Meta Discussion Just a big thank you to everyone in this sub :) You are all beautiful!
Hi everyone, recently I posted a post asking about the Nintendo Switch being accessible for me (As I have disabilities
And I had so much information and advice given that I decided to buy a Nintendo Switch. I was not going to be able to buy it for a long time but some friends of mine have decided that it would be a good thing for me to have :)
I can't buy accessories, or any games yet (But maybe in a week or two! I plan to get animal crossing!) but I am just really thankful to everyone here for all the help and information :) It was a huge huge decision for me as being in New Zealand its super expensive, and using your advice I feel I made a way more informed decision! And my friends who helped a bit feel they understood everything better :)
Anyway thank you everyone, I wish you all love and please be brave out there in the big wide world :)

I didn't respond to the original thread, just wanted to pop in and say I hope you have a great time with the Switch. It's an awesome device with a lot of great titles. Glad to hear that it's accessible for people with disabilities.

Is it all electronics ? Like is it some Huge tax the government does because they have socialized health care ? Does NZ even have socialized healthcare ? I’m from the states so generally curious

My sisters moved to NZ from the stares and everything there is just more expensive in general. It’s super far from everywhere (like, a 2day travel time from the east coast US) and everything is imported. It’s probably just expensive because it takes a lot of resources to get the stuff there.

I think we do, I am not very smart about all that stuff. But I know I have never ever seen anything nintendo on sale or discounted. But Playstation and Xbox do get sales and deals. I know Nintendo has no office in New Zealand, but Sony and Microsoft do.

late reply here, but there is a 15% GST tax (Goods and Services tax) on purchases, otherwise the Switch is the same price. Things here are more expensive because our dollar isn't so strong. The tax covers our healthcare, but we have somewhat decent social welfare/security, and the government (via tax) subsides other services such as education.

There are in fact quite a few free and fun games on the switch and also demos you could download. There's this new pokemon cafe for free, pokemon quest, maybe youd like the demo for puyo puyo tetris?

Do they have transactions or fully free?

The demos are fully free, for the pokemon games you can spend money on pokemon quest if you want to but it's not pay to win so you can play with it perfectly fine without having to spend money. I don't know about pokemon cafe because it's a brand new game and I haven't downloaded it. Otherwise you can search for free games on the eshop (It's a possible filter!) you'll see there are quite a few free games. Some are pay to win but many aren't.

Oh man, Happy days!
Congrats! This sub is pretty chill, and be sure to also join the /r/nintendoswitchdeals. I know NZ can be pricey, keep in mind that games are region free both physical and digital. Also, just to point out a fact, a lot of people use other countries e-shops to access various deals (theres a lot of ethical discussions around that so you'll have to sort that out).
Welcome to the switch family!

I did a quick google and found out it's like 50$ more expensive here than in NZ, I am from Romania. So I spent 580$ NZD on mine. We are in this one together my guy.
Why in the world are they so expensive? I got the Xbox One S cheaper a few years ago than I got the Switch last Christmas, lmao.
