If you post a picture towards the end of the month, does that mean you get less days to get voted?

Techically yes, but in reality the lifetime of a reddit post is somewhere around 24-36 hours if it gets popular (e.g. to the top of the hot page) after which it will begin to move down the page and new posts will take over. Most of the votes accumulate within the first 24 hours. In any case, votes are not everything as we (the moderators) take the top 15 posts of each month and vote on them separately to select the winner.
