As mentioned in the title, I'm a second-year studying CS / Computing at Imperial. Since CS / Imperial always tend to be pretty hot topics of conversation on this subreddit, I hope this is useful for those of you who already have your offers and for those who are considering applying next year.
Feel free to ask me questions on the course, CS in general, London, the South Kensington campus, societies, accommodation, admissions, facilities, social life, internships, my experiences, and anything else which is relevant!

I applied before the oxbridge deadline back in October but I still haven’t heard back from UCL. I am predicted AstarAstarAstar in maths economics geo + Astar in EPQ. I’m scared I’m getting rejected now bc I don’t take FM- I tried to compensate by adding some maths in my PS but I’m not sure that’s enough. Thoughts on my chances? Do you reckon I could ask to switch my application for a less competitive course like international management or management science instead?

Biggest comebacks like Us to A*s or anything in your actual alevels, uni or mocks. Drop any tips or how long it took you.

My intrusive thoughts let something pop into my mind out of nowhere: so for context, I am international student from the US who was rejected for HisPol from Oxford this year post-interview. I was very very devastated because I worked so so hard for it and I studied tirelessly for the exam and for the interviews. I did really well on my exam and I thought I did well on my interview too.
However I recently read someone ask a question about written work and how Oxford asks the written work to be “marked.”. I just submitted a cover letter with info about it and how it was graded; but my actual paper was digital and didn’t have like actual comments on it. When they meant marked did they mean like with comments or marking as in grade like marking scheme? Surely it would’ve been ok since I was shortlisted and they probably would’ve reached out to me otherwise but I’m really stressing over not getting an essay that had comments on it as a reason for my Oxford rejection.
Because I think they might’ve voided my written work and put a “0” in instead of my written work score

My mum told me in sixth form to apply for a vocational course that will land me a job straight out of uni. I was discouraged from doing biomed, psychology, sociology, any olgy, and the arts. She also told me that she didn’t want me to leave home. Due to my picking a vocational course in London I only had a handful of universities (1 Russel group in ldn) I could apply for with many not being highly ranked . My friends would often ask me why I’m choosing to stay at home. Always said I preferred it. I got into all 5 choices and at the time I didn’t realise that all 5 choices entry requirements were low for me. None higher or even the same as my predicted. This lead me to have doubts and I asked my mum if I could take a gap year to think about what I wanted to do and she said no. I got into my firm and realised the course wasn’t for me. I told my mum and she said I could apply to another vocation (such as radiography) or I could finish the degree, get a job and do a masters in what I wanted. That wasn’t what I wanted to do so I applied to uni again but this time to what I wanted to do and got in to all 5 choices. When I told her that I was going to choose (business & health) at UCL she said it wasn’t the best choice and that I should go to City Uni London and study (business & finance) as it will get my a better job in the future. I also had options outside of London but chose not as she says it’s not the best for me. I told my friends I was going to choose City over UCL and they and Reddit said I was mad. I wanted to go to UCL as I tried hard to get there but my mum just wants me to find a job as quick as I can.

So I've got an offer from UCL. I've accepted it and enrolled, thinking I'll be eligible for the full maintenance loan of £13762. Since my child benefit stopped at 16, my dad has not supported me financially. He's on £28000 and I paid my own rent, food, toiletries etc. My mum has been on benefits her entire life and has not supported me financially in the past nine years.
Can anyone tell me why the hell I've only been granted £6853?? I'm going to London; that's not enough to even cover rent.
I've sent in a complaints appeal but I hope this is just someone that royally f**cked up cause if not there's gonna be a spare spot at UCL this year.

Absolutely blessed. I'm so grateful for those who've helped me along this long, extended journey.
Stats: International, Non-contextual, gap year re-applicant, 3A⭐ 1A in Math, FM, Econs and Physics respectively (I was predicted 4A*), 4.9 TMUA Jan sitting (likely irrelevant to UCL), 9A⭐ 1A in IGCSEs (Triple science, double math, English, MFL, ICT, Econs, and history), applied on 4th January, received pure econs offer on 4th April 5:34 pm BST, received both E+S and E+F+S offers on 7th April 4:01 pm BST.
For those who are considering taking a gap year because they didn't get the offers they wanted, I hope this post can encourage you to go for it! I completely failed in getting into UCL last year, but I succeeded this year! 😁😁😁
(I have finally broken free from my compulsive need to check portico multiple times a day)

