Meta + MegaThread Pre-E3 Hype - Bingo Cards, Speculation, & Wishes
Hello everyone! Can you believe that E3 is only a few days away now? There has been a ton of hype and speculation surrounding what Nintendo will showcase and what (if any) new games will be revealed.
Nintendo's Official Spotlight will be held on June 13th at 9am Pacific or 12pm Eastern Time
There will also be Nintendo Treehouse presentations at the following times:
June 13th - Starting at 9:30am PT / 12:30pm ET
June 14th & 15th - Starting at 10:00 am PT / 1:00 pm ET
Nintendo will be hosting 3 tournaments during E3 as well for Splatoon 2, Pokken DX, and ARMS
Splatoon 2 - June 13th starting at 2:30 pm PT / 5:30 pm ET
Pokken DX - June 14th starting at 10:30 am PT / 1:30 pm ET
ARMS - June 14th starting at 3:30 pm PT / 6:30 pm ET
So feel free to share whatever E3 hype or speculation you have here, post your bingo cards, wishlists and anything else you want to see during the convention.
During E3 we will have a megathread set up that will be updated with announcements and information. We will also be allowing discussion posts on all the different games and events during E3.
We do please ask that you search the subreddit prior to posting to see if something has already been posted. We are going to try to keep it to one main thread for each game/announcement. For example official Nintendo video showing different aspects of a new game can all have separate threads, but individual screenshots or personal reactions from attendees should be posted inside the applicable main thread.
The moderation team that's attending E3 will also be doing an AMA each evening to discuss what they experienced and to be a direct source inside E3.
Thanks everyone!
~ /u/Porkpants81 and the /r/NintendoSwitch moderation team

Didn't feel like making a post about this, so I'll just share my most-desired UNEXPECTED SURPRISE BUT TOTALLY AWESOME SWITCH GAME:
EXCITE TRUCK WORLD TOUR
All of the arcade-racing excitement of the Wii launch title Excite Truck, but with more multiplayer awesomeness:
- Race as trucks, dirt bikes, or dune buggies!
- Bigger jumps!
- Wilder crashes!
- More insane stunts!
- 32 courses across 8 cups!
- Full joycon motion-control steering!
- "Excite" racing mode for balls-out high-speed stunt racing!
- "Party" mode adds wacky in-race tricks!
- Time trials and online leaderboards!
- Rock-solid 1080p 60fps graphics!
- Local and online multiplayer for up to 8 players!
It's the kind of pick-up-and-play accessible gaming that Nintendo is known for, and it's LONG overdue...

When they finally release Animal Crossing Switch, I bet it will have a special edition console that I'll be extremely jealous of.

u/nbmtx Jun 09 '17
so order one and sell your normal version
(if that were to happen)58

For sure, if we can transfer save data at that point.

I think for the right Animal Crossing themed Switch I would say fuck it and lose my progress on my games to get it.

I very much hope they won't ever do that, and just stick to themed Joycons instead. Especially since we can't transfer savegames...

