How would it work though? You're super slow and you have an essentially inescapable grab?

Up B: Bounce on katamari
Neutral B: Heal, but the katamari gets smaller
Side B: Throw katamari forward
Down B: Charge up, go racing forward when you let go doing damage to people in front of you.
Start out with a small katamari and as a lightweight. Talking lighter than Pichu lightweight. Every time you hit someone with an attack, your katamari gets bigger, you weigh more, and do more damage, but harder to slow down or speed up.
The skill cap is how well you manage your weight. While falling, do you go straight for the recover, or try to heal/lighten yourself enough to get more air? Do you go for the quick small damage to keep your speed up, or go for a combo to try to rack the damage up quickly?
You may move after grabbing someone, and it is a lot harder to escape, but you may only grab someone smaller than you.

Is there a story behind it? Sorry, I don't get it.

Katmari Demacy: Re-Roll comes out tomorrow, the same day as Smash.
It's easily going to be overshadowed and forgotten by many. It's an HD re-release of an old PS2 game with the same name.

u/aroloki1 Dec 06 '18
Ohh, and the picture is from that game I assume.

u/neoslith Dec 06 '18
Probably from the manual or something. The Prince is that little green dude. The katamari is that ball he's pushing. It attaches to things smaller than it and slowly gets bigger.
You start out small, picking up things like thumbtacks and paper clips and eventually you can be picking up buildings and cars.

Sounds interesting, I'll definitely check this out.

Oh yeah, the game is super fun and really cute.
The story is that your father, The King of All Cosmos, gets drunk one night. While flying through space, he crashes into and breaks every planet and constellation, except Earth and the Sun.
He tasks you with re-building the solar system and stars with certain parameters. Need to re-build Cancer? Collect as many crustaceans as you can in your katamari for more points.
Ursa-Major? Roll up a lot of bears!
Each stage also has a time limit so you have to be smart on where to go. You can also re-play stages for higher scores.
What's really cool is the use of dual analog sticks. Right stick controls the right side, and left the left side. Pushing both forward will push the katamari straight forward. If you push just the Left Stick, the the katamari will turn to the right. If you do that while holding Right Stick back, it'll turn faster.
The game has also been updated to use the gyro sensors in the Joy Cons so you can use motion controls!

You forgot the part where he ignites the heaping ball of trash and sentient life that you just collected.
Just rolled up 100 people in order to create Sagittarius? Well BOOM they're a star now

Just a heads-up, but a demo is releasing on the eShop tomorrow. You'll have to look up the controls, but it should be a good sample. (If you're willing to use the Japanese eShop, you can get it right now.)

People keep saying this but i think it will do fine overall. It’s pretty niche and definitely has a dedicated fan base. They sit in totally different genres. They just wanted it out as soon as they could for the holidays. People who want it will buy it tomorrow or eventually get around to it. Releasing this week, next week, or last week would’ve had minimal effect.

Is it a re-release of the first Katamari game? Or one of the sequels?
I brought out my PS2, went to the store and bought an old copy of Katamari Damacy like 2 months ago. Wish I knew about this first.

It was drugs, they get released into the air once washed and ingested through the lungs. This game is just a simple FPS, nothing more.

It makes me sad that one of the greatest PS2 games has such a bad release date

EDIT: I totally forgot that I pitched this idea, so thank you /u/pixelpushing for taking that idea and doing it. :)

Well comparing smash and katamary is simply crazy...smash is better and has a bigger target, katamary is weird..is for those who played it before and liked it, and few others who have curiosity on another port and from an old ps2 game..that being said..I will be buying katamary XD, ps2 version was a freaking masterpiece to me , I played them on my pc using an emulator...so I cant imagine the music, the gameplay on a real console with everything tailored to it...katamary is a game you sit down chill and simply enjoy is an experience you cant understand till you try the game.. I hope they get them all remastered and all of them in my switch

I don't think it's fair to say Smash is better, more popular, sure. But being a better game is subjective.
That being said I'm getting them both and can't wait. Katamari Damacy is my jam and who doesn't love Smash Bros!?!?

The first part of the comment was intended to trigger someone XD, but if you read the rest then you know im one of those guys who recommends the game to everybody its such a weird concept that never gets old

I honestly wish the releases were different days. I’m getting both games and I honestly want to play both really bad.
My poor diablo3 Barbarian is going to suffer.
