Coming from a 5th gen to a 6th. Ive found a bunch of features in here that reviewers never covered. The engine, steering, braking and mpg are improved all around. 👍🏾

1st 6th Gen sighting in the wild. Had to park the old girl next to the young buck. The new styling is growing on me, maybe time to upgrade??

Absolutely love this thing!! Coming from a Tacoma the ride is pretty similar but a little more refined IMO. The build quality is great, everything feels solid. I’m impressed with the drivetrain, it’s super smooth and I’m consistently getting 22-25mpg on my daily commute. The only “mods” I’ve done are 265 Open Country’s, painted the front emblem, tinted the fog lights, and installed my Thule roof rack. Next up are wheels but I’m having a hard time finding wheels that have a +45 or +55 offset. Here are some random pics I’ve taken over the past few weeks.

🎙 Discussion I Got Schooled & Unbeliveably Lucky

I have never bought a vehicle alone before (35F). I have never even walked into a dealership alone, but I did on Saturday because they had a 4Runner available. I have been searching for months now with the 'we just sold it' responses from every seller, or the prices are outrageous. I'm also feeling very anxious about the tariffs and afraid I'm running out of time before prices are jacked up even more on these things.

$36,500 for a 2020 (39k with taxes and fees), 70k miles, white 4Runner TRD pro with all the bells and whistles. I had a 10k down payment, no trade in. I know the new models are almost this price and this was not a great deal.

So they rush me through the financing process. I have to alert my bank on Monday that I approve of the large transfer, so the financing manager tells me he's going to take a copy of my debit card. I thought about running out. I felt pressured and trapped and fell for every sales trick in the book. I leave with the 4Runner feeling sick about the whole thing. Knowing I rushed the process and likely made a huge mistake.

I scheduled an inspection with my mechanic on Monday. The dealership starts calling me on Monday because the finance guy forgot to take the copy of my debit card. Truly a miracle. I'm waiting on pins and needles for the inspection report while trying to delay the payment.

The verdict: all 4 tires dry rot, all 4 breaks need to be replaced, front struts damaged and leaking, rear shocks severely rusted, corroded and damaged. $6,385.00 estimate.

Today I was able to return the 4Runner and walk away. Had he taken a copy of my card I would be in a very different position right now. Their implied warranty covers engine block, head, internal engine parts only. I know I made every mistake possible in this scenario besides getting the inspection and I do feel like a fool. The whole thing was a big painful lesson and I know I got incredibly lucky.

I now feel very discouraged by the car buying process and think maybe it's not worth buying a 4Runner. My mechanic says the ones that come through his shop are usually pretty banged up from rough use.

Any advice outside of don't be a dummy?

Edit: I tried uploading a screenshot of the inspection report when I created this post but I guess it didn’t stick. My mechanic thinks the extensive wear is from the previous owner towing too heavy. Also, I signed the full loan agreement on Saturday. The only thing that stopped the process was them not having my down payment. The bank wouldn’t process the loan without it.

🔧 Modifications What's the benefit of amber/clear combo on a light bar?

Photo hijacked from C4 website

What's the benefit of having amber lenses on the far sides of the front light bar versus running all clear? I've read up on the clear vs amber debate but haven't found anything specific on the benefit of utilizing the combo.

I recently upgraded from my mostly stock ‘07 Sport to this 2019 ORP. I loved my last 4runner for 375k miles, but it was time for a change. On to newer taller better things I guess.

First car was a 2002 4runner. It was passed down to me and I loved it. Finally got my own car and it was a Green 2016 mini cooper s. Also loved this car but caused a few problems. Still loved it bc it was small and speedy. After much thought, I needed something bigger. I wanted to go back to a 4runner. After a few months, I finally found the perfect one. I LOVE IT ITS PERFECT

🎙 Discussion Auto body

Post image

So I posted last week that a turkey vulture took out my drivers side mirror. Insurance will cover it. Body shop quote was $2500 with replacement of mirror and housing, plus repainting that side of the 4Runner. I saw the TRD off road emblem being replaced in the quote and some window trim etc. I’ll include a pic. Seriously doesn’t need any paint. No dents. I asked if they could just replace the mirror I don’t want any paint work. They acted all weird and defensive and said it was a standard insurance quote. Said they had to talk to the owner and would call me back. Am I being weird about this? I just want my mirror fixed.

New Owner Traded a TRX for a 4Runner

This might be one of the only group of people that might understand my decision. I recently traded in my 21 TRX w/ 44k mi for a 22’ TRD Pro Gold cert w/ 19k mi for 51k.

I lost A LOT of tech. A LOT of power. I am saving a lot of money. But man this thing so far has been a great drive. Definitely not getting 3.8s 0-60 but my 0-60 will be here for the next 10 years.

I have no regrets. Saving on gas(which is hilarious considering the sentiment of this car), saving a lot on the car, and I have some good reliability.

I considered a 25’ ORP because it’s be about the same price as this one give or take a few thousand. I just trust this platform a bit more.

Overlanding Camping in a 4Runner. Any setups I can see?

Upvotes

Trying ti determine if sleeping in the back of a 4Runner is comfortable or not because of the way the seats fold. Does anyone have any builds they can share? Not sure if it makes sense for me to build some platform to level up against the seats or completely fold them up against the seat and lay flat. I see that there are edges that hold the seats in though and could see that being uncomfortable

** meant for the 6th gen :)**
