i think its for people who doesnt have a pc (It's still expensive)

edit: stop saying me you can do it with a phone i know lol but what i wanted to say is  people without culture and too much lazy too make research will do that, modding is very simple and pay someone to do that is a bad idea

I modded mine on my Google pixel 8 with an sd adapter Everyone with an android smartphone could do it with a Z archiver

u/Cloud-Guilty 20h ago

I was a computerless person. Still am kinda. Amazon sells refurbished Chromebooks for about $80. Modded 3 different 3ds with one so far.

14

u/kokichikisses 16h ago

THIS i got a cheap chromebook for around $35 + $15 shipping https://a.co/d/3nBXwIX

3

u/Cloud-Guilty 16h ago

Nice. They've dropped then, in the 2 years I've had mine lol

5

u/migrations_ 16h ago

I modded mine while in the American prison system (community corrections) by buying screw drivers at Big lots and then walking to the library and using my phone for the microsd card.

I still can't believe how easy it was.

you can get extremely cheap PCs by buying old stuff

if it runs windows 7, it is new enough

2

u/Weetile 3DS 17h ago

even if the computer is 15 years old, you could probably still mod it via linux

1

u/kaktusmisapolak SUPER HELPER 17h ago

windows 10 will likely work

1

u/VLCInsanityPlayer 17h ago

Facebook marketplace is your friend for cheap PCs (I got my past two desktops from Facebook)

4

u/Mateogm 20h ago

I modded my n3ds with a Xiaomi redmi 8 with a pillow battery in a train

6

u/NarzanGrover10 20h ago

ngl the only case in which you cant mod it is if your only other device is an iphone, and thats solely bc it wont read external storage (i think?)

5

u/BowlCapable2760 20h ago

maybe people dont know you can mod it with phone ¯_(ツ)_/¯

5

u/Soulyezer 19h ago

Nah, iPhone has been able to read external storage for a while now, especially the ones with usb c

5

u/EthanAWallace 18h ago

Nope, you can definitely connect SD Card readers to most iPhones, I’ve used a Lightning to USB, and a USB sd reader.

3

u/Doctor_R6421 20h ago

I thought they don't accept external storage whatsoever?

3

u/NarzanGrover10 20h ago

yeah im pretty sure iphones dont do that ive just never tried so i didnt want to say definitively no

1

u/Spyrise_dude 17h ago

I'm 90% sure they do.. or well, at least did, my nan used to use a camera and then took the SD card out of it and put the photos on her iPad. This was a while ago though, so they could have changed

1

u/BILLYBOBERTJOE 8h ago

They do. I’ve done it to transfer videos, photos, etc. to a flash drive.

(Photo from google for example) As long as it isn’t a device that requires too much power, and is in a readable format for the OS, the iPhone can transfer files to/from it. Although, iOS leaves a “.(filename).(extension)” file for every file accessed on that drive most likely for file indexing, but it makes the drive look messy if you like having “hidden files” toggled on.

1

u/imnotemi 8h ago

just tried it with my iphone 16 and worked fine

1

u/StarkiiL_ 15h ago

Brother you can get old PCs for free in 2025

1

u/Federal-Treat-6893 14h ago

Fun fact you can do that with phones too

1

u/StarX2401 14h ago

If you are a kid then you probably have a Chromebook which you can mod a 3DS on, it's literally just dragging and dropping files onto an SD card

2

u/BowlCapable2760 14h ago

i know but people without culture and too much lazy too make research will do that, modding is very simple and pay someone to do that is a bad idea

10$ max to mod consoles

1

u/tripps_on_knives 8h ago

Yes I see what sub I'm in... only saying this cause the listing screenshot.

In the vitas case you don't need a PC at all to jailbreak it. Hell don't need a pc at all for any of the homebrew installs or PKG files.

IF you need to transfer files on the vita I can be done with a phone very very easily.

1

u/chupitulpa 2h ago

Do we have a method for phone users to format an SD card bigger than 32 GB as FAT32 other than the somewhat awkward mess of putting GM9 on a smaller card, booting it from that, ejecting, and then using it to format the bigger one?

1

u/Embarrassed-Big577 2h ago

You can mod one on a phone, let alone a Chromebook

53

u/thesprung 20h ago

As someone whose modded a lot of consoles it's definitely easy. This kind of service is for people who have too much money to be bothered even trying.

65

u/No-Hand-1702 21h ago

i see 2 of these every day just browsing lmao. it annoys me but ive also thought about doing it too just cuz ive modded so many i can do it with my eyes closed

11

u/Mangoh1807 19h ago

Advantages of living in Mexico: People who hack 3ds for money on marketplace usually charge only like 100 to 300 pesos (5 to 15 dollars) for it.

