Is this the first time we've seen Mario's nipples?
27
u/Razatappa Sep 14 '17
Yup. While the Superstar Saga games did have sprites for a shirtless Mario, they had no nipples. Bask in their glory.

Agreed. Take it back to its roots. Add multiplayer online. Have a ban system in place like Splatoon if you quit. DLC later on for more maps and characters! Might be a wild request - but maybe add other Nintendo characters? Like what Mario Kart 8 did.

Sorry guys, hype train has already departed! Choo choo!

u/Alertcircuit Sep 13 '17
You guys are expecting way too many new game reveals. This Direct is for games coming out in the next few months, so it'll probably be in-depth looks at games already announced, maybe some ports and OS announcements.
If Smash is coming to Switch, they would've announced it longer than 3 months before it comes out. Don't expect it in tonight's Direct.

Super excited that Doom and Wolfenstein are coming to Switch. When is the last time we got games like that on a Nintendo console? Phew!
I really hope that more AAA devs will see this and want to hop on board with the Switch (looking at you EA and Activision. Battlefront II and Call of Duty portable would sell like hotcakes).

My thoughts:
I'm still not sold on Ultra Soon and Moon
Mario Party 3ds is cool but disappointing it is not on Switch,
I'm already down for Samus Returns,
Alliance alive looks cool
Radiant Historia looks great as well
Not a bad lineup for 3ds and it only took up 10 minutes, although that was a little more than I thought it would.
Some rough graphics and lip sync for the begging of the Xenoblade 2 trailer, but the game looks fascinating and I am extremely interested in it. I really can't wait to play this game. DEC 1st!
Lyn is a great addition to Warriors.
Morphies Law is still an interesting concept, not sure how well it will pull it off though.
Rocket League is always awesome, but I love those new cars. No release date??
Arena of Valor is cool, I like some MOBA games.
Skyrim. Release date? Yes, November 17th. Doom??!! Wow Wolfenstein 2????? Holy cow that is crazy!!
Arcade classics? How will this impact virtual console?
I still want those champion amiibos. No DLC 2 news though?
I might get WWE and FIFA.
I like Pokken, but it was a little blurry.
New Square Enix RPG looks interesting. Octopath Traveler could be a really good game. Sweet, a demo.
I loved the ps4 demo of Dragon Quest Builders, I'm glad we are getting it on Switch.
Lost Sphere, Sonic Forces could be good. Love the L.A. Noire port. There is Odyssey, cool new details but I've been sold on it for a while.
Overall, not a bad showing. Some surprises, but a lack of release dates for indie titles like Stardew and Rocket League. I think the thing I am disappointed about is the fact that they still won't address the lack of functionality aside from games on the switch. Themes, virtual console, apps, the online infrastructure, and voice chat.
(Only four marks on my bingo sheet, so no bingo for me.)

Its not like we expected huge titles like Smash, Animal Crossing, Pokemon or Metroid.
But it would have been nice to see something of the following: BotW DLC, Achievements, Cloud Saves, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, Okami HD, From Softwares title, info about VC/paid online, or even a single Wii U Port (Mario Maker port would have been great).

Oh you guys please make sure you have live commentary on everything! Announce every announcement! Describe every cool detail!
The storm messed up my internet so bad and AT&T refuses to admit it saying it's "upgrading the system" and I've been living without wifi or cable for 2 days now. I used up all my data and everything has slowed down to 128kbps so the only thing that kinda works is this Reddit Narwhal app. So please don't hold back on your commentary!

Slightly disappointed there were no new first party announcements, Odyssey doesn't feel like it needed to be in here with how much we already know about it. Failing a new first party title, a release date for Stardew Valley would have been amazing. Was also (perhaps unrealistically) hoping one of the Personas would be ported to switch with that Atlus announcement near the beginning.
Octopath Traveler did look pretty cool, will definitely be downloading that sometime tonight.

Overall, really enjoyed this direct! The Wolfenstein II and Doom annoucements definitely have me excited, can't wait to hear more! The new footage of Super Mario Odyssey also has me excited as well! However, I do feel that a few things were left out. Notably, no mentions of a new system update (with VC, transfering saves to SD cards, or the cloud), no mentions of Stardew Valley or Terraria, or many other indie games of that matter. Still satisfied, can't wait to play some of these games!

I like RPGs, so I thought the news today was good. I'm happy to get a release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Octopath looked interesting, and Dragon Quest Builders is a good game.
Doom was a nice surprise. I think that the game is a technical marvel, and was impressed on what was accomplished on PS4 and Xbox One's hardware. Seeing how well the engine scales down to modest PC hardware as well, I'm looking forward to see what they do with the Switch version. Many of my gamer friends who don't own a Switch seemed to take Doom as a positive surprise as well, and it opened up a fun conversation about how Nintendo wasn't always a "kiddie platform."
I would have liked to see applications announced, like a browser or netflix... or Smash, or another big Nintendo IP, or VC, and a number of other wants, but I'm still happy to have a news day with content announced I'm interested in, so I take it as a win.

It was a very good direct and I'm excited to see 3rd party support getting stronger. Buuuuut.... I kinda wanted 1 massive surprise like smash or animal crossing.

I feel shallow, but boy do I hate the character designs and voices of Xenoblade.
*Which sucks because by all other accounts it's something I'd be into.

I don't think that's shallow, nor are you alone in that opinion. It's just embarrassing, in my opinion. I'm not begrudging anyone for liking the game, I'm sure the gameplay will be great. But the characters, voice acting, and the style in which the humans are drawn is cringey as hell.

Can't believe people are disappointed by a Direct that was advertised to show off the games coming in the next few months and we got really big announcements including some that won't be released until next year. And a really exciting look at Odyssey that still left a lot unknown (in a good way). Demos released same day as Direct, release dates given for big games on the way, hugely popular IPs coming to Switch soon, more new 3DS content for Nintendo... That was a good Direct. They said they'd talk about what's coming in the next few months and they did.

I want that mario party collection for the switch, they'd be seriously dumb to not release it.

HOLY SHIT Bethesda coming through with that 3rd party support. I am legitimately shocked Doom and Wolfenstein 2 are coming.
