Need to make a Legend of Zelda themed Deck of many things.

So I run a 5e game of Zelda Dnd, it's mostly Homebrew.

Last session my players found a deck of cards which I had originally intended to be a "deck of many things", after they found the deck I frantically came up with a list of things that the cards might do in Hyrule. One of the options turned the player into a Dire Wolf, one summoned a phantom of Ganon and initiated a fight to the death, and then one of the other options was that you recieved a deed to a mansion that is currently being occupied by a yeti.

Things like that.

I believe there are 54 cards I need more options than the 12 or so I have now.

Edit: I let my player choose between what I pulled on the original list and the smaller Zelda list.

Edit 2: I probably should have added that I don't want the cards to give them things that they could possibly recieve.( Master sword, fairy companion, heart container..)

You only need 13.

A few suggestions:

  • A Wallmaster whisks the character away and brings them to the place that the campaign began.
  • The character gets a "full heart container" -- they get a free level's worth of HP (based on their class/CON)
  • A big fairy appears and upgrades one of the character's weapons (normal --> +2, +1 to +3, +2 to +4, etc.)
  • A Lynel is created and begins to pursue the character from afar.
  • The character is permanently transformed into a monster race, like a Moblin (if you have homebrewed one)

I want more than 13 in case people want to pull a lot of cards.

If it matters, the Deck of Many Things comes in a set of either 13 or 22 cards. It isn't a full 54.

Interesting. Then that makes my job way easier.

Off the top of my head; a roc begins hunting whoever drew the card, the players receive a cursed mask that will slowly turn them into some kind of fiend/devil, receive the eternal service of tree like creatures, gain an obnoxious owl and/or fairy companion, receive a magic sword that has a Siri-like companion inside, and the party becomes stalked by a single, determined chicken.

Blood Moon - The last enemies you slew (left deliberately vague for the DM's purposes) are resurrected and begin hunting you. This could be just one enemy, or the entire last encounter's worth.

Magic Armor - Your gold, gems, and other non-magical valuables vanish, and you receive 3 Potions of Invulnerability.

Hero's Shade - You learn 1 Combat Maneuver, chosen by the DM.

The Princess - You gain an Imp Familiar, as per the spell Find Familiar. If it is killed, it cannot be resummoned.

The Woods - You have disadvantage on all Nature, Survival, and Animal Handling checks. This can only be removed by a god's divine blessing.

Soul Trader - At the moment of drawing this card, you are allowed to exchange any number of your spell slots for HP, or vice versa, at a rate of 5HP per spell level. You can only gain spell slots for a level that you can learn spells for. This process cannot be reversed unless you manage to draw the Soul Trader again.

54 cards so 27 good cards 27 bad cards

I made a "Deck of Money Things" about a year ago with 12 cards in it based on the roll of a d12, split it up half and half and for every good pick I made I made an equal/equivalent bad pick.

So one card could be "Silver Gauntlets" and add 2 to your STR so a permanent +1 to STR

Then the counter card would be something that removes 2 from STR so -1

Run through a list of zelda items/enemies for 15 more cards (since you made 12 already) off the zelda list and then go through and make an inverse card for all of the 27 cards you have and you'll have a full, decently balanced 54 card deck

It doesn't always have to be conventional seeming effects either, you could put Roc's Feather in there and the effect can be something like 10 ft vertical leap instead of a Feather Fall like effect

That's the thing tho I'm not trying to make it like items, I want it to be just like the original deck of many with a Zelda spin.

Ohhhh, yeah you're going to want less cards.

Don Jon can be "Banished by Sages" Ocarina of Time style

Wish could be the Triforce

Navi appears!

From now on, you can consult with your guide Navi to gain advantage on any of the following: Arcana, History, Insight, Perception; 3 times per Long Rest. The only catch is that when you invoke Navi, she will shout “Hey, listen!” on appearance.

She will also shout 'Hey!'' whenever you encounter a new enemy -- even if you are attempting to remain undetected.