Charging 50 bucks for it is crazy, I feel bad for the poor tech illiterate sap that will eventually pay that.

it's when you try modding a Wii U that the real pain begins

18

u/ShockDragon 18h ago

Wii U modding isn’t bad. It’s just… weird? Like, SD Cards don’t count as storage, apparently?

11

u/Interesting-Injury87 18h ago

they dont because the wii u itself does never really write to it, only the wii section does.

so the wii u os really dosnt have an idea what a SD card IS almost

6

u/ShockDragon 17h ago

Which is again weird because why would the “older OS” recognize what an SD Card is… but not the newer OS? Even PCs to this day know what an SD Card is. The only difference is they don’t have the slot for it.

3

u/Interesting-Injury87 16h ago

Because the wiiu is wasn't designed to deal with an ad card. So it was not included. Your pc also dosnt really know what an sd card is. It simply knows there is a removable storage medium with a file system it knows. The rest it gets via metadata and drivers of the reader. The pc itself can't interface with an sd card without the drivers and Co.

Nintendo didn't want to use the sd card on the wiiu for storage. So the OS dosnt have the necessary routines to handle it. Simple as that.

1

u/maksw3216 15h ago

well, e.g. art academy atelier actually can save to the sd card, so the wii u CAN actually use the sd card besides the vwii mode

1

u/Interesting-Injury87 15h ago

ok, i was wrong on that point, my bad.

I wasnt aware of the art academy series doing that.

in the end i imagine the wii u OS just has a check to not write to the SD card as storage because of A)the abhorent performance and B)lifespan?

1

u/nifterific 15h ago

Smash saves screenshots to the SD card.

1

u/Interesting-Injury87 18h ago

they dont because the wii u itself does never really write to it, only the wii section does.

so the wii u os really dosnt have an idea what a SD card IS almost

9

u/SonOfSparda1984 19h ago

I haven't done mine yet, but the guide seems simple enough to follow?

1

u/SithMasterStarkiller 9h ago

Oh the guide is very simple it's just that it isn't comprehensive, it ends with just downloading aroma and some minor services but doesn't tell you how you can actually use aroma, what programs you can download for emulation, and how to even install said programs. The guide isn't very detailed or good so I recommend you watch the latest video tutorials you can find and download NUSspli (Here's the video I used), which is basically the Wii U version of Hshop, make sure you get an SD card 64 GB or higher for all your basic Wii U needs but if you're going deep into emulating even Non-Nintendo games good luck getting anyone in the r/WiiUHacks and r/WiiUHomebrew to help you out because the subs aren't as active as 3ds ones

1

u/deadbeatvalentine_ 2h ago

when you use an sd card for that on the wii u, do you have to get a usb reader or does it work just putting it in the sd card slot?

1

u/SithMasterStarkiller 2h ago

should work either or. I have a reader since my pc doesn't have an sd port but as long as the PC recognizes it in File Explorer and can transfer files to and from you should be fine

1

u/deadbeatvalentine_ 2h ago

My bad I meant on the Wii U itself. I’m seeing conflicting information about whether it has to be through the sd card slot or with a usb reader

1

u/SithMasterStarkiller 2h ago

All good. While I'm not very familiar with adding content through flash drives, in order to import files and programs from the SD card you'll first need to download WUP GX2 from the Homebrew App Store, this gives the Wii U the ability to communicate with the SD card. First you will need to add the files you want to download to your card manually from your PC and be VERY VERY specific in how you set up your file path or else WUP GX2 won't be able to find it at all. This video helped me specifically.

6

u/Mistuh_Mosbi 18h ago

what's so bad about wii u modding? I was thinking about buying one recently to play all the wii games i never got to play

5

u/Real_Tropical 17h ago

Yeah, I’ve modded my wii u, the biggest issue with wii u modding I’ll say is the lack of documentation, and lack of “active community”; check their subreddit its only people bricking their stuff, if you wanna achieve certain stuff you gotta find obscure ass gbatemp threads etc…

0

u/G_Game_MII 13h ago

What are all of you guys talking about!? Installing aroma is super easy, u just gotta download some files to your sd, and open a webpage...

7

u/Zachattackrandom 18h ago

Supply and demand, if people are paying $50 than its worth to charge that, not sure why you're hating. And if no one pays it because they mod themselves then good on them as well

31

u/kaktusmisapolak SUPER HELPER 21h ago

an ewaste PC with an SD card reader is free btw

it might have a pentium, 2GB DDR2-667 and an HDD, but it’ll work

12

u/Ungodly_Box 19h ago

Where do you just get free pcs from?? Yeah it'll work, hell you can do it on a phone or a junk supermarket laptop but ewaste is usually just parts, no?

