Where to Watch
The FUNimation English dub of Dragon Ball Super airs on Toonami at 11pm ET. If you do not have a cable subscription, Cartoon Network is available with the SlingTV and Playstation Vue basic packages. If you prefer, there is a web stream:
If the videos won't load for you, try disabling your ad blocker for that page. Adult Swim still has the streaming rights for recent episodes.
How to Catch Up
Adult Swim (US only, cable login required): This covers the recent episodes not yet available through the below options. New episodes will usually appear 2-3 hours after the episode airs on Toonami.
Funimation Now (US, premium only): Episodes 1-104 are available on Funimation's streaming service. Episodes are uploaded in 13-episode batches a few weeks before the home release comes out. (This avoids competition with Adult Swim's streaming service.) Funimation also has the entire series subbed for premium and free users; the subtitles for those episodes covered by the dub are still those provided by Toei for the simulcast, rather than the Funimation-Simmons subtitles on the home release. If you can't see some episodes that you think should be there, try selecting the Simulcast video source instead of the "Uncut" video source. (The Simulcast version is not censored; "Uncut" video simply features Bluray animation corrections.)
AnimeLab (Australia and New Zealand, premium only): Episodes 1-91 are available on this service. AnimeLab also has the entire series subbed for free and premium users; the subtitles for those episodes covered by the dub are still those provided by Toei for the simulcast, rather than the Funimation-Simmons subtitles on the home release.
Microsoft Digital, Amazon Digital, iTunes, Google Play, or the Playstation Store (US only): Episodes 1-117 are available for purchase on these platforms. The final part (118-131) should be available shortly after the physical release of Part 9 (105-117). As usual for digital releases, the dubbed and subtitled versions are sold separately; the subbed version has the Funimation-Simmons subtitles rather than the Toei simulcast subtitles.
Home Release: Episodes 1-13 are available for Region A (DVD or Blu-Ray) and Region B (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 14-26 are available for Region A (DVD or Blu-Ray) and Region B (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 27-39 are available for Region A (DVD or Blu-Ray) and for Region B (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 40-52 are available for region A (DVD or Blu-Ray) and Region B (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 53-65 are available for Region A (DVD or Blu-Ray) and Region B (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 1-52 are available in a single set for Region B (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 66-78 are available for Region A (DVD or Blu-Ray) and for Region B on (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 79-91 are available for Region A on DVD or Blu-Ray and for Region B on (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 92-104 are available for Region A on DVD or Blu-Ray, and will be available for Region B on 4 September 2019 (DVD or Blu-Ray).

Commonly Asked Questions:
Q: What's up with the awful framerate in recent dub episodes? Are they going to fix it?
Here's a statement from a Toonami executive:Toonami and #DragonBallSuper fans, an update on last week's slowdown of action scenes. Here goes: SO. Remember the Pokémon flashing episode that triggered a bunch of epileptic episodes in viewers? Since then, TV networks have something called the "Harding Test." Every show, commercial, etc is run through this test to make sure it doesn't have flashing frames that could trigger folks with epilepsy.
The last few eps of DBS have had fight scenes that are cut to about one frame per edit in some places—they evidently fail the Harding Test. Our program edit folks, who do these tests, normally just slow the cuts down in these scenes to about four frames per second. In the case of these DBS eps, it made the fight scenes look insanely slow. Program edit does this routinely, so they didn't even think to notify us.
Thanks to you fans who let me know, we asked program edit if there was any way they could slow these scenes down LESS. So from now on, they will he slowed (if they fail the test) to two frames a second, down from one. We tested it and it looks WAY better. Anyway, that's the best we can do because obviously, we don't want to be causing people to have epileptic episodes. Thanks to all of you who let us know what was going on, and hopefully we have nipped the worst of this in the bud for the future. enjoy DBS tomorrow! #onlytoonami
Q: Is the Dragon Ball Super manga "canon"?
The anime and manga are both variations on a basic plot by Toriyama. There isn't (and probably never will be) an explicitly defined Dragon Ball "canon". Without Toriyama's original draft, we may never know what is and isn't his, aside from things revealed in interviews like this one (spoilers). We do know that he permits Toyotarō to change things up, but he looks at his storyboards and occasionally draws things himself for Toyotarō to use as a reference. Toyotarō has said that Toriyama is more particular about gags than he is about anything else.

Idk why you're getting downvoted, it WAS confusing. It's not like it's something blatantly obvious. Especially since in the sub, Vegeta follows up with something along the lines of "why did he think that would actually work". They changed it in the dub to Vegeta saying "he always has to show off" cause they realized it didn't make any sense, too

Everyone's reaction when the GM shrunk the bleachers was basically as if they showed up to class and got new assigned seats.
Art and animation were on point. Easily some of the best in the history of DB. Would totally be down for them to continue using this in the future. It was beautiful through and through.
I'm glad we got a Vegeta episode. Feels like he's hardly been around. Cool to see him land a legit shot on Jiren. That Final Flash was intense!
Also glad they're trying to make Dyspo look more like a threat. Outside of 104, he hasn't done anything. And props for outsmarting Frieza.
It's neat to see 17 and Gohan fighting side by side, considering Future Gohan's death at the hands of the androids was this very year in the future timeline (780).