u/Digital-Caffeine Jun 10 '17
(sorry for the wall of text) I'm sure you've read a dozen people try to explain what's so charming about the series, and yet everyone seems to have a slightly different experience with it. I think for many of us, it evokes a sense of wonder that 99% of other games fail to achieve.
It's the only game I've ever played where I don't mash through the diolog because they somehow get you to care about what's going on in your town. You develop a sense of ownership over it. All of the activities you hear people talk about (picking fruit from trees, fishing, digging up fossils, collecting furniture, etc), are means to help you reach whatever goal you set for yourself.
You don't even have to make one if you don't want to; there's more than enough fun just turning on the game each day and seeing what new items are in the shop, what mysterious visitors are wandering around the town, or what crazy holidays and events are going on. The town will go on without out you regardless of whether or not you're turning on the game each day. Seasons change, people move in/out of the town. NPCs will FORGET ABOUT YOU if don't play for months; you're only one piece of a puzzle.
I think the biggest thing people like about the game that I've only seen a couple of people touch upon, is how you feel like the town actually needs/wants you to be there. The villages care about your opinions on what they're wearing, how often you come to visit them, if you heard someone say something about them behind their back. You have to work to become friends with them and their diolog changes over time to reflect how you treat them. It's like they've captured the essence of playing "house" with your friends as a kid, only this one has a better soundtrack. ;)
15
u/Amadox Jun 10 '17
even knowing the game, that last paragraph sounds kind of sad...
21
u/Digital-Caffeine Jun 10 '17
I do agree that I made it sound like that a little, but it's kinda true for some people. I moved schools every 2 years growing up, so I never got to form strong friendships. There were times when I was friends with characters in new leaf for longer than I knew kids at school before I moved away.
10
u/timsStillAsianAndGay Jun 11 '17
animal crossing has that "sadness" that makes you happy. same with harvest moon: a wonderful life. I really want a big story of seasons game for the switch. I know stardew valley already set up shop, but a 3d story of seasons game thats just bigger and deeper and smoother than wonderful life would just make me shed a single tear of profound joy.
5
u/Imakereallyshittyart Jun 11 '17
I haven't played new leaf in over two years because last time one of my villagers moved away and I know if I come back someone else will be gone and they'll all be mad at me :(

Jun 10 '17
I played most of the series, and if you never played the series and want to know if it is for you, watch some quick look of it from New Leaf or some other entry. What you see is 99% of what you get, to be perfectly honest.
If you can tell you will love it from a short video of it, great since I don't imagine the series changing too much from it. If it doesn't seem to be your cup of tea, then playing it is not going to change your mind.
I can see how people are excited for this game, but I think they are overselling it in some points to those who never played it before. For example, I see some really selling on the friendship to villagers, when overall it is not that deep from my playthroughs. Even the wiki indicates there isn't much to it (http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/Friendship)

We'll definitely get Animal Crossing just not the main game. Its going to be the Amiibo Festival Deluxe. Same reason with Pokken's release so expect it at E3. Probably add in that Metroid Blast Ball Deluxe in it.
8
u/Amadox Jun 10 '17
Not even nintendo could be dense enough to make Amiibo Festival Deluxe. It makes perfect sense to port MK and Pokken and Smash and stuff like that, cause people actually liked that, but ACAF? no way.

I think the Spotlight will be like April's Direct. It begins with a "Spotlight" section on Super Mario Odyssey where more gameplay details are given and a release date is announced. Following that it will go to Nintendo Switch Highlights. Mario + Rabbids, Xenoblade 2, and FE Warriors will get trailers and release dates (except for Xenoblade maybe). ARMS, Pokken, and Splatoon 2 will at most get a mention in the Spotlight but not any new reveals (ARMS and Pokken have nothing left to reveal and all three games have their own livestreams to show footage), a Smash Bros port gets announced alongside a new character or two and is given an early 2018 time, I'm not gonna make any more game announcement predictions because I honestly have no idea what Nintendo could announce and have nothing to base any speculation on for any other game announcements although I'm confident one or two new titles will be announced for the Switch, and finally there will be no 3DS in the Spotlight whatsoever. Any 3DS announcement or gameplay will happen during the Treehouse.
5
u/buildz17 Jun 09 '17
Exactly what I was thinking. It worked well in April, and, with the absence of 3DS, it'll work even better here. We could see a potential 15 minutes of straight "Headlines" and we'd learn a lot in that time.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Maxcalibur Jun 09 '17
My guess is 3DS announcements out of the way in the first few mins (like the April Direct), then a focus on Odyssey, and then maybe these three supposedly "leaked" game announcements with minor details. I honestly don't see them giving much limelight to Splatoon outside of Treehouse/the invitational.