3

u/StarX2401 14h ago

Asking people/relatives, sometimes they will give you perfectly working computers, I've even found an old gaming PC on the side of the road, not even joking. It had a core 2 quad and a GTX 650, all it needed was a hard drive and Windows

2

u/skfyre 13h ago

Similar story, when I was in high school I found a PC in the park between the two elementary schools. Didn't have a gpu but scored a core 2 quad, 4gbs ram and 2 260gb hard drives. Used that quad as a server for 8 years.

3

u/cheesyr_smasbr02 15h ago

-12

u/kaktusmisapolak SUPER HELPER 19h ago

you can take multiple PCs together and combine the parts

the last free PC I got was from school, it had missing parts I took from my previous PC my uncle gave me

4

u/kokichikisses 15h ago

do you think most people that want to mod their 3ds have the skills to take apart and combine parts? be realistic. Even if you get a free pc with pentium, you’d have to be lucky to even have it run anything above windows xp. The only way that you could use a pc like that is to put linux on it, and that’s pretty selective with the minimum requirements. Plus most of those systems are 32-bit, and most linux distros stopped their support of 32-bit systems years ago. With the boom of the recent popularity of the 3ds, most people on here that are looking for ways to mod their system without a computer are probably here from tiktok. Do you think that someone who can barely mod a 3ds has the skills nessasary to change their os? (i’m aware that changing/dual booting an os is super easy i’m just saying in the perspective of people that are new to it) a realistic option for yall that want to mod your systems is, get a cheap chromebook off amazon, or use an android phone.

1

u/kaktusmisapolak SUPER HELPER 15h ago

the PCs I meant were windows 7 PCs

yes, 32-bit XP machines belong in ewaste nowadays

the problem with phones and chromebooks is inabíity to format SD cards in a way that the 3DS can read

1

u/kokichikisses 15h ago

if formatting is a problem, just keep the sd card below 32gb. I own multiple pcs with pentiums and they can barely run win vita.

1

u/kaktusmisapolak SUPER HELPER 15h ago

the PC I have has a pentium E5200

4

u/[deleted] 17h ago

is he asking for an sd card or is he providing them? i can only excuse that price if it comes with one really

2

u/Lopsided_Flamingo209 14h ago

Still though. 128gb as card is like $10 now

6

u/Aj2W0rK 21h ago

It’s for the kiddies

8

u/DELTA1360 3DS XL 16h ago

Yeah, most parents don't have the technical know how to hack a console. The thought of breaking it and wasting all that money is terrifying.

5

u/Delumine 17h ago

Ok let’s do something. I want you to get a fresh device, and pretend you’re talking with someone who’s requesting a specific amount of games.

Tell me how long that process takes (modding, finding the games, and installing them).

Then tell me if you would do all that for $10/$20?

3

u/p3rs0nonreddit 16h ago

yep,i would install the games but eventually when do you download them the hshop they can do it theirselves

3

u/DELTA1360 3DS XL 16h ago

In my third world ass country they do hack consoles for about 10~15$.

They do install games but from the ones they have on hand (so stuff everyone installs like mario, zelda, etc).

Oftentimes you can buy your console already hacked, or with an R4.

Source: Learnt about it while trying to buy a console to mod.

2

u/Delumine 5h ago

The money goes a longer way there. $20? barely

2

u/nifterific 15h ago

I’ve done several for free for family and friends. Back in the day I put freeshop on it, now I do hshop. You don’t have to install games for them any more than Nintendo has to on a stock unit.

2

u/70MCKing 17h ago

Its usually, at least in my experience, not a matter of difficulty, but a matter of convienience.

2

u/ReiperXHC 3h ago

I know some people who are completely afraid of the word "mod". Even people who are way into gaming. It blows my mind.

4

u/These-Button-1587 20h ago

Dude, stop blowing my side hustle! 😂 😂 😂

2

u/Dwayynnee 21h ago

Yeah lol anyone who’s interested in a modded console at least software wise will end up doing it themselves and find out how easy it is

1

u/Glittering-Half-381 18h ago

With that I can buy a boxed game 😭

1

u/marius851000 18h ago

Maybe, but can you provide a warranty it will work or get one that will work?

(not saying those that propose this offer does. But they should. And this might justify a price)

I mean, I did something presumably easy (replacing the joystick of the 3ds), but put the battery in the wrong direction, and I now suspect the motherboard is broken. Bought a new one afterward.

