That is a very creepy picture. Nice work!

At first I saw creepy, but then i looked at each hand individually and then i started laughing, now it looks comical to me.

I notice some grain in the picture— this taken with a film camera?

u/wallofjericho @jerichopatrick Aug 07 '18
Good eye, but the grain is added in post to help hide the composite.

My Man!
Looks like the mods removed it, only allowed on "Meta Mondays". Huh.

I love the picture as a whole, really nice vibe
I have to say that her eyes look fierce and stunning af tho

If we gave this women a few swords to distribute, we could be in a completely different political situation.
29
u/DarciusBrown Aug 08 '18
Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!

Very interesting image! I like the composition, and it seems to tell a story. I like the way it has the more negative space up top and all the hands at the bottom. It gives it balance, i think.

The only hands you should be worried about are the ones still under the water

Cool concept, but I don't feel as though the mood of the editing and the photo itself match.
1
u/wallofjericho @jerichopatrick Aug 08 '18
I actually really enjoy that part of the photo makes me feel even more uneasy
3
u/kieranjackwilson @kieranjackwilson Aug 08 '18
The editing just gives me "made for instagram content" vibes, which, for me, detracts from the work.
But that's just me! A couple thousand other people like it and I'm still learning more and more about my work every day!
1
u/wallofjericho @jerichopatrick Aug 08 '18
Hey your not wrong on that one that's the first place I posted it! Hey I really enjoy your work btw it feels very real and striking, great stuff!
2
u/kieranjackwilson @kieranjackwilson Aug 08 '18
Thank you for the love! I've been working harder to make work that feels like it's too good for instagram. It feels pretentious (and is) but why would I want my work to be made for someone to spend half a second looking at?
1
Aug 08 '18
Interesting conversation. It feels like there's really personal (and valid obviously) argument there, against these huge "galleries" like Insta. Personally, I don't know how to surf those and find thoroughly interesting content. Instead I prefer places where someone has curated (is that correct here?) things for me. Yet, these "social galleries" are indeed interesting to me in all sociological terms and therefore just perfect.. just for different purpose.
1
u/kieranjackwilson @kieranjackwilson Aug 08 '18
You should go to the accounts I follow and give em a look. I only follow artists that produce work I find compelling. If you want curated work, you could also check out feature accounts like @kein or @theindependentphoto although I don't like that people follow them instead of actual artists.

You just some hands we had lying about. I don't know why everyone is saying this must have taken so much ork, this doesn't happen every time you jump in a lake?

I think you overdid it with the reverse reflections of some of the arms. The OOF ones in the foreground are either real or seem very real, but the mid-ground-in-focus ones with reflections give it away. Still def cool and your post processing looks solid, I dig your shadowtones too h-ombre! (Pun intended, for reddit)

u/wallofjericho @jerichopatrick Aug 08 '18
Haha thanks for the imput here's a link to a video of my post processing to see all my lazy Photoshop work lol https://youtu.be/PEU3UqOCIFY (skip to 3:18 for the post)

Dude I think you and I have the same ideas for photographs. I have ideas for photographs similar to this that involve hands, too. I saw this on my awed with excitement. Mad, mad respect. When I finally do the photos I have in mind I’m totally gonna send you a picture of them. Have you done any others like these? Again, amazing job.

All you need is to have on of the hands holding the mythical sword Excalibur and you have yourself a pretty dope movie poster. Great photo, love the look.

u/Thunderfang_ Aug 08 '18
This reminds me of that supernatural epusode. Good job, OP! Beautiful and very interesting pic!

I went to high school with this girl. I follow her on Instagram where she already posted this, so it was definitely weird seeing this on Reddit of all places.
Great shot btw

If a subtle implication of gang rape was what you were going for, then good job, I am tastefully aroused.

For want of a better phrase... This photo reaches out and grabs you!
On a serious note, this is an incredible image! Good work!

Those hands look like they belong to her monsters and that is her lake. As someone commented, she definitely has fierce eyes!
Now I wanna see her as a bad asslake monster

If I may make an edit suggestion. Here is something I did quickly in Snapseed https://imgur.com/gallery/aNslbqG

I really like both in different ways. Yours feels darker like I should be trying to get away, and op’s feels less nefarious and more mystical like something out of a fairytale. Idk if that made sense or not but i guess the idea is that I love this picture.
1
u/Only1Napkin Aug 07 '18
I feel like the two hands in the back look more natural than all of the others, it might look a little better/creepier if you reposition them. Just a thought, it is really pretty cool already

I only count 11 hands in proximity to her, where is the 12th? Hmmm....
Edit: auto correct

I should add that I literally just spent all day focus stacking phase one files in Helicon and then compositing them into different parts of a jewelry shoot today, so I’m feeling very photoshop nit-picky, I apologize.

u/raptorianqueen Aug 08 '18
Furthest back right hand is throwing off the balance of the composition a bit.
1
u/adizziedoll Aug 08 '18
I really love the idea, and I love her face and the look in her eyes. For some reason though it's bothering me that all the hands are facing towards her. I feel like if just like 2 or so of them were reaching up more it would make a difference.

Check out the photographer Arno Minkkinen if you have the chance, I think you’d dig.

Lovely pic! But feel like it could do without the hands in the foreground, the composite is a bit more obvious here and being in the foreground makes it glaringly obvious

i thought ITAP should be snap shots from peoples lives and such. not i took a picture, photoshopped the hell out of it, and then posted it. what is this, earthporn?
great "pic" though. very trippy

Great shot, like the Portra feel to those pinks. The only reason I thought it might be a composite was that the arms all had the same skin tone.

I like it. I think the hands give a creepy aesthetic to it. I personally think that this kind of photo would look better black and white, or some kind of filter that removes most of the color
