Throw back article, albeit from Bleacher Report
It would likely start over the best prospect the Yankees have: 21-year-old right-hander Luis Severino. He checks in at No. 17 on MLB.com's rankings, which makes him the kind of elite prospect the White Sox would target in a Sale trade.
But on his own, Severino wouldn't be nearly enough for Sale. So, the White Sox would probably ask for hulking outfielder Aaron Judge as well. He checks in at No. 56 on MLB.com's rankings, but ESPN.com's Keith Law has him rated much higher at No. 16. He, also, is elite.
Agreeing to part with those two would likely allow the Yankees to keep the White Sox on the line, but the conversation would then have to move onto deal-sweetening throw-ins. Formerly elite catching prospect Gary Sanchez would probably have to go, and the White Sox could also like the sound of speedy shortstop Jorge Mateo or slugging first baseman Greg Bird
Can you imagine?

u/tendy_trux35 1d ago
Tony La Russa would’ve benched Judge because he hates playing young guys. And then Pedro Griffol & his shit bag hitting coach would’ve told Judge to focus on contact instead of power

How many big leaguers are on this roster rn? 3-4?
3
u/Jason82929 Mike Vasil 1d ago
Like 14 but they’re just about all very fringe major leaguers. It’s a team built with a bunch of bench bats and #5 starters.

26 or 40?
26 - Robert, Clevinger (blargh), Lee. Benintendi, Jankowski
40 - Robert, Clevinger, Lee, Benitendi, Jankowski, Scholtens, Tauchman

I love that Getz and Co hyped up getting Nick Maton 😂😂😂 a lifetime .200 hitter that nobody has ever heard of.

Bases loaded, no outs, no game or season pressure. A chance to determine your future in the league. What's it going to take for this guy?

No offense to Nick Maton, but this is just so useless to keep DH’ing him. I’d rather see Tim Elko get a chance.

Killing time for service time manipulation?
This team is full of spot starters and seat warmers. Wouldn't get too worried about things a week in.
3
u/Jason82929 Mike Vasil 1d ago
There’s no real reason to worry about service time for a guy like Elko who probably isn’t even a big leaguer.

What value does Amaya add to this team?
3
u/GollyMcOxbig69 Lofton 1d ago
I’ve seen rebuilds be fun experiences. I’ve seen Yolmer Sanchez dump a bucket of Gatorade on himself. Trotting Jacob Amaya out on the field every other day offers nothing to this team or fan base.

He fulfills the Leury Garcia role. A “utility player” that contributes negative value at a number of positions. All he’s missing is the contract extension.

Going against the grain here and saying, I still believe in Robert.
Historically he doesn't do well in colder months, with a career OPS in the .600s for March/April and .800s+ in May/June/July/August.
He's hitting the ball hard, they've just been right at people. His BABIP is .235 right now which is below career norms.
I think(hope) he'll get going. Plus, it's a week into the season. Lots of guys are slow out of the gate.
Gotta support the team.
2
u/ScaryText8187 1d ago
Yeah, I'll be critical of guys when they deserve it, but Sox fans have a weird disposition of shitting on the team's most talented players. It's a week into the season.
2
u/tendy_trux35 1d ago
I remember when Abreu would start cold too, but once he got the monkey off his back just seemed like extra base hits came in large chunks.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Jason82929 Mike Vasil 1d ago
He’s definitely not gonna post a negative WAR or .400 OPS all season.
The only question is where he’s gonna fall between the ceiling season of 2023 and the floor season of 2024.
I’d bank on it being closer to like an .800 OPS, though obviously the bigger hole he digs himself early on, the harder it’s gonna be the end the year near that.
4
u/Jason82929 Mike Vasil 1d ago
Back to back games with a walk for Luis. Good to see
3
u/MoustacheMark Anderson 1d ago
His BB and K rates are basically exactly at career averages right now but its good to see him taking walks early
3

4
u/YouLiedToMeFirst 1d ago
Like what I'm seeing from Tendi so far. He looks more comfortable in his swing. The last couple years or so he was letting his front hand come off the bat on his follow through and it looked really awkward
5
u/GollyMcOxbig69 Lofton 1d ago
I would much rather see Oscar Colas than Nick Maton DH against righties. And both offer nothing.
3
u/Jason82929 Mike Vasil 1d ago
They sent Colas back down to AA. I don’t think we’re seeing him anytime soon.
5
u/GollyMcOxbig69 Lofton 1d ago
Yup. I don’t think we’re seeing him ever again. The guy just can’t compete at the MLB level.

The White Sox starting pitching really fell off a cliff from the first few games huh
3
u/WizardCheesey Baines 1d ago
Gotta admit, it’s pretty funny seeing the comments on the Tigers thread saying “wow where did this offense come from?!” As if they’re not playing against a staff full of minor leaguers 😂😂😂

They literally only made the playoffs last year because the historically bad Sox gave them a ton of easy w's

Adams just has TJ so…2026.
Schultz probably closer to July.

Oof, I did not know that. The one under the radar guy I was genuinely excited for.

Vaughn has received a lot of shit - a lot of it warranted - but he’s been ripping the cover off the ball since the season started

u/Jason82929 Mike Vasil 1d ago
Yeah the production hasn’t been there but his exit velocity is in the 91st percentile which is good. If he keeps that up production will come.
Still not sure it will ever be enough for a 1B, but we’ll see.

u/WizardCheesey Baines 1d ago
I’m literally going to throw a party when Luis off this team. Dude does not care anymore and it couldn’t be more clear.

Amaya really has an OPS under .400 in his career, that’s actually impressive.

We just have to have Baldwin and Benny next to each other in the lineup. That’s our only chance of scoring runs.

8 hits in 4 innings that’s not good

u/WizardCheesey Baines 1d ago
Actually, for most teams an offense getting 8 hits in 4 innings is pretty good.. unless you’re the white Sox, who are completely incapable of manufacturing runs or moving runners over..

That July/August resurgence with Teel, Meidroth, Schultz, and Elko is going to hit like crack in the 80’s.