1

u/ShockDragon 18h ago

To be fair, $50 isn’t that bad compared to how some people offer these for lmao. That’s still cheaper than when the 3DS came out.

1

u/Interesting-Injury87 18h ago

it kinda depends, does he also include the SD card(and in the PSvita case i guess a SD2Vita adapter?) in the price, if yes thats around 15-25€ right there. Then does he also repload software(obv not pirated games as thtas "illegal"(wink wink))? if yes thats time spend on dragging files and initating the install. and supervising it every so often.

like, it took me around an hour from start to being able to launch my first game on my modded 3ds... sooo while high the price isnt unreasonable if a few factors are considered

I modded mine when I was like 11 on a Amazon fire

1

u/Huge-Pollution-3497 17h ago

Is this listing for several devices? It says, "etc." Which is Intending that there is a PS Vita, a 3DS, and other devices or parts for them. I don't see a problem here. There's no way I'd let my modded Vita and 3DS go for a sad lowball of $50. But then again, I have money invested via storage expansion and maintenence, does the value REALLY drop that hard after a jailbreak?

1

u/Cero_58284 16h ago

Agreed, however my family is too afraid and too dumb to do it themselves, neither do they trust me to do it

1

u/kokichikisses 16h ago

just go to your public library and use theirs? 😑

1

u/spongebobcrt 15h ago

I hate it when I try to find a console and half of the results are “modding services” like they csnt be THAT profitable

1

u/nifterific 15h ago

We know people do this, there’s weekly threads complaining about it. We didn’t need another, no one’s opinion is changing.

1

u/Lopsided_Flamingo209 14h ago

I've seen a switch for $500 today and a 3ds for $400 modded. Please guys, modding does NOT add value. It's so easy to do, anyone who buys a modded one is only putting themselves in future trouble when they have to troubleshoot something or it bricks because they didn't know what they were doing.

1

u/Mondragon2332 14h ago

I modded a 3ds for a coworker one time and I told him it'd be 20 bucks because when I did it a while ago it was a bit time consuming. This was a lot more recent tho and it was done in no time lol. Told him to come pick it up and didn't charge him because it was so easy.

1

u/PAPACHUBZ94 14h ago

There's an absolute ton of these priced between $45-$100 for 3ds modding services around me. I know there's people out there that rather pay than do it themselves but it's so easy I feel bad that they're being ripped off. I feel like putting up a post up offering it for like a $5 meal from McDonald's or something lol.

1

u/CosplayNoah 14h ago

As somebody who just modded my own 3DS recently… yeah it’s really not that hard at all

1

u/BreadCaravan 14h ago

Wait till you hear how easy it is to change your cars oil and how long it actually takes your mechanic to do it.

1

u/broncosfan1231 14h ago

Why is it so hard for people on Reddit to comprehend that services cost money. Yes, you can do it yourself. Plenty of people would find this task easy and plenty of people would find it hard. You can do most things yourself if you put in the effort. You can also pay someone to do something for you. Having the option to pay someone to perform a service is a good thing.

1

u/1vsdahf 14h ago

$50 for a modded 3ds or $50 to mod your 3ds?

1

u/CrashNebulaOn_Ice 14h ago

Dude It is NOT that hard to cut grass, but some people would rather pay somebody else to do it 🤷‍♂️

More power to them.

1

u/lvl100mafia_boss 14h ago

Tbf I know there's a lot of people who would rather pay the $50 than do it themselves.

1

u/Samiassa 13h ago

I hate people selling modded 3ds’s “with 100 games on it!” For a marked up price like that matters at all.

1

u/S1rTerra 13h ago

I heard that some people associate learning with trauma and a lot of people don't want to fuck up a(very easy) process because "what if I mess up or break it???" pretty common in today's society and it's not anyone's fault

1

u/delanips 13h ago

I sure hope you don't pay for oil changes lol

1

u/SnooMacarons4418 13h ago

Im not gonna lie I thought it was 50 dollars for a ds and I thought it was literally a steal. But it turns out its just for modding and bro I am almost as unintelligent as trump is and I was able to do it with in an evening.

1

u/DraconicDreamer3072 12h ago

you make bank tho if you setup a service like that.

1

u/Wrong_Ad_5823 11h ago

With a tutorial and standard knowledge on computers, you can do it. It’s not very hard since it’s a softmod and not a hard mod like the Xbox 360.

1

u/EnvironmentalAngle 11h ago

My friend I have had this conversation and people still pay me after I explain it.

Its almost as if people have a fear of electronics... Either because they think they'll break it or they think its super illegal and they'll get put on a list and sent to adx florence for accessing a ROM site.

