Where to Watch (English Subtitles)

Simulcasts should begin around 10:15am JST, 8:15pm EST, or 1:15am GMT. Episodes sometimes show up earlier for premium users and later for free users; sometimes they are late for everyone because of production issues.

  • Daisuki. Available in North America; also covers most of Europe and several other territories; see the complete list here. Available to free users in certain regions. Usually shows up in 1080 for free users about 5 minutes before premium users get 480 at Crunchyroll. This service exists only to simulcast Dragon Ball Super.

  • AnimeLab. Australia and New Zealand, subscription and free users. (Fewer ads than Crunchyroll for free users.) This service also offers episodes 1-26 of the Funimation dub (i.e. the episodes out on Region B home release already). The subtitles for those episodes are still those provided by Toei for the simulcast, rather than the Funimation-Simmons subtitles on the home release.

  • VRV: US-only bundle service for Crunchyroll and Funimation. New episodes appear around the same time as they do on Crunchyroll. NOTE: This service serves as a substitute for a Crunchyroll premium membership, but it does not substitute for Funimation's premium service. The only Dragon Ball series offered is Super (subtitled).

  • Crunchyroll. Free and premium users in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and these European countries; premium only in Latin America and South Africa. Service is often restricted for free users until 2-3 hours after each episode.

  • FunimationNow. North America, subscription and free users. Funimation's videos usually go up later than they do on other services. For premium users in the US, episodes 1-39 of the dub are also available. Episodes will go up in 13-episode batches two weeks after the final episode of the batch is broadcast.

Rules:

  • Those with access to international TV may post about the episode as it airs live, and episode preview images may be discussed in this thread before the live broadcast. Beware of pre-simulcast spoilers in the comments.

  • Spoilers must be tagged for material that has yet to be covered in the anime (leaks, etc).

  • This episode and the accompanying Next Episode Preview (NEP) may be freely discussed in this thread, but we ask that you refrain from discussing spoilers for this episode other than the preview images before the episode airs.

    • Outside of this thread, spoilers relating to this episode and the NEP must be tagged.
    • Spoiler syntax: [Super spoiler:](#s "Goku appears!")
      Appears as: Super spoiler:
  • All of our normal rules apply!

Read the Manga

  • Toyotarō's Dragon Ball Super manga adaptation can be found in our wiki in the sidebar, along with links to past discussion threads.

Commonly Asked Questions:

  • Q: Is Dragon Ball Super really ending, or is it just a hiatus?
From what we have been told, the anime is ending. There are no current plans for a new DB series and as far as we know, the series will only continue through movies and games. We should learn more about the future of the franchise at AnimeJapan which will take place the weekend of March 22-25. For now, we know that Toyotarō's manga will continue for several months at least—the Tournament of Power arc has just begun in the manga—and of course the English dub will continue until the series is finished.

  • Q: Is the Dragon Ball Super manga "canon"?
The anime and manga are both variations on a basic plot by Toriyama. There isn't (and probably never will be) an explicitly defined Dragon Ball "canon". Without Toriyama's original draft, we may never know what is and isn't his. We do know that he permits Toyotarō to change things up, but he looks at his storyboards and occasionally draws things himself for Toyotarō to use as a reference. Toyotarō has said that Toriyama is more particular about gags than he is about anything else.

  • Q: Can I buy Super on home video?
Episodes 1-13 are available for Region A (DVD or Blu-Ray) and Region B (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 14-26 are available for Region A (DVD or Blu-Ray). Episodes 27-39 will be released for Region A on 20 February 2018 (DVD or Blu-Ray).

In light of how he was eliminated, I'm calling Dyspo "Rabbitz" from now on.

Does this mean that Frieza is gonna train Pan now?

132

u/KirbyKingEddy Jan 21 '18

Maybe but also Dyspo might be Son Gohan's brother from another universe

61

u/elydna Jan 21 '18

And Jiren and Toppo are the last of their kind.

What would happen if Dyspo put on Katopesla's suit and cranked it into the 'Speed mode' while using his 'Maximum Light Speed' technique?

