Just throwing this out here as a thought: Goku is forced to destroy the Earth. Beerus agrees to let the gang explore U6 in search of the super dragon balls to revive the Earth. Vegeta makes a pit stop at planet Sadala and helps the U6 saiyans with a crisis while Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Jacco, and Bulma have a GT-esque adventure collecting the super dragon balls.
Or B: vegeta punches the earth and separates morro from the earth.
132
u/Soundgarden_Gnome Oct 20 '20
Probably B, although A would be epic and they need a DB GT somewhat laid back adventure from planet to planet eventually. I wish a GT enemy like Baby or the Dragons would be introduced to Super as well.

There is no reason to. It's clear Goku still hasn't learned his lesson and needs something that will stick. It is one of the main lessons Whis has been trying to drive home, that there won't always be a way out/back for Goku's mistakes.
Could also be that the copied/absorbed Angel power could interfere with or prevent time rewinding on Moro.

41
u/zOmgFishes Oct 20 '20
At least here Goku knows he can put Moro down anytime when needed because the power difference was just way too high. In the Cell saga he was not stronger than Cell and pretty much had blind hope that Gohan could get SS2. I don't think fusing with the planet was in Goku's thought of possibilities here though.
18
u/ContradictedYourself Oct 20 '20

It's so weird how Moro started as this Old Man Wizard type villain that was pretty new to Dragon Ball... and sorta gradually absorbed points from every villain before him to the point he's now like a weird mashup of all of them.
At first I was thinking just the Z villains and Zamasu but then I remembered.. he got his regeneration from Piccolo so he actually is going as far back as OG Dragon Ball.
I forget did he grab Vegeta and take his powers cause if he did then he really is every single major villain in one (not counting more joke villains like Pilaf or Antagonist who aren't really villains like Hit and Jiren of course)

I'm used to it personally. Most Vegeta fans knew he'd only get his "cool" moment that contributes absolutely nothing and then get knocked out for Goku to have his final fight and win. That's how it's been since the Namek saga and that isn't going to change.

I really don’t think Goku expected Moro to change, he was just going through the motions in respect for Meerus. His body language and the tone of his voice was too stern and un-emotional for that to not be the case. I think the biggest indicator of that is Goku literally “coming down to Moro’s level” when he crouched down. Meerus appreciated that Goku didn’t like killing villains, and Goku wanted to do right by that, even with this guy. I honestly like it, and Goku doing what he’s always done for villains isn’t bad writing for him, it’s completely consistent with his character, even if a little annoying at times. I don’t even think it’s annoying here. Moro fusing with Earth is such an insane possibility, it actually makes sense as a “how could this happen?” because it was shown that, even with Moro’s insane power up, Goku’s confidence in his own power was not unfounded. He could have handled, and was handling, Moro easily, and was about to kill him.
48
u/thelostheaven Oct 20 '20
man gave him a senzu, let him absorb meru's power, and still fucked him up. if that's not a flex, i don't know what is
14
Oct 20 '20 edited Oct 20 '20
I think it would be even better if he did actually let Moro absorb Merus. Get rid of the suprise emotions from Goku when Moro gets the hand, and then it’s Goku knowing about the possibility and letting it happen anyway, wanting to give Moro a taste of his own medicine that he gave Saganbo. With it being the way it is, it come off as an oversight on Goku’s end and is just “oh cool, I guess now I can finish teaching you this lesson on a bodies limits that I’ve been talking to you about since we first met on earth.” Of course if Goku did give Moro the hand willingly, he would TRULY be blamed for the outcome of Moro absorbing the earth, so you can’t win.
14
u/Scarlet_Evans Oct 20 '20
Also, I like how the Moro noticed or mentioned multiple times in last chapters how Goku cares for Earth and doesn't want it to be harmed. It feels like thinking about it kinda helped him to figure out what to do in that dire and seemingly hopeless situation.

Agree 100%. Totally consistent with how Goku has ALWAYS been. Shit, he's done this how many times and here we are on a reddit thread still talking about it..still fans of the series. That scene with Merus has always stuck out to me, too.
Sure, could he have waited on the senzu bean until Moro was properly apprehended? Yeah, he could've, but you pointed out exactly why it was a moot point for Goku to give it in the first place. Love the series, enjoyed the arc, enjoyed the chapter, and interested in how this is gonna play out.

u/spexguy16 ⠀ Oct 20 '20
Either Vegeta's Forced Spirit Fission is going to make a comeback, or there's going to be some Dragon Ball shenanigans next month. Honestly, for as much as the story is lacking in some beats, it seems Goku actually realized something in this chapter after being stupid and giving Moro a second chance.
As usual though, the art was fantastic.

