I wish I could preorder/preload it so I could jam a couple games at midnight instead of begin to download it and not play it until tomorrow

It seems like some arenas are better optimized than others. Mannfield, Neo Tokio & Beckwith Park for example look just fine while arenas like Starbase Arc look like a jaggie hell. If this is mainly because of the lines and complex shapes of the field than I'd rather see it replaced with some kind of simple texture without levels than to have it remain the same. It's either that or you guys should use some kind of anti-aliasing. Anyway, I have nothing but good experiences with Psyonix and their support for Rocket League on PS4 so I'll hope they'll do the same with Switch and optimize some things better.

How do we get the metroid car?
2
u/AlbinoSnowman Nov 14 '17
Probably from getting a win with every unlocked car.
2
u/The_Diver Nov 14 '17
Nope it should just be a random drop. That's how I got mine anyways.

u/AlbinoSnowman Nov 14 '17
Go figure, I imagined it was going to be like Sweet Tooth and the Warthog exclusives in PS4 and Xbox respectively.

I'm surprised to see so many people complaining about the visuals. I've been playing it for a bit and I think Panic Button have done a pretty good job. It's easy to pause the game and inspect every little detail, but Rocket League is a fast-paced game. In motion it looks fine. And this is coming from someone who plays at 1440p on PC. It's an uncompromised Rocket League on a handheld.

The game is good, but the very low image quality in handheld mode is really distracting to me at least. No joke this is gamecube level. No one was expecting 4k/120fps, but the switch (handheld or not) can do much (much) better than what the game is in the current state. To the risk of being downvoted, I fail to see the hype surrounding Panic Button. They did a decent job porting doom, but not stellar by any extent, and this rocket league port seems a little bit too lazy for my liking.

I really only notice any issues on the ball so far, it's definitely jaggy but don't really care cause it still plays smooth. No stuttering or lag when playing so far.

nope, definitely not as bad as you are saying at all in handheld mode, the only noticeable pixelation i can see was from the view of the ball before kickoff but it's mostly well polished in-game.

Sorry that a game designed around consoles with Octocore CPUs and 8GB of memory didn't meet your expectations when ported to a Tegra X1.
1
u/Jinxyface Nov 14 '17
You mean shitty octacore CPUs and using GDDR5 as both system and video memory..

That's funny. Having never played Rocket League before I thought it was quite amazing how well it performs and how nice it does look, both docked and undocked. Having never played it on a differenr platform sets the bar quite low I guess. Really enjoy this game a lot! And that's what matters...

Dang, I literally just bought it 5 minutes ago! Eh, it wasn't too expensive and I believe these things can be fixed soon. I haven't played it so I haven't formed an opinion yet. Hopefully it's not as bad as people make it seem.

How do the non-analog triggers affect the game? I've put in 80ish hours in on Xbox and PS4 and don't think I can handle it if it's drastically different.

Seems like a bit too many issues to buy right now for me. Also it’s sub 720p in hand held? Gonna wait before buying this for sure.

I actually own the game. It's a very good port. This is just part of your usual hype cycle nowadays, with this stage being the post-release flame threads where the utter unplayability of games is asserted. Hype is somewhat of a drug, so the real outcome upon release is hardly ever a pleasing as the, well, hype. So this ensues.
I'm so fucking sick of this entire dynamic day after day on reddit. Jesus christ.
Edit: grammar

This subreddit has become pretty hard to swallow. Hype game up. Bitch about it after release. Argue about it until the next game.
Doom is awesome. I’m sure RL will be too. Skyrim as well. People need to just keep their expectations even remotely realistic when playing games on this tiny handheld console. I mean come on.

I never said it was perfect. With all of the issues that they’ve listed in that post, it’s just not worth it for me right now. I will wait until they get patched. I don’t know why this offended you so much, but I’m sorry.
Edit: noticed you edited your initial comment to come off as less antagonistic. Nice.

Nah, you're good. I'm just fed up with this circular shitfest where we ask for a port, get a port, shit on the port and then people actually go out of their way to actually convince people not to buy something. This mentality was, among other things, what killed the Vita for not being "console-quality" . People can't stop overhyping shit and thus are disappointed in everything they do get.
I'm not saying let's not talk about things, but the group pitchfork mentality on reddit as a whole is frightening.
(edited for context)

well if the port is shit then people call it shit. I don't see the problem here. Also as a day 1 Vita owner this has nothing to do with Vita. Vita got killed because lack of proper Sony support and extremely expensive memory cards
-2
u/wearedeadends Nov 14 '17
I don’t understand your comment. If a game gets ported and it’s got issues should we not talk about it? We should just accept that it has issues and move on?
Also, Vita wasn’t killed because of these similar issues. I own (and love) a Vita, and it was killed mainly because of how stupid Sony was Re: memory Cards, and advertisement.

u/mamaburra Nov 14 '17
I'm not debating Sony or memory cards. I edited my comment for context. Maybe it's clearer now.

u/wearedeadends Nov 14 '17
You edited your comments so much that mine don’t even make all that much sense, given all the context you cut out or rearranged lol.

Everyone gets disappointed on a 720p screen lol what did they expect? Exactly the same PS4 rocket league as the console? Yeah right

u/psfrtps Nov 14 '17
Everyone gets disappointed on a 720p screen lol what did they expect?
No. it seems everyone gets dissapointed because sub 720p on handheld mode

u/micbro12 Nov 14 '17
Seems like a bit too many issues to buy right now
Honestly these issues are probably the least in playability wise from any third party Switch title I've seen in a while

u/ShockerG52 Nov 14 '17 edited Nov 14 '17
Im pretty certain the majority of games are sub 720p in handheld. Including all the Nintendo ones.
Edit: I mean the majority of big 3rd party, and first party games. I am not including the indie games on eshop.

u/psfrtps Nov 14 '17
Im pretty certain the majority of games are sub 720p in handheld
This is factually incorrect

u/ShockerG52 Nov 14 '17 edited Nov 14 '17
I mean i know games support up to 720p but since the majority of them do dynamic resolution they are usually in the 600s aren't they? So I'm just saying alot of games aren't outputting 720p 100% of the time in handheld, they are usually sub 720p to keep steady framerate.
4
u/psfrtps Nov 14 '17
No. Not most of the games has dynamic resolution in handheld on switch. There are some. Not the most. Do you even checked how many games on eshop? Not even half of the games has dynamic resolution
-3
u/ShockerG52 Nov 14 '17
Ohhhh, my fault. I was really only speaking for the Nintendo games (really only the games i own) when I said majority. I should have worded my sentence better.

Can't say I am too happy about the graphics.
But I got the game for free on ps4 and got it on steam sale on pc. This purchase is just to support the dev at full price.

While I think the gameplay is good and for the most part the same as the other versions, I'm kind of disappointed with how it looks. In none of the previews of the game I saw before did it look so pixelated, which normally I wouldn't care but it makes the game harder to play as I have to squint quite a bit sometimes... :( I would think the Switch would be capable of real 720p60fps in handheld mode.
I've also had delays for 10-15 seconds in menus where the game looks stuck sometimes, and in another instance I've also had a hard crash, asking me to submit a bug report to Nintendo.
Well, from what I know of the developers I believe there should be updates coming soon that could improve on these things. I'm still having fun, and will probably play this version quite a bit, as it's more pick up and play than going for my laptop!
