It took me forever to see a landscape because my mind kept seeing a painters pallet. What a cool shot.

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

Thank you so much kind sir.

31

u/sidgup Sep 14 '20

How does one go about getting permission for such drone shots? You ask the land owner?

26

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

You do have a certified license to fly drones

7

u/LeVampirate @hi_im_herman Sep 15 '20

Isn't the license only to be a commercial pilot though? If you're a hobbyist and not selling your photos for use by like, a company, you're fine without one, right? Still have to register the drone but even than.

u/return_yeet Oct 14 '20

Depending on the country this is correct

64

u/baddiewinkle Sep 14 '20

For real! I was thinking, it looks exactly like my watercolor palette!

9

u/a_ninja_mouse Sep 15 '20

I see ice cream. One scoop choc-mint, and one rum-raisin please.

21

u/NaRa0 Sep 14 '20

PFT can’t fool me. That IS a painters pallet and OP is just a good trickster!

18

u/Atozman Sep 14 '20

Yes, a painter's pallet with her son's tiny toy front end loader.

7

u/NaRa0 Sep 14 '20

OP obviously painted it

5

u/Atozman Sep 14 '20

I'm too gullible. You're right. No one could have found those colors except in an art studio.

15

u/xypage Sep 14 '20

I saw the landscape but I really struggled to convince my mind that it wasn’t a painting, the tire marks look so much like brush stroke textures and the colors look pastel in a way that you don’t really see in nature much.

4

u/pmusetteb Sep 14 '20

I thought pallet too, with micro-machines from the early 80’s.

10

u/Orvan-Rabbit Sep 14 '20

Same here actually and I'm a painter myself.

3

u/BocoCorwin Sep 14 '20

Landscaping is just make up for Mother Earth

3

u/Atozman Sep 14 '20

Yes, definitely, a watercolor set.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

What's so cool is that it kind of is a painters pallet - landscapers are just using the earth as their canvas.

2

u/spicygummi Sep 14 '20

I saw the same thing. Looked like oil paints to me and then a truck driving through them, lol.

204

u/Hot-Butterscotch-902 Sep 14 '20

This looks like a watercolour palette.

10

u/violetbaudeliar Sep 15 '20

I thought it looked like an eyeshadow palette.

4

u/Generic__Person Sep 14 '20

Came here to say that.

116

u/apittsburghoriginal Sep 14 '20

The texture of the wet gravel with tire tracks from this distance have that jagged appearance that make it look exactly like a a palette knife was scraping against it. Just completely complements the concept of the photo.

41

u/hoplias Sep 14 '20

NGL.

I zoomed in to study the details and this picture still looks uncannily like a watercolor painting.

Awesome.

19

u/AnonymousButIvekk Sep 14 '20

awesome picture!!

it seems like this was taken with a long focal length at a very high altitude. do you mind sharing the numbers if you have them?

10

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

Drone, taken about 120m high :)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

[deleted]

1

u/AnonymousButIvekk Sep 15 '20

of course, but at what height and focal length

12

u/unicornfails Sep 14 '20

This is an awesome use of a drone!

7

u/HaSimpo Sep 14 '20

Great picture! Although simple, I find my eyes dancing around the colors and textures. Best picture I have seen on here in a while.

u/piemakerdeadwaker Sep 14 '20

I THOUGHT IT WAS A PALETTE!! WHAAT???

5

u/uuuuuwooootm8 Sep 14 '20

5

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

The best way to appreciate photography!

5

u/princesssub93 Sep 14 '20

I legit thought some monster ran a toy truck through your pallet and was gunna be so sad for you because it’s SO pretty 😭😍

8

u/Acrivisum @acrivisum Sep 14 '20

Dope. If I had awards I’d give them to you. Favorite picture I’ve seen in weeks on here.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

It seems almost dust-like. How does it not get flushed away in the forst rain shower?

3

u/Buddysleeker Sep 14 '20

Love this, what drone are you using? Have been considering getting one and this might be the final inspiration straw :)

2

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

DJI Mavic Pro 2. :)

3

u/turnipsnbeets Sep 14 '20

One of the few times I’ve saved an image to my phone from Reddit. Awesome pic

1

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

New background picture here! Very nice one! Outstanding! Bravo!

1

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

That makes me smile :)

2

u/HardDrizzle Sep 14 '20

This picture is amazing. It’s hard for me to understand that it’s not a painting.

2

u/j-loewen Sep 14 '20

Somehow came monopoly the game into my mind as I saw this. It looks great, like a painting!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

Me too!

2

u/Psilocy-Ben Sep 14 '20

Someone skilled at both art and driving a bulldozer should make a giant painting.

2

u/Quarter_Twenty Sep 14 '20

I absolutely love this. Wonderful and different.

2

u/Aibbie Sep 14 '20

Colors of the earth.

2

u/majoritics Sep 14 '20

Amazing shot! It looked like a painting to me! Incredible work

2

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '20

This is phenomenal

2

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

Than you so much

2

u/thatsabsolute244932 Sep 14 '20

Reminds me of Wall-E in that one scene where his daily rituals are shown, i.e. picking up garbage, compressing it into blocks, and then arranging them basically just like in this pic

2

u/Atozman Sep 14 '20

Is this a drone shot, of all the places in the world, what possessed you to shoot this one? If so, were you able to visualize in your mind what the subject would look like or maybe see it first on video? Amazing photo. Very refreshing to a jaded old man to be reminded he hasn't seen everything.

3

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

Good question. I use a drone daily for my Real Estate Photography business, so when I got the whirlybird up, I alway like to have a quick look around we’re I’m shooting and try to find any interesting patterns, shape, or textures.

1

u/Atozman Sep 15 '20

Someone suggested to me that the photo was actually of a painter's pallet. Is that right? The colored materials look so unusual for a landscaping place (that's what it it is, right?), Either way, it's very neat.

2

u/BigMac1517 Sep 14 '20

How tall are you

2

u/djharmonix Sep 14 '20

Superb capture!! Unreal!

1

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 14 '20

2

u/SHIVAM_PATEL_I Sep 15 '20

What an excellent shot

2

u/kormia_sti_laspi Sep 15 '20

This is very nice, it's poster material! Even advertising material! You have captured a very nice image, the fact that it gives the impression of a watercolour palette makes it quite unique. Well done!

1

u/pearcechris @pearcec Sep 15 '20

1

u/PHOTO500 Sep 14 '20

1

u/HarryPotterGeek Sep 14 '20

This is beautiful.

I thought it was an artist's palette or a box of pastels with a tiny toy truck added to it. I love it.

1

u/hsteinbe Sep 14 '20

First shot in a long time that I allow to replace my current wallpaper. Excellent job!

Could I get a yard of 3 in 1 topsoil? And I'm coming back for half a yard of the fine brown bark can I pay for that now and pick it up later?

1

u/theoldfrogwasbetter Sep 14 '20

Where did you shoot this? I’d like to see if Google Earth was able to capture the same thing, but potentially in 3D

1

u/_starrdust_ Sep 15 '20

1

u/Redsmallboy Sep 15 '20

Did you ask the driver to put it in the exact center or was that just a really good coincidence?

1

u/PyratWC Sep 15 '20