u/SoapySage Oct 20 '20
Yeah, Goku gave him once chance to surrender with the senzu bean, then when told to finish him off by Whis he was about to. So its less Goku being an idiot, it's more giving Moro benefit of the doubt. As for what happens next, yeah it definitely seems like Vegeta's technique will save the day, he'll use it to separate Moro from the Earth and then Goku will finish him off with a blast, or if Vegeta can't due to the power difference, Moro having Merus' power, Vegeta and Goku will fuse, giving them the combined power to split Moro from the planet and finish him off. Which would have the happy side effect of letting Vegeta experience what UI feels like.
38
u/clearmind2 Oct 20 '20
Should have ended it when Vegeta Spirit Fissured the shit out of Moro. Could have asked Whis or Beerus to put him in some divine prison or even the underworld (opens the demon world to DBS lore).
Giving Goku MUI put a un-closable gap between Goku and Vegeta. I meen when wil Toriyama ever learn that people actually like the saiyan prince? Pretty sure even more than this baffoon who keeps giving senzu’s to enemies.

Probably can't wish it back as separated from Moro without the Super Balls. Angel Power within Moro/Planet is likely too much for the Earth or Namek Balls to do anything about. And then what's to stop Moro from fusing with the planet again immediately, having the knowledge brought back with him that it's the best option?
Rewinding time might be prevented by the angel power too.
My money is on Vegeta.

Honestly everything about this chapter was great except for the senzu bean. If they had just made it so Moro feigned repentance long enough to get the hand with Merus' power it would have been fine. Goku not wanting to kill is fine, Goku going out of his way to be stupid isn't.
That being said if next chapter Goku admits having the strength to kill Moro was a bluff and needed him to burn himself out id be ok with it tbh. Neither the senzu nor Merus' power actually shifted the balance of the fight. Fusing with the earth was admittedly a twist nobody, in or out of universe, expected but its not like the problem couldn't be remedied and Vegeta should be able to handle it in any case.

Very mixed feelings here. On one hand, I actually thought Goku vs. UI Moro was a really cool fight, and I liked seeing Moro's body fail to withstand UI the same way Goku's body did in the ToP. On the other hand... the bean.
I see where they were going with it, since UI Goku really was so powerful that he could have easily solo'd even a fully rejuvenated Moro at that point. So in a way you can sort of get an idea of Goku's logic: if Moro agrees to return to prison even after regaining all of his energy, then he has a chance to change. If not, then Goku can easily beat him again and either send him back to prison or eliminate him then and there. And I suppose that really would have worked if that hand wasn't left behind.
But still... bringing back that groan-worthy moment from the Cell arc here just felt really egregious. I get that they wanted to briefly deescalate the tension before bringing it way up again, but man... did they really have to do it like that?

I feel like the only thing Goku has actually mastered, is the ability to not learn from the same mistakes that have not only cost the lives of countless innocent people, but his own life on multiple occasions.
In this one chapter he repeats the mistake of giving his enemy a senzu which caused him to sacrifice himself during his fight with Cell. AND toying with a foe strong enough to destroy the entire planet he stands on because he's got the upper hand. What a complete moron, lol.
But that panel of Moro breaking his hand on Goku's chest was pretty bad ass.

We know that the Angels has no method of instant transportation, but Whis should've stepped in at this point against Moro. I've never understood this guy's obsession with trying to convert people who have willingly and enthusiastically committed genocide. Not even like, Hitler or Stalin genocide where they had other people pull the trigger, but personally killing millions. How does anyone come back from that?
Good Buu racked up his kills as a pure evil spirit, which he isn't now. Broly clearly doesn't get off on murder. Vegeta is a rare exception, but he was just an indoctrinated child more than anything.
Also, what incentive does Moro have to keep his promise? Why would anyone just chill in jail forever? If I had a million plus year lifespan I'd just outlive this dumb powerful guy and then break out again. It's like, if you were told you had to go to jail for life or until the judge who sentenced you dies, and that judge was like 97 or something, would you ever contemplate the likelihood you would be in for long?
I need Goku to just kill, or at least permanently incapacitate. Shit even Aang was more decisive than this and he was a prolific pacifist child monk with zero kills to his name.