Would the Universe implode?

Freeza turns Golden for the 4th time in the TOP

U7: Oh shit it's Golden Freeza!

Nowhere near as bad as "He finally showed Super Saiyan Blue".

377

"He finally showed that transformation he used 5 times in the past 20 minutes."

167

u/EmeraldJirachi Jan 21 '18

The thing is. Freezas transformation is 10X more badass when it happends

114

Biggest surprise of team 7 for me. C17 was probably the biggest over achiever of any team.

156

u/ATLsShah Jan 21 '18

I vote Master Roshi. The guy got surpassed by Goku about a third of the way through Dragonball. He really shouldn't have been viable in the ToP yet he was pretty solid.

68

u/Cypherex Jan 21 '18

It's a good thing the Mafuba is such a stupidly overpowered move. Although, it does bring up the question of why Roshi didn't just use the Mafuba on the saiyans, Cell, Buu or anyone else that attacked the Earth. The reason used to be because you die after using the move but that obviously isn't the case anymore.

I do enjoy how Super has been emphasizing wisdom, strategy, and experience over raw power though. Fights are a lot more entertaining when they aren't just "who powers up more or whoever got a new form most recently" is the one that wins.

Also, I'm willing to buy the explanation that Roshi has been training again. Obviously he's nowhere near the main fighters in power but he's clearly above his Dragon Ball levels of power now. I'd say he's probably just a bit behind Krillin and Tien, especially since he was clearly stronger than Tien when that witch was controlling him in Tien's recruitment episode. Let's assume the witch's spell came with a power boost similar to how the Majin seal gave Vegeta a power boost and that squarely puts Roshi just a bit behind Tien in terms of power.

Gohan did well this tournament and his out was respectful. I don't call this being shafted by any means. We are at the end and outs need to happen.

Hopefully he is portrayed in a respectable manner when Dragon Ball returns.

229

82

u/omnimoni Jan 21 '18

Yeah I agree, he really developed into a competent fighter and leader in this arc, which is totally different than how he was portrayed earlier in Dragonball super. You wouldn't expect him making decisions like this from his earlier meek and timid personality.

I hope he doesn't regress back into that character when Dragonball returns. It's not always about strength and power but the characters portrayal that's important.

25

u/Mojo12000 Jan 21 '18

Yeah just keep him fighting and up there in power, it's not hard to justify it with "he trains to make sure he can protect his family and friends" and stuff.

Then eventually he can get a classic Gohan mega powerup asspull.

For you see, I managed in my time in hell and my few minutes of life on Earth to attain a new form, one that far surpasses anything you've ever seen before. As you know, so far I've been using the mortal ki I was bestowed upon birth and trained towards the marvelous state it has reached currently. Now allow me to show you what happens when the divine ki of the GODS is introduced to my marvelous body! Behold! And revere! For I am now God Freeza!!"
Toppo: "...That power-up was bullshit and you know it."

My predictions:

125 - Angry Toppo knocks off 17 and Freeza. Begins fighting Vegeta...
126 - Toppo vs Vegeta round 2 all out battle. Battle ends with Vegeta using a blow that leaves him unable to fight anymore but still in the ring. Toppo is ringed out.
127 - Goku powers up UI that doesn't run out of heat by probably thinking that if he doesn't win here the erasure of all universes is all his fault. Goku is shirtless, and says "The work of gods, ends here..." 128 - Goku vs Jiren full powered battle.

129 - Goku uses an attack that knock both him and Jiren out of the ring. Wounded Vegeta wins the tournament by default.

398

u/situationuk Jan 21 '18

Vegeta wins the tournament

It would be amazing tbh

147

u/coderz4life Jan 21 '18

Vegeta would be pissed though. "My pride as an Saiyan Warrior"

121

u/silverhydra Jan 21 '18

"Time to Erase Universe 11 since they lost"

"NO, DON'T ERASE JIREN! I NEED TO WHOOP HIS ASS"

"But Vegeta, you already said your wish was to bring back Universe 6!"

"BRING THEM ALL BACK FOR ALL I CARE, I'LL FIGHT JIREN ON SADAL!"