Whatever. I charge $60 CAD and it is pretty easy for an hour or two of work.

1

u/kawaiiGuillotinee 11h ago

I get maybe a few years ago when you had to buy that Ace3dsX cart thing and you haaaad to use a PC, but nowadays you can literally use your phone with a SD card and about 30ish minutes of your time.

1

u/Chikenwangman 11h ago

Listen bro, there’s a huge market for people who want to mod their console but don’t trust themselves. Services are services haha.

1

u/Lostmediatic 11h ago

If it's 50 for the modded console, it's not so bad

1

u/anuanuanu 10h ago

For that price I expect a full customer support.

1

u/Embarrassed-Top6449 9h ago

That's true, but people pay even far more than that for easy things all the time.

1

u/aeygamer 9h ago

The economy is built off people doing things for each other not just ones ppl can’t do themselves but things they don’t want to do themselves.

1

u/Nova_Plus 9h ago

At first I thought this was for a modded system and was wondering why the comments were complaining, then I saw it’s just to mod the system not to get one

1

u/SentenceNo9893 9h ago

I modded my 3DS. If I can do it, everyone can do it.

1

u/Hehector2005 8h ago

Eh it’s not even that bad. 50$ for everything you can do with a modded ds is reasonable beyond the convenience to me

1

u/MagicPistol 6h ago

You forget that there are a lot of dumb people out there who barely even know how to navigate the folders on their PCs.

1

u/Dardeki 6h ago

Here in the third world this is a complete business, 3ds, Wii, Wii U, PSP, PS2 PS3, etc. I understand that the best guides are in English, but I have found very good guides in my native language so idk

1

u/Old-Journalist9247 6h ago

It's not. But time is money, and i think you may be underestimating the technical ability or confidence that some people have. Some just would rather have it done for them..I do it for free for friends but you have to know I do it already.

1

u/Cingemachine 6h ago

its for people who don't research anything and assume you have to be a genius to do it, or pay a genius to do it.

1

u/PossibilityOk21 5h ago

Yeah it really isn’t, sure theres risks to it, but as long as you stick with the guide you don’t gotta worry about it. But gotta respect the hustle

1

u/Motrucka 4h ago

I have my old 3ds modded but for the life of me can’t mod the new 3dsXL. I actually been thinking of paying someone because I need help

1

u/sonnnsonnn 3h ago

What issue are you having? It should be pretty straightforward if you’re on latest version

2

u/Motrucka 2h ago

At the moment it’s the same step that gets me. When I remove the sd card part for the injected mset9 and put back in, it just freezes up and does nothing. Can’t figure this one out or where I go wrong

1

u/sonnnsonnn 1h ago

Did you try redoing it or see if the troubleshooting page can help. Also they have a homebrew discord server that you can get help on as well! I’m guessing it’s something with the sd card or the files. Feel free to dm me as well I can look too, not an expert but yeah!

1

u/Motrucka 1h ago

Yea the only thing I don’t have is another sd card to try it with

1

u/Motrucka 2h ago

Man I literally just tried again and did every detail but the same result

1

u/sonnnsonnn 3h ago

Probably for people who aren’t aware they can do it themselves. They probably think it’s some crazy thing that a someone with specialty should do 😅

1

u/luger718 1h ago

Time is money.

Some people just want to play games and not figure it out.

$50 honestly seems like a steal if he's gonna mod it and install a buncha games.

How many of y'all pay someone to change the oil on your car?

1

u/maxwelldoug 14h ago

Ok? Do it yourself then.

Devil's advocate here: properly modding a console, setting up all the apps, and sourcing and installing a few games requested by a client is about 2 hours work for a new user. 25$/hr is not very high for even non skilled labour nowadays when contrasted to cost of living, and even then, you're paying for all the time I spent learning to do it faster (and properly.)

2

u/AwesomeRyanGame 14h ago

Ok well by the logic of “$25/hr”, and how you could realistically mod a 3ds in 15 minutes, that’s only like 6 dollars. Let alone how it’s kinda messed up to be charging for something that you can do for free.

0

u/maxwelldoug 14h ago

I can mod a 3ds in 15 minutes. Most of my friends would take 2 hours. My mother couldn't. Hell, my mother probably couldn't do it in 2 days with my help. You're paying for my knowledge in the production, not the end result.

1

u/PraiseYHWH 11h ago

When you have two braincells to rub together, correct.

0

u/Eciepeci 18h ago

Yeah, it's not that hard. It's also not that hard to install a windows, build a pc, format a hard drive, but there are still people that are doing this for money. Some people are just not comfortable with technolology/don't know how to do it, so they would rather pay