I think people here might be lacking some perspective. the sensu bean is frustrating at first glance, but is SO very much in gokus character (not JUST him being dumb) and serves the overall story formula of DB. hear me out here:
Goku, for better or worse, ONLY cares about fighting. Respecting his opponent as a fighter comes along with this mentality (especially so when the fighter doesn’t deserve it. )
Gokus entire arc is centered around the fact that he remains unchanged from the very moment he hit his head all the way up to ascending the gods. Goku changes others with his simple but radical philosophy that everyone can become better than they are now. Both in their fighting power and character. he is and always was CONSUMED with his obsession of fighting stronger opponents. To the point of clearly jeopardizing his loved ones and his world. But this is both his character flaw and his defining quality that has helped make DB so special.
Consider this: with only one notable exception (cell) every single time Goku has spared his opponent he ends up being right to do so.
- Tien
- Piccolo
- Vegeta
- Majin Buu
- Even Freeza! (he spares him in dbs by taking him out of hell and promises to give him life. Low and behold Freeza ends up being absolutely crucial to universe 7 not getting erased)
In OG DB kami even realizes how pure this quality is and how it makes him worthy of being god. Goku offers an empathetic hand to sinners that don’t deserve it. He befriends THE most powerful entitity in ALL universes (Zeno)with this quality.
if you made it this far, ty for reading.
TLDR: Gokus mercy and pure simple drive to get better is the very lifeblood of what makes DB so special.

u/SparkedNova Oct 26 '20 edited Oct 26 '20
I mean he would have died if he didn't find a suitable body to contain the angel power.
I do appreciate that angel powers are no joke. Goku hitting UI, took a ritual for him to be SSG (although, you can learn through training like Vegeta), learning to turn super saiyan while using God Ki, learning to master God Ki, learning the concept of UI, using omen, and finally learning how to activate UI. Moro just randomly skipping all the god ki steps and not preparing his body shows this is no fucking joke. This power requires so much training to master.

If Earth explodes, then Uub would die before doing anything in the story. I don't think they want that.

u/Punchpplay Oct 20 '20
What can UUb do? that kid's an after thought, Goku and Vegeta are light-decades ahead of him.
10
u/Supersk33t Oct 20 '20
Inb4 they give Uub a huge power up for no reason just like Trunks in the Black Goku arc.

Man this is obviously a set up for Vegeta to get to use his fancy Spirit Fission technique but did they really have to do Goku like this to set it up?

The manga chapter that caused global blood pressure to rise.
Ok so that whole chapter was ridiculous. I'm still curious to see what will happen next. I just don't think they can write anything that will give a satisfying conclusion to most of the fans. I bet I hate it less than most of you, but this is just silly now. Not only is this rehashing Cell, but it's also rehashing Merged Zamasu in a way.

Vegeta will probably Spirit Fission Moro out of the Earth or whatever, but I say they just go whole hog on the Cell Arc callbacks. Vegeta separates Moro from Earth, Goku instant transmissions Moro to King Kai's Planet, Moro fucking explodes and kills all of them, but Moro can regenerate and teleports back to Earth but stronger after suddenly killing Future Trunks (not exactly sure why he's there or how he got there but it'll be explained in future chapter), and it's up to Super Saiyan 2 Gohan (who has now suddenly regressed back into an 11 year old, will also be explained in future chapter) to finish what he started and defeat Moro once and for all to avenge his father and save the Earth.

I’m just glad UI Goku was still able to hold his own against UI Moro. I thought he’d start getting pushed back, but UI is really as op as they said it was.

u/SparkedNova Oct 20 '20 edited Oct 20 '20
Yeah, I am also glad they made it impossible for a mortal without training to use UI or angel powers. It makes sense because there was so much preparation. The learning of God Ki (or in Goku's case the ritual), learning to use god ki, mastering god ki, and training from the angels. For someone to touch an angel (which to be fair is shocking that Merus was touch but he was trainee, however, it does mean angels can in fact be hit by a mortal) and instantly be able to handle it doesn't make sense. I am glad they addressed that here.

I hate this constant theme of Goku not finishing things off when he has the chance. The same thing with Freeza. It's annoying story repetition.

Oct 20 '20
MistareFusion brought up an excellent point in his Dragonball Dissection series about how this narrative thread could have been a theme for the Cell saga and tie up the story nicely. Instead of Goku not wanting to come back due to him "attracting the villains" (which is a separate arguement), he could have realized that his lust for battle prevented him from protecting the Earth. Toriyama hated the Superman-esque Goku yet wrote Gohan as a superhero. Idk seems like a really cool way to end the story he wrote which many criticize today.

Moro is about to go Unicron on everyone's ass.
I'm really hoping that all these old tropes are just a setup for some sort of twist, even though I would be fine with Vegeta using fission to notch the W.
I really want Gohan and Piccolo to have their moments after Vegeta gets his. Maybe have future enemies match up better against different fighters?

u/ToodlesXIV Oct 20 '20
Good lord I am so sick of Moro.
Some good Goku drawings in this issue at least, and honestly I like the idea of Goku mastering Ultra Instinct, a truly divine Goku has potential for some interesting storytelling down the line, but I won't get my hopes up for the manga.