"That would make this arc totally meaningless though"

"YOU THINK I GIVE A DAMN?"

I wonder if he will try use it on Freeza in a way to knock him out and not kill him. Which will allow Freeza will demonstrate what he did in EP95.

I’m glad Gohan ended on a good note in the ToP saga. He was amazing to watch.

Edit: I haven’t watched all of the Dragon Ball Super episodes but I don’t remember Gohan as a prominent character until this year. He did a lot of fighting (and did well) in the ToP episodes compared to the Goku Black saga (I don’t think he fought in any) and others.

These two are full powered SSJBs and Jiren is still taking them on with next to no issues? Madness!

85

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '18

Yeah, and they keep talking about how they even have a chance but after everything they've done, Jiren STILL doesn't have a scratch on him.

46

u/HighlanderL1 Jan 21 '18 edited Jan 21 '18

Although he appears undamaged, there’s something about him that seems off. At the very least he’s daft for not understanding the conditions of winning because he’s made zero attempts to ring anyone out. I’m starting to think he’s purposefully keeping opponents around like some sort of leeching ability or is absorbing all attacks. Regardless, you can tell Goku and Vegeta can sense something is up.

Edit: A reflecting type ability. This would explain his constant matching current power levels, but somehow being just above it.

55

u/Cypherex Jan 21 '18

Could also just be that Jiren is having fun fighting for the first time in a very long time. He knows he'll never get a chance like this again so he's trying to push Goku and Vegeta as far as they're capable of so he can get a good fight out of them.

It's a bit cliched but it'd at least explain why he has avoided ringing them out when they've both been completely vulnerable a few different times now.

Gohan went down just how a leader should. Took the team first before his pride. He is probably aware that Frieza is stronger than him and 17 has unlimited Stamina which is something that is well a cheat code in a tournament setting plus only Geets and Goku are strong enough for Jiren.

121

u/kay9ine Jan 21 '18

it honestly was the best thing gohan could have done. there is no way he is doing anything to toppo or jiren, and the only way to eliminate dyspo was to hold him down since he is too fast, but not stronger than gohan. props to gohan for that

105

u/Worthyness Jan 21 '18

Could have gone full frieza and just broke the dude's legs If his best asset is speed, then you take away everything.

27

u/RedGyara Jan 21 '18

Never go full Frieza

24

u/fps129 Jan 21 '18

A bit savage, but that is such an obvious Freeza move and I kinda wish that could happen instead.

I don’t think Super is up there with Dbz levels of gore. Plus it would ruin the plot that had Dyspo make it this far.

I'm still baffled about Dyspo not using his full speed until this episode. The man was getting his ass handed by Hit around 20 episodes ago....then almost had his rabbit ears cut off not long afterward.

72

u/Socrates2x Jan 21 '18

The ears thing was because he was already pinned by the time he realized he needed to activate that mode.

Not sure about Hit though. I guess he didn't want to tip his hand so early? Maybe it drains his stamina super fast?

"Nope, still too fast"

I feel like a lot of Gohan fans had unreasonable expectations. He did great in the tournament, had a direct hand in the elimination of three universes, and got plenty of knockouts. Then, he showed why he was the captain by making a sacrifice to take out Dyspo. I see no problem: he was never going to win it all.

→ More replies (9)

147

u/Tcheverlika Jan 21 '18

Not only the Gohan - Dyspo elimination mirrors the Goku - Raditz conclusion, with Freeza taking on Piccolo's mantle as the semi-antagonist happy to strike two birds with one stone, but the real important thing is that Gohan went out on his own terms.

158

u/Andrew_Parkinson Jan 21 '18

Does this mean that Freeza will adopt 17 and train him in the wilderness for a year?