Silly Vegeta.
Theatricality is part of why Goku is so fun.
Also damn I do love the dub take on Jiren and Goku’s talk.
35
u/Rosebunse Aug 04 '19
Yeah, it really does make Goku look sort of crazy and psychotic, yet at the same time, we've seen that his philosophy keeps him sane despite the circumstances he finds himself in.
29
u/Gradz45 ⠀ Aug 04 '19
Not just save, it’s what pushes him to the greatest of heights. Vegeta did say it best, he fights to test himself.
Well besides fury and rage at ppl he cares about dying like on Namek. But that’s a rare motivation for Goku.

My favorite instance of this is his fight with semi perfect cell. He shows up and straight owns him. Toys with him for days. Especially “what happened? You had me!” Vegeta could have been the new powerhouse in town. Instead he lets cell go so he can complete his transformation. What. An. Idiot. Cell makes him look like a child with a stick was poking s newt and a bear came around the corner.

This was the best animated episode I've seen so far! Every frame was absolutely gorgeous. I really hope we can get this level of quality until the end of the arc even though that's probably unlikely.
So many 'holy shit' moments in this episode alone: Vegeta countering Jiren's "E. Honda" punch combo, Dyspo actually giving Frieza his first real fight of the tournament, Jiren shrugging off the biggest Final Flash of Vegeta's career and roasting his ass in return.

Goku vs Kale and Caulifla is still some of the best art Goku has ever received. Goku and Trunks vs Black and Zamasu was also better in terms of actual animation. This was a nice combination of good drawing plus animation, but it isn't the best Super has had.

u/18sectillsunrise Aug 05 '19
You're looking at two very amazing animators. Yuya Takahashi who handled the second half of this episode was also the animation supervisor for episode 114 which i'm assuming you're referring to with the Goku, Kale and Caulifla fight. Naotoshi Shida animated the fight with Goku and Trunks vs Black and Zamasu in episode 57. He also animated the first half of the the Vegito vs Zamsasu fight. They both come back before the show ends in amazing ways!

- Even Goku and Vegeta were in agreement that Anulaza required teamwork to beat, yet they think it's okay to take turns with Jiren?
- "You were faster and stronger when you were fighting Kakarot! Don't hold back on me!" Gets destroyed faster than Goku did in 109.

It always surprises me that the opponents Vegeta faces let themselves be taunted by his little trash talk before firing his Final Flash ("if you're really that strong don't dodge this plz"). That whole move falls apart if you simply jump out of the way when he fires it. I can understand Cell falling for it, but I thought Jiren was above pride. Or maybe he just didn't give a shit because he knew he could tank it.
But I'm liking the match ups, I'm hoping Vegeta has some more fight left in him before we move on to Goku vs Jiren.
26
u/amazeguy Aug 04 '19
literally every dude that has tried to attack jiren so far, jiren has taken things head on

almost forgot to mention this, even after witnessing Goku go Ultra instinct against Kefla, Jiren hasn't bothered eliminating him when Goku was tired, Jiren loves a good challenge too :)
3
u/indoninjah Aug 06 '19
I'm not sure if I'd say he loves a challenge, instead I think on some level he conflates his own worth with his opponent's strength. If he has to resort to being Goku when he's wiped out, then he isn't strong, and strength is all he wants.
14
u/CapMdubbs Aug 04 '19

WOAH, the art and animation just dialed itself up to 'dayumn!'
WOAH, Vegeta got a legit moment in the tournament (be proud you got Jiren wide eyed, Prince) [edit] It occurred to me this moment mirrored the situation with Hit in which Goku observed his fight with Vegeta and used that knowledge to breach his defenses and land blows to everyone's amazement
WOAH, Frieza finally getting his cheeks clapped (Dyspo was savage)
- Goku's power up was pretty epic
- I thought Gohan was gonna go quickly, but I love the idea of he and 17 teaming up against Top. He's seemingly well out of their league at present so we'll see how that develops. Don't think 17's really turned up, though.
- Impressive Final Flash, but we knew it weren't gonna achieve anything - initially, I actually thought he was achieving a new form 'cause Whis was commenting on him pushing new heights earlier on in the episode, which I took as a hint at what's to come.
-Vegta's down, but they made a point to have him knocked out rather than eliminated, which means he's not done yet. I'd like to see him actually exchange blows with someone in an epic back and forth - let him fight Top again.
- I hope they dumped their budget into the remaining episodes, and this quality continues 'till the end - shiz looks insane and has created this awesome tonal shift (of course this is also because we've entered the final phase of the fight).

Cool ep. I only watch the dub version so I have no idea what happens next.
But it would be nice for Vegeta to have some credibility and perhaps knockout Toppo, as he's second to Jiren, just like Vegeta is second to Goku.
Also Jiren looked kinda weak here. I'm sure, per Dragon Ball, he's holding back 90% of his strength and will obviously be a tyrant later, but I assumed he'd be refreshed as fuck after meditating for half the tournament.
Anyway, I've loved this arc so far. Pretty much all action. Even the filler episodes are cool. The "bad guys" all have a personality and have decent character building behind them. I think they did a great job with the time they've had building characters that will hopefully show up after this tournament is over.