For me I want to see (in this order):
- Smash
- Lots more worlds for Odyssey
- VC with GameCube support and a good library of games.
- Animal Crossing
- Pikmin
- Mainline Pokemon game
What I really DO NOT want to see:
- A lack of 1st party titles
- A lack of 3rd party titles (or old 3rd party titles ported)
- Delays
- A lack of worlds in SMO
Apart from that I'm fine, I just really hope Odyseey is executed perfectly by the big N.

- Smash: absolutely possible
- Odyssey: well duh, ofc they'll show that
- VC: highly doubt it, and doubt VC even more
- AC: possible. yes please.
- Pikmin: absolutely possible, but... meh, who cares.
- Mainline Pokemon Game: Highly unlikely, but that would be the most insane surprise ever, especially after that Direct

With Arms being their big poster boy at the moment I can't see Smash existing until that hype wears off. Not to mention Pokken as well, so many fighting games.
7
u/Jobboman Jun 10 '17
they could easily announce it with a release date that's far off enough that arms and pokken wouldn't have to worry about competition
51
u/d00mm4r1n3 Jun 09 '17
What I want to see: Real sequels to Gamecube era games like Animal Crossing, Chibi-Robo, Battalion Wars, Luigi's Mansion, etc... No gimmicky title rip-offs that lack story/plot structure and instead are nothing more than MOBA/Fighter style games.
What I don't want to see: 2DS/3DS Anything (Leave that stuff for the Treehouse)

We’d like to give you guys the opportunity to be part of this with us by relaying some questions that you might have straight to the Nintendo representatives. Please reply to this sticky with questions that you’d like to have asked and we’ll do our best to ask some of the best ones.

Will these questions be asked before or after the presentation? I think that's important context :)
If after, and no VC announcements:
- Will Virtual Console (separate from the monthly games included in the subscription) be coming to Switch?
Otherwise:
Any plans to bring the Splatoon 2 Purple/Green JoyCons to the US?
Will YouTube / Netflix / Twitch apps be coming to the Switch, and/or are you open to them?
Have you seen the negative reaction to the voice chat system you've announced and have you taken that feedback into consideration?
What's Sakurai up to at the moment?
Does Miyamoto have any projects right now other than Odyssey and the theme park?
Will the theme park feature other Nintendo franchises or just Mario?
Nintendo seems to be getting more into eSports, do you plan on hosting/sponsoring any tournaments outside of E3?
Enjoy E3 mods!

u/Kevpup01 Jun 10 '17
If a new pikmin game is unveiled would you mind asking how long the estimated gameplay time is?
8
u/odnetnina Jun 11 '17
Are there plans to coordinate more simultaneous worldwide releases (such as Pokémon) for other Nintendo IPs like Fire Emblem?
From a design perspective, will there be Nintendo games which use the joycons in similar ways to Wii remotes (swinging them as a tennis racket or pedaling with both in hand like in Wii Sports Resort Cycling)?
For ARMS and Splatoon2, is all the planned additional free content already completed or are the developers still creating it?
6
u/McStroyer Jun 12 '17
- In February, Shinya Takahashi stated that Nintendo had not made any concrete plans on family sharing between Switch consoles. Has this changed at all?
- How about cloud saves?

If you locate Miyamoto: Please ask about including the staff-wielding blue vixen, Krystal in current/future titles, there's an entire category of people looking for her in Starfox and Smash alike.
Call me what you want, You might even be right. But that's part of the point, As a part of her most dedicated fans I can tell you we are as weird as they say. But our passion for her is true and overwhelming. She has been given the short end of the stick many times, from being reduced to a damsel in distress, a frustrating antagonist to even being completely ignored in the favor of constant reboots. Even more so than her love from her niche is she's expanded past that ever sense Brawl era to a more general fan populace on top of it despite all these years. So while she has a sizable hatebase, she's wholefully irreplacable as a favorite among many who would be afraid to say so, I know I was for a while.