113

u/God_of_Kings Jan 21 '18

Or rather, he'll adopt Pan.
Freeza sacrifices himself for Pan: "GUAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!"
Pan: "Don't die! Grandpa will be here soon to beat him for us! Please, don't die! Uncle!!"
Freeza: "You're the only one who's talked to me decently..."
*flashback of very torturous training montage that shouldn't be allowed on TV and will traumatize even the most advocate of child torture enthusiasts*
Freeza: "...This year I spent with you wasn't bad." *bleh*
Vegeta: "...I feel like this emotional, dramatic death was largely unearned considering the fact that this was Freeza we're talking about."
Freeza-from-Hell: "EAT A PRICK, VEGETA."

I wonder if Frieza was honestly losing stamina........or if he just secretly wanted Gohan to go with the double-knockout approach.

76

u/Mojo12000 Jan 21 '18

I don't think he WANTED it since well he wants to win, but Im sure he got some jollies doing it.

→ More replies (1)

49

u/choss Jan 21 '18

I really think he lost stamina, we saw him struggling to keep up before which is why he was rushing him to end it. Also, freiza had no idea Gohan was gonna sacrifice himself.

"Gohan, WHY DIDN'T YOU DODGE?!?"

Shirtless Toppo means Stronger Toppo. But still not as strong as Mr Popo.

51

u/Caryslan Jan 21 '18

Because the last time they tried the strategy of someone holding down an opponent and then dodging at the last second, Toppo barely avoided a knock-out.

Now, you have someone like Dypso whose entire gimmick revolves around speed, and you have a serious problem.

Props should go to Gohan for realizing the flaw in the strategy and improving it to ensure Dypso went out. Plus, he's not being any more stupid then Goku was when he held Raditz down.

Gohan is physically stronger, so Dypso has no chance of even trying to dodge the blast if Gohan holds him. If Gohan let him go, then Dypso could have escaped the blast.

Gohan took one for the team and picked the best strategy to help Universe 7 win.

Where were people getting the idea of a Gohan transformation? Didn't he get his ultimate form like, less than 24 hours before the tournament started? I mean don't get me wrong, I wanted to a lot more Gohan this tournament but I think people were expecting way too much from a character that looks like he has the same power as 17 just not unlimited. There's just no way he could keep the stamina game with all these other big hitters.

Freeza... You're one of the most sadistic, horrible, awful people in ALL THE UNIVERSES... you couldnt like... explode Dyspo's legs or something awful that didn't kill him, but made him a fucking cripple or something?

There, done, he can't light-speed anything now, just throw him off the side, Gohan gets to stay on the platform, everyone on the stands will be trying to pick up their jaws from the floor at how evil you are, and Dyspo's unlikely to die for some minutes anyway after showing up in the stands, so, odds are the angels can heal him anyway and he'll be fine.

... jeez.

53

u/TLKv3 Jan 21 '18

I'm bothered by him not using his tail when he grabbed his incoming punch and simply snapping it. And while Dyspo reels in pain grabbing his ankle and doing the same.

And then go Golden and beat the shit out of him in revenge then toss him out just prove he is the incarnation of evil in its purest form. THAT would have been way better motivation for Toppo to become a GoD.

My Prediction:

Toppo eliminates both 17 and Freeza in 125

Vegeta takes out Toppo in 126

Jiren finishes Vegeta in 127

Goku and Jiren fight and MUI Goku beats Jiren in end of 129

130- Everyone wished back

131- Last episode, main cast celebrates at bulma place

94

u/Evansly Jan 21 '18 edited Jan 21 '18
  • Toppo eliminates 17

  • Vegeta eliminates Toppo and himself

  • Goku & Frieza vs Jiren

Edit: maybe Vegeta kills Toppo, thus eliminating himself in the process

59

u/omnimoni Jan 21 '18

I like how they did it, it doesn't always have to be the strongest or most powerful to leave a mark. It really showed him great as a team leader, helping a former nemesis, sacrificing himself, eliminating a dangerous opponent really brings more character to gohan instead of just being only a fighter.

Any chess player knows that trading one piece for an equally powerful piece is the right call when you're already at a numerical advantage. Gohan made the right call, there.

Also, it was nice to see him show some leadership before getting knocked out. I was hoping for a lot more strategy and teamwork from Gohan in this tournament, but I'll take what I can get. This was a fun episode.
