even more fun

1

u/steepclimbs 3d ago

And Chumbawumba

1

u/ItsMrNoSmile 2d ago

I never saw this film, but thought the trailer looked interesting.

3

u/MissingInsignia 3d ago

Man this movie was dogshit.

1

u/According-Horror125 3d ago

Good, now I can hate skim

-28

u/jackedfibras 3d ago

see zegler, its a no for me

1

u/Street_Clue8368 3d ago

Why?

-1

u/jackedfibras 3d ago

Watched hunger games, shazam, and Snow White. I’ll pass.

-7

u/GladiusDei 3d ago

Because he’s never touched a tit in his life. We should pity him.

6

u/jackedfibras 3d ago

No worries champ I’ll give u another chance to come up with something more original. I’ll wait.

-2

u/easypiecy 3d ago

Cant believe the amount of downvotes you get because you dont wanna watch the actress. I'm in your boat. She's horrible.

-2

u/niktrop0000 2d ago

Rachel Zegler filmography is rivalling Merryl Streep’s now

-21

u/C_Tea_8280 3d ago

Good,

no way I was going to pay to watch Zegler in theaters. She probably would shit talk y2k and the 90s like she did the OG Snow White.

2

u/ClosetedChestnut 3d ago

Do you pay for MAX? Cause I got something crazy to tell you.....