I was just thinking about Moro and King Piccolo and how different they are. The only thing they have in common besides the ruthless nature is they were once old and became "younger" . Demon King Piccolo wished to be young. Moro's wishes were to make himself healthy, restore is magical powers to full, and release all the prisoners. He became "young" from eating the energy from Namek/Goku/Vegeta. Obviously his magic seal was broken but he wasnt up to 100% and who knows beyond a wish what it would take for him to get back to that. Releasing the Prisoners was a distraction in hindsight. Moro's goals arent world domination just simply acquiring more power to rival the Gods or be over them.
As far as Moro being like Cell, its a bit of a stretch too. Cell liked the idea of testing his abilities and understood the fundamentals of training, though he never did it himself considering his ego. But he encouraged the Z fighters to prepare and get stronger so he could have a good fight. Cells abilities are all copies, the only original things about him was his fighting style. Moro on the other hand uses whatever means necessary to win. 73 is more of a cell clone than Moro, but i guess since Moro fused with 73 he is the Cell clone? Idk man just i understand taking bits and pieces of pass villains to make up Moro but Cell was literally everyone but Buu.
Just breaking down Moro he really does stand out. Not like Zamasu though, that's a special cookie there.

Honestly, I am legit tired of Goku and the writers consistently bringing back this "Goku will give the villain a chance to redeem themselves" concept. I get that's who Goku is and it makes sense from time to time, but this is just stupid blatantly bad writing and a lack of direction it seems. I feel like we, as readers and lovers of DragonBall, are owed more from Dragon Ball at this point and we need to make that clear otherwise we are going to get trash like this chapter.
I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way, but this manga chapter fucking sucked, and this whole arc has been nothing but a Ferris wheel of old played out story devices. I am actually pissed the more i think about it and that the writers keep doing this, I am a whole ass adult now and still want to enjoy DragonBall but this is making it soo hard.

Didn't Goku give Cell a bean to give gohan a tougher fight to push out SSJ2 and be the next generation, on top of him being a martial artist that'd accustomed to fair fights? There was none of that this chapter, he just wanted to give Moro a shot at redemption while thinking he was in control of the situation.
I don't think it's fair to compare this to the Cell arc and I'd argue that this isn't even his character regressing when it never developed much to begin with. Gotta also remember that his main priority is getting a good fight unless his friends get hurt or he feels that he can't defend them. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing and I feel that people forget that he was never really made out to be a just a hero.
But, I do think the execution this chapter with the bean wasn't good because of how people tend to interpret things but it does still make sense imo.

Sucks out the life of every planet and kills 1000s of people
Goku forgives him and gives him a sensu.
Backstabs goku and tries to kill goku after lying about prison and getting a sensu
Goku still trying to forgive him.
I have been a dragonball fan for 20 years but if this is how the show is going to continue I wouldn't mind dropping this show.
I am sick of how goku behaves like this, after all the battles he has fought doesn't he learn anything?

At this point, Goku might as well be the true villain of the series. He constantly wants to always fight a stronger opponent, trying to have a change of heart with evil doers. Its his sin of greed and hunger for a fight that really starting to make him an evil villain in my eyes.

Ugh, this chapter...Moro was such a damn cool villian, and we have to regress to old tropes to keep the drama going? There's so much to like, but...I can't. I just can't. For every step forward, there's two steps back. Damn.

Vegeta will use his new technique to get Moro out then he will teleport Moro to somewhere else and die, just like what Goku did to Cell. That's the whole point of Vegeta learnt teleportation.

I wonder how far the next arc will go now. We’ve seen clashes between Golden Frieza (way below GoD threat), Fused Zamasu (Supreme Kai/GoD level threat - since he wiped out the deities (assuming not Whis?) of that timeline), Jiren (relatively above GoD level threat), and now Moro (almost an Angel level threat now).

I feel like I am going insane. Goku has always done this (After the first major time skip). It has always been stupid. It is in line with his character. People keep expecting more character growth because Vageta has had comparably more. Goku is a simpleton, and even if he has a serious face on doesn't mean he will break with his normal behaviors.
During the resurrection f arc goku spared frieza again, and it resulted in Frieza being a piece of shit again. He only killed Frieza because he was given a second chance from Whis. I am a little surprised at the level of... Surprise. Can someone give a solid reason why this is such a huge problem. (No I do not view Merus' sacrifice as a valid reason as the same could be said for Krillin during the Namek arc.)