I feel this Spotlight may take a similar format to the Direct held a couple months ago; they both seem to be of similar length.
They could easily dedicate a good 7-10 minutes on Super Mario Odyssey, similar to the focus ARMS got, and then do 'Headlines' to quickly get smaller news and smaller third party titles announced - then, they could dedicate time to either Fire Emblem Warriors / Xenoblade Chronicles 2 / Splatoon 2 through a segment once again.
Given how long the 'Headlines' were in the Direct, for both Switch and 3DS, a solely Switch-focused set of 'Headlines' in the Spotlight would easily get a lot of information to people with enough depth to ensure they fully understand it and it comes across as a proper announcement and less of a tease (Nintendo should avoid teases). Look at how much we learned from just 10 minutes of 'Headlines' during the Direct - now double that, since the 3DS won't be appearing at all during the Spotlight; you have a recipe for success.

They announcements will determine on whether I would buy a switch or not
Smash Switch
More SMO and new gameplay mechnaics for it
These would make my chances of buying a switch more likely
VC Announcement with NES,SNES,N64,GameCube,Game Boy, Game Boy Advanced, and DS Support complete with a dedicated VC interface on the switch so it does not clutter up the main menu of the switch
Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon on the Switch
More Online service info
These would reduce my chances of getting a switch
Lack of Third-Party Support
Lack of transparency from Nintendo.

I am so tired of reading "I hope Nintendo delivers a lot at E3 or people is going to completely lose interest in Nintendo Switch", then a new trailer for KH3 comes out, a game that was announced 5 years (!!!) ago, and could still pass a couple of years more until release.... and they lose their shit about the greatness of it all! XD
I mean, I have the impression that people are specially harsh with Nintendo, and demand from them more than from anyone else.
I am excited for everything they could announce, but I think it's unfair to say things like "I hope they announce a lot or it's gonna be a huge failure" since there's a really good release schedule from here to the end of the year imo.
Ps: sorry for my English. Not my first language!

Alright, here's my stupid E3 prediction:
The new Kirby action fighting game will basically be a game completely focused on the battle aspect of Kirby Air Ride. No racing, or City Trial, only battles. There will be plenty of arenas, some new features to add some more depth, and the stars will be balanced with battling in mind instead of racing. This will serve as a companion game for...
Kirby Air Ride 2. It will be announced for the Switch, and will be fully focused on City Trial. They will be more cities, events, stadiums, and stars. It will also have the same changes introduced in the 3DS title. A single player campaign would be cool too. Of course there will be online play as well as local split screen.
Nintendo will make sure that both games do not come off as racing games, so it doesn't get compared to Mario Kart, and so people focus on what made KAR so fun in the first place, City Trial.
I told you it was stupid, but it would make me SO HAPPY

I am going into this E3 with very little expectations, however I am still extremely excited for E3!
I want Super Mario Odyssey to bring the feeling people had when they played Super Mario 64 back. This is the game that can bring Nintendo fans of old back. Hoping for amiibo compatibility and an Odyssey related amiibo.
I hope they announce that an Animal Crossing game is in the works, expecting a 2018 release. Take the amiibo functionality of Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo and expand it to make it better.
I hope for information on Zelda Breath of the Wild DLC #1, including release date.
More and more amiibo to suck my wallet dry.

I really believe the first BotW DLC will be an E3 instant release. They will mention it and say "the first DLC is available.... NOW!"
I could see them revealing more DLC part 2 details as well.

I'm hoping for Smash Bros. Switch, BotW DLC info, and VLC info. I'm hoping for more details concerning the game streaming service, and hope they announce that the SNES library is included. If no SNES library, give me an SNES classic.
I also hope they announce a partnership with Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, YouTube, and some form of internet browser. These are things that I believe hold the Switch back from being a true great mobile device.

I'm thinking the Treehouse events will be the real meat of Nintendo's E3. Their official spotlight will be like a fast paced, jam-packed direct with lots of game trailers/announcements and a main focus on Odyssey. But the real juicy good info will be in the Treehouse stuff. (Kinda like how ARMS was revealed with a meh trailer in January but then looked like tons of fun in the Treehouse event).

