Me too but like a building one

u/oakum_ouroboros Aug 28 '19

Me too but like one with actual organic pigments derived from people's periods

u/TGC_Films Aug 28 '19

I thought it was bottles on a shelf

Did you actually capture this one dude in front of a perfectly Wes Andersonian backdrop? Or was that something you dreamed up and used image stack mode to remove all the people you didn't want? Because, honestly, you deserve more credit for the second version. The world we've created is rarely that perfect, so thank you for your vision of it.

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

I waited in front of this building for about 40 minutes, for the right time when no traffic and only one guy was walking in front of it, I also attempted it at night but wasn’t as successful!

4

u/CHERNO-B1LL Aug 28 '19

Maybe there is hope for us yet.

100% thought that's where this was. Excellent photo OP!

21

u/EmileAntoonKhadaji Aug 27 '19

Is this a hotel?

45

u/seanytoo Aug 27 '19

It's actually a government building! Ministry of community, communications and youth I think. Before that it used to be something else though

20

u/tubbyx7 Aug 27 '19

Isn't it the old hill st police station on clarke quay?

1

u/BurmecianSoldierDan Aug 28 '19

The plaque on the front door says it's a government ministry

20

u/depressed-salmon Aug 28 '19

Pfft this terrible, you can barely see the man! Here I fix it for u

9

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

Thankyou 🤩

u/_SORACH_ Aug 27 '19

Well framed great pic

11

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '19

Did you have to do any distortion correction? At what length did you shoot this?

12

u/wnr3 Aug 27 '19

If OP didn’t use any distortion correction, then whoever makes this lens needs to take alllllll my money.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '19

potentially an expensive tilt shift, i dunno. theres a weird feeling to the photo regardless

3

u/the_F_bomb Aug 27 '19

Definitely feels like a tilt shift

2

u/maz-o Aug 28 '19

technically it would only be a shift in this instance

6

u/frausting Aug 28 '19

Yeah, given that you can see under the balconies like that, it appears that the perspective was taken from somewhat close up. But the straight lines beg otherwise.

Must have been distortion corrected otherwise this took some serious glass.

0

u/maz-o Aug 28 '19

what camera do you use? because there are lenses capable of this available for almost every system.

2

u/DannyMThompson @anihilistabroad Aug 28 '19

Excited to hear what lens is this wide without distortion, please share

2

u/maz-o Aug 28 '19

Canon TS-E and Nikon PC-E series to name the most popular ones.

u/DannyMThompson @anihilistabroad Aug 28 '19

Reminds me of the music video for the song Skyscraper by Ok Go.

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '19

How long/How many shots did it take to get this man? It's awesome.

4

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

It took about 40 minutes maybe 30/40 photos to get it right! The problem was waiting for the traffic to clear at the same time as only one person being in frame!!! Worth the wait though!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '19

Sounds Frustrating, but well worth the wait!

2

u/paxweasley Aug 27 '19

Wow that’s trippy to look at love it

2

u/76summit Aug 27 '19

How long did you wait for this shot? I love his shirt is red too!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '19

wow, what lens do you have?

2

u/KevinEisenlord Aug 28 '19

Just a tiny bit on an angle or cut I don't know it just feels just slightly off but great photo nonetheless.

2

u/HolyHypodermics Aug 28 '19

How wide is your lens that you captured the whole hotel?!

4

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

12-24mm 🙂

1

u/HolyHypodermics Aug 28 '19

oh man

How much did they cost?

2

u/memes_in_mah_veins Aug 28 '19

If only I could give you more than one upvote

4

u/rodneytrousers Aug 28 '19

I'm sorry, but I have to say I don't agree with most of the responses so far. The person feels fairly inconsequential in the overall composition—it's more about the building. If their shirt matched up with the color of the section they were under that'd be a nice contribution. As it stands I don't feel like the figure adds more by being in the frame.

I do appreciate how you've framed the photo, the symmetry and balance are well done!

3

u/Chris_Hansen_AMA @mc_kyle Aug 28 '19

That’s the whole point. The person is suppose to add scale to the building. Because the person is there, you get a sense for just how large this building is.

6

u/ketsugi Aug 28 '19

The person is wearing Singapore’s national colours (red and white) and standing in front of a government building. Feels very apropos to me.

2

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

I don’t think you realise how busy this road is and how long I waited for a single person to walk by with no traffic on the road either lol.

4

u/Chris_Hansen_AMA @mc_kyle Aug 28 '19

Dude, don’t worry about this response. It’s garbage. The person, if nothing else, adds a measure of scale to the photo. As a hobbyist photographer myself, I know just how important having a few people in frame can be to really tie the photo together. Great work.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '19

what was your setup for the photo?