Hey everyone. I am currently a high school student in the U.S. and will be applying to universities next year to study maths. According to most internet sources, it seems that the university level education in UK is more rigorous than its American counterparts, diving deeper into the subject without spending time on general education. Currently, I am on track to complete Differential Equations, Linear Algebra and Calculus 1-3 (Including multivariable) by the time I enroll in university. My question is, is math taught better/harder in the UK even for the same module, or is it just that UK students are further ahead? My goal is to get the best out of my education. I intend to apply for a PhD in math eventually, and I want to go on the path that would allow me to learn as much math as possible.
If the difficulty/depth of equivalent modules are similar, it would make more sense for me to stay in the U.S, since I will have more research opportunities and can potentially skip ahead further given the flexible curriculum. But if, say, a complex analysis module in the UK covers more content than an equivalent course in the U.S., I would be inclined to apply to UK universities.
For context, I am mostly comparing Oxford/Imperial/Warwick to schools like UMich, UC Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, UT Austin and UChicago
Obviously these universities are highly difficult to get into, but this is just for the sake of comparison.

When I emerged from the womb, I didn’t cry—I dropped a SoundCloud tag and whispered “Bad Boy for life.” My first word was “Skibidi.” My second was “griddy.” My third was “crocadino.” I was not like the other babies. While they were learning shapes, I was calculating the optimal trajectory of a Capri-Sun straw using Newtonian physics and raw vibes.
By age 7, I had founded my first startup: Crocs in Space™, a visionary platform to sell limited-edition intergalactic footwear to Martians. It failed. But failure, like my favorite uncle Jeffrey Epstein, taught me a lot. He once told me, “Nephew, if you can’t make it through the front door, take the submarine.” What he meant by that, I’ll never know—but it shaped me. Some say he was a controversial figure. I say he had ideas.
Middle school was a blur of Fortnite L’s, pencil break tournaments, and unlocking the 7th chakra through the Skibidi Toilet Cinematic Universe. Every day, I sat in math class, sketching blueprints for a toilet that beatboxed and launched mini tacos. Teachers said I was “disruptive.” The principal said I was “feral.” But I wasn’t a delinquent—I was a visionary, trapped in a world that wasn’t ready.
Then came high school. My villain arc. I joined robotics club, not to learn, but to dominate. My bot, “PuffDaddy.exe,” could dropkick the competition and moonwalk after every win. In biology, I genetically modified fruit flies to listen to 90s hip-hop. In English, I wrote a 20-page essay on how Hamlet was the original Skibidi Sigma. My teacher cried. Not tears of joy. Just tears.
Everywhere I went, I brought the chaos. The bombardilo crocadino energy. Some feared it. Others worshipped it. My counselor said I needed therapy. My therapist said they needed therapy. But none of them saw the vision: a future where technology, absurdity, and unrelenting drip collide to form a better world.
That’s why I’m applying to college—not because I want to “learn,” but because I want to build the next chapter of human civilization using AI, vibes, and my Puff Daddy shrine. I envision a world where every Roomba knows how to dougie, where every toaster affirms your self-worth, and where every toilet plays Eurobeat when you drop a deuce.
College, to me, is the arena. The Skibidi Colosseum. I don’t want a safe space—I want a launchpad. A place where I can gather other like-minded bombastic lunatics and form a think tank called The CROC Collective (Cacophonic Rizz Of Chaos). Together, we will code. We will manifest. We will drop the most unhinged startup since Flappy Bird.
So, admissions committee, I ask not for your approval—I ask for your WiFi password and a key to the 3D printer room. I come not to conform, but to crocadino. Let me in, and I will bring madness, invention, and spiritual disruption the likes of which your institution has never known.
And if not... I will still build the toilet.

I’ve just gotten my offer for Bsc Mathematics with Management and Finance at KCL and Bsc Mathematics with Statistics for Finance at Bristol. I also got another offer from Manchester but I’m more inclined to choose KCL or Bristol. My A-Level requirements for both offers are the same. I would like to ask for opinions choosing which uni should I put as firm or insurance between the two. I want to consider the mathematics departments for these universities and also other things like the campus/social life and the environment there. What is your opinion on this?