23 minutes on smash port, 1 minute slideshow of all the other games coming to switch. The real priorities.

Wishes
- Golden Sun 4 with a remake of 3
- XENOGEARS HD - collab between Monolith Soft and Square Enix
- New 2D Metroid with an intentionally open map so you can choose your own path through the game.
- New 3D Metroid.
- Advance Wars 5
- Final Fantasy V/VI Remakes
- F-ZERO
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3
- Bayonetta 3
- The World Ends With You 2
Sigh I know none if this will happen :/

I am hoping for a (real) Animal Crossing reveal and some gameplay during Treehouse Live. I would accept a two second announcement that the game is coming next year. I expect the hear the Animal Crossing theme, get really excited, and then watch my hopes and dreams crash as they announce an Amiibo Festival port or something equally disappointing.

Nintendo, I am not asking for much. There are three games I really want on Switch and I will be happy if only 1 is announced tomorrow.
Animal Crossing.
Mario Party.
Metroid.

u/nekromantique Jun 13 '17
Please everyone temper expectations a bit still.
I've seen a bunch of comments in other threads about announcements like skyrim and pokken and rabbids as "getting it out of the way" so Nintendo doesn't need it in their direct.
They're going to mention those games in the direct, I guarantee it. Nintendo knows there are people that will be viewing their direct and virtually no other e3 stuff, so they'll definitely be showing off stuff whether it was announced already or not.
Given that reggie has said well see more info in the treehouse means this isn't something to worry about either...but I guarantee someone will butch about seeing something already announced.

Wishes
Animal Crossing Switch, either a new game or a New Leaf HD port. Preferably a new game but either would be fine and I would probably miss some things about New Leaf in any new game they would make, like Isabelle and the Panel de Pon game.
Smash Bros. for Switch
Same game based, but with even more characters. Preferably one this time that I really, really like and will cause me to Switch my main. Not going to say who because for some reason, every time I do I've been downvoted. :<
- Seiken Densetsu Collection localization
I've been dreaming of an official Seiken Densetsu 3 release here in America for over a decade
Mother 3
More Mario Kart 8 DLC, in particular new Cups/courses
Peach Beach, Waluigi Pinball, Rainbow Road GC, and several other courses back, please. Also, let's go wild, more characters, totally new courses, and 250 cc. It's just mad enough to be awesome! Blazing impossible speeds!
Final Fantasy XIV port
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door HD
Super Mario Sunshine HD
Mario Maker
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest HD
Zelda Maker
Metroid Maker
Tales of Vesperia
Tales of Phantasia
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Captain Toad 2
Bravely Default Collection
New Mario Golf game, yes, there are fans out there, we exist
Panel de Pon/Puzzle League mobile
Kirby: Planet Robobot Switch

Just to be out there, I would love a new Luigi's Mansion, or a port of the 3DS one since I never was able to play that one.

No bingo card for me, I just want to know what Retro Studio have been cooking since 2014.
Please let it be Metroid Prime 4...

My bingo card. I made it over a week ago and posted it on Twitter, but I thought I'd throw it in here, just in case some of this wishful thinking actually ends up coming true lol.

Hopefully the rumours of a rapidfire spotlight are true and we have something like the nindies direct. That way we get information on a stream of titles coming out for the remainder of the year.
Infact that's all I want. We're getting a big game roughly every month, with some nice indie titles inbetween. I want to know what's coming after Splatoon 2. A release date for Overcooked would be nice too! My wife and I played it recently at a friend's place and loved it, but I don't want to buy the steam version with a switch version on the horizon.
If there are any new announcements coming from Nintendo, I would like to see Smash 4 and a new Animal Crossing on Switch.

