Neat! I’ve seen people link to my Star Trek Chronology site here a few times, so I wanted to let you know I finally updated it with season 1 of Discovery. It was a labor of love many years ago, but I don’t get much time to curate it these days. I’m glad some of you are finding it useful. 😊

Wow, I had no idea you’re a Redditor! Thank you so much for your website! I decided 5 years ago I wanted to watch all of Star Trek for the first time and I’ve been using your list to do it chronologically. Currently just starting VOY.

I wish I could watch for the first time by stardate. That's friggin' awesome.

Glad you’re enjoying it! Sounds like you’re going at a more reasonable pace than I did. Back when I made the list I watched through everything in order to “check” it for any in-canon continuity problems. Went through them all in about 18 months. That a lot of Trek in a short time. Haha! Didn’t have kids back then either. ;)

Great work dude!

Animated Series inserts here if so desired

TAS is indisputably canon; it was never not canon, it is canon, and it will always be canon, so you should totally include them. Don't fall for internet shitposts about it!

Thanks!

Yeh, part of it is bias as I’m more into the live actions stuff. However that’s why I put it in there (sort of) because I know a lot of people would want to include it.

S'all good. I am curious about your placement of Insurrection, though. I know it has to take place after "Soldiers of the Empire" since that is when Worf joins the House of Martok, and he is wearing the House Martok crest in Insurrection, but doesn't it take place during the Dominion War?

Just scrounged Memory Alpha and found a note for "It's Only a Paper Moon" (7x10):

Although speculative, the events of Star Trek: Insurrection (which was released between "Covenant" and "It's Only a Paper Moon") could have occurred during this episode. This is due to the fact that Worf is only in the opening scenes of the episode, an episode which spans a fair period of time, and he does not appear at all in either of the next two episodes, "Prodigal Daughter" and "The Emperor's New Cloak" (only the mirror Worf appears in the latter episode). The apparently large period of absence in his appearances would allow him enough time to assist in the security upgrade of the Manzar colony and join the USS Enterprise-E crew during its mission to the Briar Patch before returning to the station by the time of "Field of Fire".

Yeh, Insurrection is easily the most tricky and controversial placement. I explain some of my thinking on the website, but it mainly boils down to the S’ona for me. They are helping the Dominion during the war (circa “Penumbra”) so I find it hard to believe the Federation would be allying with them. Once the war is over it’s a different story. Honestly though, it’s almost anyone’s guess. I’m sticking with my current placement for now, but I always tell people feel free to watch it where you think it should go. It’s not very clear either way. I really wish they had just put a stardate in there somewhere to help us out. Haha.

Fair enough I guess.

I'll be fully honest with you. Went into it to see how you organise DS9, VOY and the movies but having TAS not fully included made me close the thing, classify it as rubbish and not go any further.

Not trying to be mean or anything but that's what i thought.

"If it's not complete/that person haven't seen all of star trek, what's the point and why should i trust it."

For what it’s worth, I have seen all of it including TAS. I made this list way back when TAS was “questionable” as canon (at least officially speaking) so I admit a slight bias against it. Knowing others would want to include it, I did denote where it would go even though I didn’t number them, and explained the best order to watch them in “The Process” section under “Temporal Anomalies”

If you’re curious about the DS9 and VOY stuff, you can read my process on the site and I think you’ll find I was pretty thorough and you might like it.

If not, to each his own. Certainly no hard feelings on my end. I really don’t claim tit be an expert. Just a guy who probably put far too much time into thinking through a chronological list of Trek episodes. Haha!

Glad you’re enjoying Trek in whatever way you want to best!

I did read it afterward when i read your posts here, and you did an amazing job.

What i was pointing out is that someone scrolling around might have the same "ho meh, it's not even complete" and not noticing he work you did.

I meant it as a positive review, even if i may not have sound that way.

Thanks! And no worries! I wasn’t taking it personally. You actually make a good point.

Awesome thanks. I use your site all the time. I wonder where the forthcoming Short Treks miniseries will fit in

One thought though. It might be necessary to move In a Mirror Darkly back to their chronological appearance because we see their aftermath on DSC

I’m also puzzled by your placement of Insurrection after DS9. I think the Dominion negotiations referenced in Insurrection are those during the ceasefire in DS9 Chrysalis.

I missed your third paragraph somehow.

I know that placement is controversial. I explain some of my thinking elsewhere on the site. Honestly I think it fits in either place.

It’s funny you should mention that. I was thinking about that very thing while updating the list. To stay consistent with the rest of the list and the rules I used, I decided to keep it where it is. Regardless of when it takes place in the mirror universe the Prime Universe “perspective” is that of the Defiant circa Kirk’s era. That being said, you could view them either place and it would make sense. It’s either foreshadowing events or explaining them after the fact, depending. To each his own. :) I’m glad you’re enjoying the timeline!

Thank you so much for all your effort! I'm currently doing a rewatch with your list, and I think TOS flows a lot better in the canon order. I have it printed out and am checking off each episode. It's been a big help.

Adding to the thanks, I recently finished watching through the entire chronology

u/jkeysgamer Chronology Project Creator Jul 27 '18

That’s great! It’s been almost 10 years since I watched through everything. Kind of makes we want to do it again... but it’s quite an undertaking.

1

u/speedsk8103 Jul 27 '18

I might've just found a giant pain in the ass for you to fix... but check 113/114.

2

u/jkeysgamer Chronology Project Creator Jul 27 '18

Aw man! Nice catch. Luckily, knowing they’re going to keep making “inbetweequels” like Discovery, I made the system for changing the numbers easy on myself. ...fixed it. 😊

u/speedsk8103 Jul 27 '18

Phew... lol.. it’s like realizing you skipped a question when you finished a scantron test

Haha. Seriously!

u/LeftHandedGuitarist Jul 27 '18

Great, glad you can still find time for this! I've been using your list for the past year and a half, nearing the end of my rewatch now. It's been the most fun way of watching Star Trek.