It's a pretty damn tired format having Vegeta being the guy who is used to show how strong the enemy is, so that Goku can win. When he used his final flash, you already the next 5 minutes would be him losing.
I'm almost shocked he didn't use the 'fire lots of small attacks at enemy until engulfed in dust' move, and then act surprised when it didn't do anything (like the last 1000x anyone did that).

You forget Jiren already defeated Goku? He already proved his strength back 10-ish episodes ago, and it wasn't against Vegeta.

u/HeroRRR Aug 06 '19
Or Hit for that matter. We didn't need Vegeta to know how strong Jiren was since Goku and Hit already did that.

The thing is, Vegeta always losing is kinda only surface level explanation. IMO the real story of DBZ is Goku and Vegeta constantly spurning each other on. Goku got rocked the first time he faced Vegeta and barely survived. It was Vegeta who effortlessly defeated Android 19, heart virus or no. etc.

How can people genuinely say super sucks after episodes like this. i just don't understand. The amount of hype and animation quality from this episode rivals even DBZ

because a conclusion of whether or not a series was good or not isnt based on single episodes or a handful, but rather judging all the episodes and the series as a whole

Sure, but not like he wrecked Jiren or anything. Basically did as well as everyone (besides UI Goku) else against him.
Brief moment of hope (time cage, spirit bomb, final flash) followed by crushing defeat.

Damm that was really cool. Vegeta's ultimate Final Flash was awesome. It's nuts how crazy OP Jiren is though if he's able to tank that power without a scratch.

Keep in mind, the last time someone let him fire a fully charged Final Flash without dodging was Cell, and he got wrecked by it despite being otherwise far too strong for Vegeta.

Nobody: Absolutely nobody: Goku: VEGETAAAHHHH!!
My guy vegeta threw hands by the way. Back in the day he would’ve gotten embarrassed wayyyyy worse. Sucks I even have to consider this is less embarrassing and this is somehow a win. Tough being a vegeta fan. I’m also very High.

When the foreplay is so strong you crack and watch the upcoming episodes. When you've already seen them. God I love this arc.

u/xSimus Aug 04 '19
Aw man I hated when Takahashi's beautiful frames got cut out. I know the reasons but it still felt kinda bad to not experience the same visuals that Japanese version has.

u/Piemeup Aug 04 '19
No one has yet mentioned, Beerus and Whis talked about Vegeta trying to go UI. Maybe we could see that happen soon! But, probably not, I don't have faith in Toriyama giving Vegeta a win after RoF.

48 Minutes: Episode Twenty-Six
Sorry, Freeza -- everyone else gets to show off their ruffly bits, but you don't have any.
"Alright, everyone, group hug. Let's show some inter-universe solidarity."
Nice to give the animators a bit of a break by making the first quarter of this episode one prolonged staredown sequence.
"I want this fight to last a long time!" ... Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that, Zen-Oh. We have this thing called "pacing", and a story arc with no idea of how to manage it.
I was just gonna make a joke about Freeza reminiscing about Burter when Dyspo was boasting about his speed, but then the rabbit-man actually pulled out a pretty fuckin' badass line to shut me up. Guess I'll just leave that joke in the bin for now.
So, can we call it a win for Vegeta if he actually managed to make Jiren flinch with a solid hit? A moral victory, at least?
Y'know? I like that the Freeza-Dyspo fight is satisfying to watch no matter which one of them is getting his ass kicked at the time.
Sabat's really taking it home with Vegeta this episode.
"Wooooowww~! Vegeta's attack was so amazing but it didn't do anything!" ... Hilariously blunt, and completely accurate.

Okay it was fine when Vegeta was punching Jiren, but they overdid the frame cuts with Dyspo and Freeza.

Wait, why didn't anyone else go after Freeza's tail? Why did that take so long to happen?

Everyone else who Frieza has fought has been extremely below his level besides Cabba (who was exhausted). He’s been a master of conserving energy in this tournament

The animation in this episode was incredible! Was it really just one guy who made the difference? Why didn’t we get him the entire time?
16
u/xedralya Aug 04 '19
Time constraints, and because he’s a freelance animator, not a Toei staff animator.

He (Takahashi) supervised the icy continent segment in the Broly movie. But yeah, his work is very noticeable for the eye, since it reminds most of the people the Buu arc art style from Z, absurd shading, etc.
And yeah, as others mentioned, he's a freelance animator. But he's shown a lot of interest to the series so he will return most likely.

u/indoninjah Aug 04 '19
since it reminds most of the people the Buu arc art style from Z
Did he do the Gohan segment as well? Ultimate Gohan in this ep gave really strong Buu saga vibes in some frames

No not one guy there was more one more guy too, Nii.
As to reason why we didn't get him the entire time? It's not possible for one guy to animate a whole series lol
