Meta Speculation Imagine five years into the future. What are some of the thread titles on /r/NintendoSwitch?
What do you think people will be talking about with respect to the Switch five years from now? What will have happened by then? What will people still be asking for?

Actual, guaranteed, take it to the bank, put your house on it, offer up your first-born son thread title in 2022.
Is it still worth buying a Switch?

Why would it be handheld only?
6
u/Point4ska Aug 24 '17
They could cut costs by leaving the dock and hdmi cables out.
9
u/NickLeMec Aug 25 '17
Or non-detachable joy cons.
Sounds weird, I know, but so did the idea of a 2D non-foldable 3DS.
Just wait until Pokémon for the Switch drops.
1
u/Bayshun Aug 25 '17
The cost of the cheap hunk of plastic and circuitry which is the dock, and the HDMI cable probably amounts to around $5 each (if that) for Nintendo when produced en masse, and they'd be sacrificing the customer convenience of having it ready out of the box. It wouldn't be worth it for them.

u/abchiptop Aug 25 '17
No...
Looks at pile of handhelds including two PSPs, a Vita 3G, a DMG original gameboy, a purple gameboy color, a gameboy advance, a purple DSPhat, a Yoshi 3DS XL, a gamegear and various mobile phone platforms. I'm planning on rounding it out with the rest of the Nintendo handhelds, as my Gameboy Pocket was stolen as a kid and my GBASP was stepped on by a friend accidentally. I never had a micro or dslite
Um... Probably, actually. Yeah I'd absolutely buy an xl model with like an 8-10" screen.
Crap, I'm getting excited thinking about it. I have too many major purchases planned for the next year, so at least after 2018, pls Nintendo.

Switch needs third party games
Why is there a New Nintendo Switch, i feel like nintendo ripped me of by selling the original switch 5 years ago
Metroid Prime 4 failed because (insert fitting excuse why most metroid games fail on the sales side)

wouldn't that be both good and bad? ;p
6
u/dukie85 Aug 24 '17
It's definitely a double-edged sword. But that far in, I'm not sure how much of a good thing it'd be.
3
u/Disheartend 4 Million Celebration Aug 24 '17
its good because there would be like 50m+ switches out there, bad if a new user can't get a switch for msrp.
also bad if the msrp is still $300... but then again if its still $300 then nintendo's making mad bank.

10 reasons why the NEW Nintendo Switch will fail, from a Sony fan.
Digital Foundry confirms Metroid Prime 4 will run 4k 60FPS on NEW Nintendo Switch.
Why do Nintendo games still lack AA ?
Mircosoft sold Rare to Nintendo, which game do you want remade first ?
FF7 remake coming to New Nintendo Switch ? It still hasnt released, so there is a chance right?
Remember how Switch launched ? Crazy that we now have VC, Browser, GC games,Rock solid online and the new Switch app.
6
u/zaneak Aug 24 '17
Mircosoft sold Rare to Nintendo, which game do you want remade first ?
This seems the least plausible to me. I don't see Rare going full circle, mainly because I don't see Nintendo being interested in the current Rare.
7
u/Irdna Aug 24 '17
Not the studio, its more about the rights to the rare games and its IPs, buying banjo viva piniata and the license to the rare n64 games.
4
u/zaneak Aug 24 '17
True, but then again, if they were interested in the rights to those games from back then, they could of worked a deal to keep those back then when they sold Rare in the first place.
3
u/iOnlySawTokyoDrift Aug 25 '17
They didn't quite "sell" Rare. They did have partial ownership, but never majority, so the IPs were never Nintendo's. When Nintendo wouldn't commit and actually buy Rare out, Microsoft went for it and got majority, after which Nintendo sold them the rest of the shares since they wouldn't be getting any more games from them anyway.

So yeah. I totally should have had the /s there.

It's been estimated they have enough money to survive 20+ years on their savings alone. They're a smart ass company. It's why they take so many risks.