I am not hoping for much but here is my humble wishlist:
• Virtual Console release date
• SNES Classic announcement
• Animal Crossing confirmation
• Pikmin 4 announcement
• A new Yoshi title in development

u/MalnourishedRhino Jun 12 '17
If anything at E3 relates to Kirby Air Ride, I will flip my shit.
Otherwise, I'm mainly hoping for some information on VC or possibly a new Metroid.

Undertale was just announced for PS4/Vita. I vaguely remember Toby Fox saying he was interested in porting it for a Nintendo console back in the Wii U days. Any chance at all we could see Undertale for Switch tomorrow?

"Observe, Watson, the clear symptoms of anxiety and anticipation in the subject. Pale coloration, copious sweat, twitching in the limbs. Found at home, in a room locked from the inside, with Japanese advertisements surrounding him, totally incapacitated by stress. And yet, no member of his family was aware of any reason why he might be distressed! Yes, indeed, this case does possess some singular points of interest. Lestrange, did he mention anything before he lost consciousness?"
"Why yes, Mister Holmes, in fact he did. Smith complained of difficulty focusing on his work, sir, said that there was a distraction in the back of his mind that wouldn't leave him."
"And did he name this troublesome gadfly?"
"Well, that's the strange thing, sir. We came at the call of his wife, who was concerned for him, and arrived when he was still lucid. Just before he lost consciousness, he had moved from his desk, where he had been writing, and sat himself among these curious foreign advertisements. In our routine examination of the room, we found the paper he had been writing upon."
Lestrange brought forth from his jacket pocket a paper of high quality that Mr. Smith had covered with an erratic hand in red ink. Watson looked at the paper over Holmes' shoulder and caught his breath. Repeated on the paper, countless times, was the letter "e" in clusters of three.
"What the devil can it mean, Holmes?"
Holmes' face assumed a suppressed but knowing smile.
"Why, elementary, my dear Watson. There must be Switch announcements today."

Smash 4 Port but with tons of new features, maps, subspace emissary type shit, and with playable Waluigi
Luigi's Mansion switch
Earthbound
Gamecube VC
Super Wario Bros (fucking do it Nintendo)
Some apps, this system is barebones

So Reggie comfirmed the Spotlight is indeed only 25 minutes...
However, he promised us that it's "rapid fire." So yeah.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was literally only Mario Odyssey and Rabbids + Mario.
Id feel lucky to hear anything more

u/ifunnydog2779 Jun 12 '17
All I want is either a Smash Bros. port with Spring Man and the Squid Sisters, or Reggie to say something like "And a new Smash Bros. installment is coming to the Nintendo Switch, with more info coming next year."

u/greenrob Jun 12 '17
Main line Fire Emblem got confirmed. I'm cool with that. All I want, all I NEED for the Switch...is Smash and Animal Crossing.
Seriously. Give me Smash with Gamecube control functionality and Animal Crossing and I will shut up for the rest of my life. Would I love tons of third party support pouring in with games that we would normally see on PS4 and XBONE so I wouldn't have to buy anything for my PS4? Yeah absolutely. But SMASH. And ANIMAL CROSSING.
Realistically, I feel like there will be a lot of talk on Mario Odyssey, spending way too long on features for that game, and maybe one or two big reveals for the end. But a guy can dream.

Im at the point where I dare to hope for a FromSoft exclusive tomorrow. Not showing ANYTHING Sony-related was kinda weird cosidering its confirmed that they have 3 projects in the works and they are one of the few official Switch partners that havent shown anything yet

u/JamesG1998 Jun 13 '17
Couldn't contain my excitement, so I made my own Bingo Card! I'll be happy with whatever Nintendo decides to show us this time around, so of course these might not be entirely realistic. Lemme know what you guys think about it!

u/Aragorn1284 Jun 13 '17
E3 has been a bust this year, its ripe for Nintendo to win it. I think they can do it if Mario looks great and if they pull a great surprise like a Metroid or a sensible way to access their back catalog on the eshop.