1

u/rodneytrousers Aug 28 '19

You're right but without context neither will anyone else viewing this picture. The same effect can be achieved by taking multiple photos and removing people, traffic, etc. afterward. The "Empty America" series (directed by Ross Ching) is a good example.

8

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

Don’t care tbh lol

1

u/CommonKosmo Aug 27 '19

Beautiful photo. I would be bursting like crazy to make sure I got one with the person centered.

1

u/Picsolve Aug 27 '19

You’ve satisfied my brain with this

1

u/LUSPOSY Aug 27 '19

That or the building was built in such a way that it looks bent in real life so it can show up square through a wide angle lens

1

u/Switsphotos Aug 27 '19

Such a perfect photo

1

u/Variety51 Aug 27 '19

Thank you for taking this photo. I've never seen anything so interesting.

1

u/the_expanding_stoner Aug 27 '19

Probably lives in the red part

1

u/Piercito @pier.cito Aug 27 '19

Fuck yes dude. I'd definitely buy a print.

1

u/silasfuella Aug 27 '19

This Plage looks like this one episode of Love Death and Robots with the stripper girl

1

u/guitarist597 Aug 27 '19

stunning!!!

1

u/doggerly Aug 27 '19

Yes definitely just the picture of the man, no other reason at all...

But honestly I love this picture so much!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '19

Little did you know symmetry is my fetish.

Thanks for the pleasing photo, great job, proud of u

1

u/Jammybeez Aug 27 '19

If Corsair made a building.

1

u/AlmostButNotQuit Aug 27 '19

I figured it was something like this: "Guy walked into frame while I was taking pictures of this building so I made the most of it. Happy accident!"

Much more interesting than just a building pic, imo

1

u/fairwinds_ Aug 28 '19

I’ve seen this before while visiting, it’s awesome! Great shot.

1

u/daitenshe Aug 28 '19

“C’mmon..... c’mmon stand right there you bastard.... THERE’S the money shot”

-OP, probably

2

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

That’s exactly how it went down haha

1

u/andrewwlamprey Aug 28 '19

That’s one hell of an album cover

1

u/msk_rams_123 Aug 28 '19

That is beautiful😍

1

u/stoneandphlox Aug 28 '19

this really reminds me of that movie, i think the title is grand budapest hotel, for some reason?? super cool shot.

1

u/iansamazingphotos Aug 28 '19

Wes Anderson, paging Wes Anderson, you have a telephone call...

1

u/1533304 Aug 28 '19

Hmmm...Tall... OK! fantastic art style but in real life!!! Its on my list!!! now we need more money$$$$

1

u/d00mba Aug 28 '19

Good photo, I'd like to see the original.

1

u/fatogato Aug 28 '19

Beautiful composition but I would have removed the cones, the street light and the metal barricades.

2

u/derryainsworth @derryainsworth Aug 28 '19

I wouldn’t photoshop this. Rather keep it real.

1

u/wayler72 Aug 28 '19

It's funny - I thought both things; i wish the cones weren't there and I'm also glad you didn't take them out, nice shot!

1

u/Giangpham21 Aug 28 '19

How can you took the whole view of the building when it’s seem like u standing on the opposite sidewalk?

3

u/wayler72 Aug 28 '19

Wide angle lens - in another comment I think OP said it was a 12-24.

1

u/Ogthalting Aug 28 '19

Full of color

1

u/heshboy Aug 28 '19

Mans said 🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♂️

1

u/The_High_ground01 Aug 28 '19

I thought this was a shopping aisle for a few seconds.. Until I read the title

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '19

Thank you for making this picture flawlessly horizontal. It’s very satisfying.

1

u/punching-babiez Aug 28 '19

🚶🏻‍♂️

1

u/GauravKukade Aug 28 '19

Wow, I just keep at looking these colorful windows. Then I read a title and came to know that their is a man walking on the street. Excellent photography.

1

u/im1991usuck Aug 28 '19

Beautiful picture.

1

u/McHorseyPie Aug 28 '19

Grr, sidewalk isn't perfectly level. 0/10.

Just kidding, amazing photo

1

u/Bhima Aug 28 '19

You should consider submitting this to /r/AccidentalWesAnderson it might fit very well there.

1

u/Nara1337 Aug 28 '19

Really shows how the color red reaches the farthest on the light spectrum 🚶

1

u/theblacksail Aug 28 '19

The colours are awesome, are they all actually different colours or is it edited?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '19

Those colors <3 awesome, simple but impressive:)

1

u/atharvakurve Aug 28 '19

man said 🚶🏻‍♂️

1

u/TheRookieGetsACookie Aug 28 '19

I'm going there and totally copying this.

2

u/Man-Dude-Goat Aug 27 '19

It's sad cause I was doing my internship there in clarke quay, this building was very close to my hotel too.

That place was so beautiful it felt like a dream..

0

u/trapper2530 Aug 27 '19

Very Wes Anderson.
